Welcome to TBCS.

If you're new to modding, I'd suggest checking your local Craigslist in the free section. People often give away old p1, p2, and p3 machines pretty often...

Check around the forums in project logs and the tutorial sections for great ideas and tips.

Hey BurningGreen.

A good idea is to get a practice case, and practice cutting, painting, and all that fun stuff. That way, you don't mess up a perfectly good case right away. I'd suggest looking around TigerDirect or Newegg for a case under $15. That way, you don't end up investing much.

After you get the hang of it, any case is up for grabs. Just find one with good features that looks nice, and mod to your hearts content.

Also, if the Craigslist deal falls through or something look in the phonebook or on the web and find some local pc repair shops. They normally have a few lying around and will just give them to you. If you ask them and they say no, go find their dumpster. You can usually find a few that way. I just picked up a descent one a few days ago from dumpster diving.
