Does anyone have any experience with Matrix Orbital or Crystalfontz LCD displays? I am considering using one and I want to hear the good, the bad and ugly...:?

How hard / easy is it to get them to display cuastom screens??

They are way overpriced i know that much. If you can solder and are willing to do a bit of work just put HD44780 into ebay and you can pick up a screen easily. I can find a tut if you're interested.
As for software: my homebrewed screen uses LCDsmartie and that can be configured to do just about anything. Dont have a clue what matrix orbital give you.

Again if youre interested in the homebrew version let me know

It's cheaper to buy an older pda/palm and use lcdsmartie then to buy a single lcd. Of course its not going to look as good, but it will still do the job at around $20

I am probabbly going to get a Crystalfontz 635. Because my case is a TT Kandalf LCS with doors (and a rad) over the front bays I want to flush mount it into the top of the case about 3 or 4 inches from the front.

When I started this project all wanted was a new, decent pc. Then I wanted a faster pc. Then I thought a few lights might be nice, ohh water cooling ... mmmm...then maybe some sleeving...I got it! How about a LCD, no wait...I will cut a hole in the top of my new $300 case to custom mount the LCD...WHERE DOES IT END! Somebody save me from myself!

ya no kidding, combined with my pack-rat-ness i look at everything for electronics. i was mulching the leaves and saw a shoe in a tree and the first thing i thought was "i wonder if there are any LED's in there..." sure enough there was, thanks Barbie!
