My RAM is dead... It's been hanging at the shutdown screen and did that whole "multiple long beeps" deal until I popped out a stick... then it booted right up.

I'm almost positive I read that newegg only gives refunds and does not do exchanges? If so, how long does it take for them to get your money to you? I'm thinking if I just wanna go ahead and buy some RAM now so I don't have to be out of a computer for as long.

EDIT:: I just noticed there's a 15% restocking fee?! Excuse me!? To restock what? bad ram?! **** that!! Why should I have to pay them 20 bucks... + the shipping to send it in for faulty hardware?!

First, how long have you had it? If its been a 30 days or less they will give you a refund if you WANT or an exchange. If it has been 90 days or less they will give you an exchange. Dont get angry if it been longer then 90 days, they tell you all of that stuff when you buy it. Otherwise, you have to go through the manufacture if its in the limit for them. Newegg is a good company and there is no reason to get upset. Call them tomorrow and talk with someone. They will probably ship out a new stick and a return sticker for the other one of course they may want a credit card for that for "insurance" on thier end. They did that for me and i didnt have to pay shipping. Be polite, it gets you a lot farther then you may think.

Under the RMA section on newegg's site it says

"According to our records, this item is still covered by the product manufacturer's parts warranty.
According to our records, this item is still covered by the product manufacturer's labor warranty.
This item is still eligible for replacement."

So I wonder if the 90 days doesn't apply? The RAM was purchased 6/15/07 but the other stuff says specifically to contact the manufacturer and doesn't have a clickable box next to it?

just as danthegeek said, call them. dont complain here, actually call them.
Newegg has amazing customer service. last year I had a PSU that went bad, but because I was still living in dorms then, I had to throw out all the packaging for space. Newegg says that all packaging must be with the product for you to return it, but I still asked them, and they told me that because of my situation, to just ship it out in another box, and make sure all the actual components are there.
they will almost always find a way for you to get your device returned or fixed or whatever, if they cant do it themselves, they'll even help you with contacting the manufacturer.
so please, stop bitching here, and just contact them already.

Typically a restocking fee only applies to returns that are not faulty. :)

It's all good Greco.. stay positive, and things will work out. :)

Moojoe, I'm not "bitching here" I'm asking a question of how long the process takes so I know if I should just wait for them to send another set of RAM or just go ahead and buy another set. The whole idea is which route to take that gets me my computer back asap but I don't wanna buy new RAM and have them send another set.

The bottom half of my post was just a small rant. Deal with it and stop being a prick for no ****ing reason...

Anyways, thanks Luke and Dan for the helpful posts. +Rep
