I am going to buld an enclosure for one and just need to know if they need any ventilation.
Id prefer to have it sealed but I can put a small vent in it if need be.
BTW heat wont be a huge issue because it will only be recieveing occasional use

I would add a vent to it just to be safe.

what is the case/enclosure going to be made out of? if its metal, i wouldn't worry about heat. if its Styrofoam then i would. and if it's only going to be used occasionally then i don't think i would worry. though it depends on how much heat they put out. i'm thinking not alot since there are smaller and undoubtedly single platter'ed.

its 1.5mm plexi. so im thinking it should be ok

Plexi will insulate the heat. I'd probably make at least one side out of metal just to help it dissipate the heat easier. The plexi you are using is pretty thin though and it might not be an issue.

i would say try without ventilation then if temps become a problem drill some holes in one side or do what xpirate said and make one side metal.

i'm not sure if laptop hdd's have sensors but if they do you can use speed fan to watch them. sorry if you know that already, just thought i would say it.

I have pics of the start but then none until I have the first coat of bondo on.
I'll put up a bit of a worklog whenever I get time to do more on it. Could be a while though, no time during the week and I've got WRC to go to next weekend!

Right, I did a bit of burning in with it tonight: copied 20gb of music to it, and the heat doesnt seem to be a huge issue.
Whenever I get around to sanding and painting it i'll post pics
