I wrote this at another site and decided to post it here too. Lemme know what you guys think of it.

----------------------------------------------------------

I picked up that game today and must say it kicks ass.

Let's start with what you see first: The Installer

It was just like any other but not quite as tricked out. It was nice, simple, and easy to use.

Now for the menu:

It's nice and plain yet quite futuristic looking. In the system settings menu (I believe it is that one) you can change the color scheme for your in-game HUD and the menu. The color choices are green, amber, icy blue, and white. I personally prefer the green (duh, lol). The various menus are quite coordinated and easy to figure out with little effort.

Graphics:

Flat out beautiful, but this is a difficult game to run if you have low end hardware. I had to overclock my Pentium D to 3.2GHz just to run it on medium with my 8500GT. It even looks good at medium, although I don't recommend low as everything looks very blurry and bland. My one complaint would be that you have to be using Vista to get the settings on very high even though you can go into the .config files and do a little swapping if you know what your doing so you can see the maximum settings.

Gameplay:

It's pretty easy to figure out how to play the game. If you have previous experience playing FPS games you will know the basic controls and it doesn't take much to figure out how to modify your weapon or change armor modes.

For the gun you can add various scopes or a flashlight to any of them and with a few you can add a silencer and tranquilizer dart launcher (which I haven't used much yet... it's somewhat difficult). For the handgun you can attach a silencer and a laser pointer/flashlight.

The armor has four modes: Armor, Speed, Strength, and Stealth. Armor mode absorbs more damage and regenerates your health faster. Speed mode makes you move and reload faster along with short bursts of really fast speed (we're talking about 40mph from my estimate). Strength mode lets you throw things farther, punch harder, and jump a lot higher. Stealth mode makes you almost invisible for a little while. It runs out more quickly the faster you move.

The AI is pretty intelligent and made to be life like. They yell obscenities at you while trying to kill you along with other things, such as taking a piss (I actually saw a guy do this... quite funny in my opinion) or talking to each other. It's nice being able to run around and not have people that always know where you are shooting at you.

The weapons are pretty good. I've encountered a few so far, such as the pistol (if you find another you get to dual wield), the SCAR, the FYI (10 less rounds per clip and less accurate than the SCAR), the sniper (really loud, slow rate of fire, one hit kill), the shotgun (awesome at close quarters), and the rocket launcher (holds three rockets and is unable to be reloaded). They're all quite balanced and straightforward to use.

I have only encountered the Koreans so far and no Aliens (even though you see them quite a bit) and don't have anything to write about the Aliens. I'll write about them later on.

The interactiveness of the environment makes the game really fun. If you shoot at the smaller to medium sized trees they break and fall over. Most of the buildings are destructible and you can pick up almost everything and throw it. Vehicles have certain weakspots (such as the gas can on the back of the hummer) and the tires blow out when shot. You can also go faster with vehicles by holding down the same button set for running on foot (the Shift key in most cases).

System Requirements:

It's a very demanding game. I have the following specs and can run it a little over medium with a little overclocking on the video card:

Pentium D running at 3.2GHz
1GB DDR2 800 RAM
250GB SATA II HDD
MSI 8500GT 256MB (512MB Shared) OC'd (550MHz core and 575MHz RAM from 459MHz and 400MHz respectively)

I have everything on medium except for the physics and sound (both are on high) at 1024x768 for the resolution. I'm estimating that I get about 20-30fps most of the time.

I personally recommend to try out the demo to this game to see if you like it if you still aren't too sure after reading this review. The demo is just about as good as the full version of the game only not as refined (still pretty dang good though) and you can only get about an hour or so worth the play time out of it.

I have yet to try out the multiplayer. I'll write about that later on after I beat the single player.

From what I see so far, I rate this game a 9.9/10 because it is a great game, but they could've allowed you to set the game to very high without buying Vista or editing vital game files.

to be honest i didn't read through it all but it looks really nice from what i skimmed through. +rep.

D'oh Bob Saget! Yeah... me and my dyslexic self must've not seen that section (I find most things through the new posts thingy)... I'll go ahead and PM a mod. AND I know for next time, hahaha.

Thanks for the +rep dude.

Sweet! Gives it a more professional look too... I should tone the review up a little bit more one day and maybe add a multiplayer section after I do some more online gaming. All the more excuse to play games. ^_^ lol

also, some screen shots might be nice :D

In all it's medium graphics setting glory. Alright, I'll see if I can do a basic Print Screen thing tomorrow. I'm almost at the aliens so we'll see what happens. This game just keeps on going.

i'm going to test out fraps and see what kind of screen shots that gets me, otherwise print screen works.

heres a shot of a tree that went weird when i shot it :)

Wow, lol. Oh, in the demo at least, if you shoot a palm tree (don't break it all the way) and then shoot off a section up top and then shoot where you previously shot (still with me?) you get a glitched piece. I got killed by those a few times, lol. The guns in this game are hella fun... right now I really like the gauss rifle, sniper, and the SMG. I'm getting quite proficient. FINALLY! A game I kick ass at! Hell, in multiplayer I sniped a guy from 1500+ft with the precision rifle and no scope. TAC Nuke me now biatch! lol

I'll take some screenies tomorrow, I think I'm done for the night.

