I have been helping a fellow member with a question. How would he go about wiring up individual LEDs to individual HDs? So, if he had 2 leds, 1 LED would blink when 1 HD is working and the other LED would blink when the other HD is working. I know before there were HD activity pins on the MB they were on HDs but not anymore. I have seen a mod using the IDE cable but I havent seen it done on SATA unless you use a sata card that has the pins built in. I know he would probably need to create a controller running from the serial port but I can not find any info online. I am curious as well so I figured I would ask.

Ive never heard of this being done with SATA but with IDE you just connect the LED into pin 39 (i think) of the ribbon cable

I have read the tutorial on that as well. I havent found anything for sata yet. I guess you may have to buy individual Sata controller PCI cards with the connectors built in and hook up one HD to each and run an LED off of the controller. That is the only way i have found so far.

Somtehing like this would work. It has the pins to connect 2 LEDs to the board so you can view the HDs activity separately.

There are more on Newegg like this one. Some have 4 sata connectors , some are Sata II, etc. This was just the cheapest one i found.

A software solution may be possible. It looks like these guys have done it:

I actually did download and try that but, thats not exactly what the other member was looking for. They want a few more LEDs on the case it self I believe.

+ rep for the find
