Hello everyone, I'm new to this forums and modding in general. I'm here because I've decided to stop buying complete computers and id rather have one i can upgrade as i see fit. but while I'm doing that, i feel i want a completely unique computer and i have a very solid idea of what it is i want to create.
There are some problems with some of the functions i want it to have and i hope some of you here can give me some answers.

first off, i want to have red lights around the front piece, with a slightly stronger white fading light illuminating them from behind making them appear orange. The little problem i have is with the fading of the light, is that something easy to do? and more importantly, could i buy it somewhere?

the second thing. A while back someone modified a playstation1 into a handheld console, during the whole psp craze, it looked pretty cool (and the cd's where not covered on the back of it). one thing he did that I'm very interested in doing was that he designed his plastic casing with CAD and had it produced by some company, does anyone have any experience with that? and if so what companies are doing this?

I'm really going to do the planning very carefully. since i work as a 3D animator I'm going to model it in Maya first so i can play around with the proportions and the design to make it just right, the next step after that would be making a cad-model for the plastic parts i want if that's a good way to go.

thanks for reading, i hope i can get some good answers here :)

with the light thing It would be easiest to build the circuit yourself, I can dig you up a diagram if your willin to do a bit of soldering.
With the plastic thing you would need to find somewhere with a cnc mill to do that.
And welcome to TBCS!!

yes indeed calumc +rep!

and to find local cnc/mill/machine shops near you go to google maps and select business. then put in you address and put in mill shop or machine shop and it should show you the closest places.

thank you :)

i will definitely be doing a detailed work-log once I've gathered the info and parts i will need. my case need to be very precisely put together to look right, so i need to plan it thoroughly, and that will take some time :)

@Spawn-Inc: thanks, i will definitely look into it :)

You do realize, don't you that red + white does not equal Orange?:?

I am pretty sure white + red equals pink.

Yellow + red equals orange!

haha... wow... yeah your right... maybe a very red orange color would get less orange with white.
thats for pointing that out, ill add it to my list of problems :)

Maybe use yellow leds instead of white?