Sadly, I won't be adding screenshots any time soon. My video card is borked. I need to RMA it if possible and see if I can't get a replacement. I haven't even beaten the game yet! lol I'm where you're helping Prophet out. The zero-g part is my favorite though. That was fun. I wonder how hard that would be to do to my bedroom...

i shot a guy from 1000foot with just a pistol :p no idea how it happened, as i struggle to kill people easily with a assault scope on a FY17

I like the snipers. I slap on the laser sight and just point and shoot. The SMG is fun too. I don't like the ARs too much. They're too... annoying to use. Like an SMG but not as fast at shooting and like a sniper but you have to do a headshot for a 1 hit kill.

I hope I get that 8500 replaced... I feel like a part of me died. If I don't then I'll just break out some old games for LAN action (hopefully).

Is there a zero G multiplayer map? I hope so because that was my favorite part. Other than that... multiplayer is stupid. People dance all over and that's their tactic to not die. How dumb is that? The BF series is dumb because everyone's a sniper with all their infinite health upgrades and crap unlocked already. I know there's no infinite health... but yeah...

:p

I would take some more for you but I finished single player, hated multiplayer so have uninstalled it for now.

Ahh, alright. I hated multiplayer too... who wants to shoot at Jumpy the 8 year old clown? I mean, come on... your strategy is really just strafing back and forth really fast? Lame. I'll go shoot someone else (in the game, that is) thankee much, lol. I still haven't beaten it... about how much more is there after you help out that one guy in the ice? (Being vague for those that haven't beaten it yet)

Oh, lol. I didn't see the settings. No contacts in yet = kind of blind, heh heh.

Totally agree RE: online play, I don't see why people cant just play a game the way it is meant to be played. Though TBH its all EA's fault yet again for allowing the game to let people use those tactics.

After you help the dude in the ice there are about 2 more levels before the finale.

Sweet. I might play through the campaign once again after I beat it and have a new CPU.

I think that part of the problem is that there are a lot of kids 'round here (in America) that get whatever they want without working for it... I worked for the money for my PC. I hate how EA has their name on this game. Seriously. That is my one other turnoff besides the Very High graphics issue (needing Vista or to modify some files). I tried BF2 and I always got sniped... it's just kind of lame. I love multiplayer if people play it with more skill and tact than by being a stupid rabid squirrel that's hopped up on caffeine. IDEA!: We should start a server and punt people that use those tactics, lol. Have a server for people with strategy and not almost broken "a" and "d" keys.

I always got on best with BF2142. My old clan had a server (24 player). I must have spent well over 500 hours on that game and loved every minute of it. Yeah there were alot of idiots around but they were nothing the ban button couldn't fix.

Had to put a stop to serious gaming though, priorities changed. I was hoping Crysis would be at least 'ok' online as the Power Struggle game mode looked like such a good idea, but alas it wasn't meant to be.

But on a positive note Crysis is by far and above the best single player game I have ever played. I could not bring myself to turn it off until I had completed it, that for me makes it truley great game.

Same here. I'm betting it's gonna be GotY. I'd just give the multiplayer a month or so and try it out again... it might improve.

I couldn't stop playing it either. It was so fun and I'm really missing it right now... stupid 8500GT, lol.

I noticed. Thanks dude. I'm happy with this review... it came out a lot better than I thought it would've.

@ Ryoken: If you've OC'd the card at all (which I think you did, right?) I don't think you can RMA it, since OC'ing voids warranties. Who knows though, maybe you can. That would be sweet.

I've always wondered, how can they tell if you overclocked it when you return one? Not that I'm encouraging decieving vendors, but it's just crossed my mind a few times that I wouldn't know how they could tell.

xRyokenx
11-23-2007, 02:48 PM
I've been wondering that too. I hate lying and all but I'm freakin' poor and nobody's hiring me for reasons that are beyond my knowledge. Just like my wondering as to why people act as though they hate me (such as my parents)... god...

I'll just not mention it. Or whatever. If I can't then I'll just blow off next semester's college funds for a new ATI card or something. We shall see. I'm hating school anyway. My writing instructor has it out for me. He seems really pissed off by me.

Oh yeah, another thing. Everyone says to me: "Everyone has problems." Yeah? And? You assholes just going to let everyone sit in giant pools of **** and just slowly drown in them? You're all gonna sit there? Okay then, screw you, stop pulling me back in, and I'm finding a way out. Jerks.

They need to make more games online that are first person but have somewhat-RTS gameplay, such as you shoot and stuff in first person, but need to hold points to make supplies to make buildings to make weapons and vehicles. if someone could pull that off really well, then i would love them and buy that game.

Make a single commander voted in by the people at the beginning (like in BF2 only the game doesn't start until the commander is voted in) and then they have tell the troops where to go, and they get to decide where to build and what to build. The bots do the dirty work (such as building and manning auto-turrets) while the grunts in battle do the fighting for control points that can make raw supplies.

There could be weapon upgrades you could build, you could build vehicles for the troops to use, and you could build weapons to call in.

The goal would be to destroy the other team off the face off the map.

I'm seeing Team fortress 2-like graphics with BF2/counterstrike source gameplay. Maybe some actually realistic vehicle physics and crysis-caliber explosions/overall physics. Realistic gameplay with TF2 graphics, that would be awesome.

It would be a mix of awesome. In fact, that could be the name.

It's so beautiful! I played the demo and it almost fried my card! 7900GT... granted I wasn't skimping on the detail either...

I'm sorry that I could not have posted in time, but DID ANYONE take advantage of the DELL sale on MSI 8800GT's? $207 each!!! I got two.

Here is another sale:
