Call of Duty 4 : Modern Warfare (PC)(SINGLEPLAYER)
9/10
I would say this is a very good modern warfare game. Definite Replayability. Activision and Infinity ward have done it again with this next installement of the popular franchise series Call of Duty. Call of Duty plays you on two sides. The elite British SAS and the United States Marine Core. The story is of course pretty...cliche. the whole "terrorists have a nuclear device and want to destroy America." storyline. Don't get me wrong it was written and presented VERY well. With each character you come in to intimate contact with, you develop a sense of "Realness". You connect with him. So you feel his anger, or you feel his pain. It's very cool that the developers were able to get that down pretty well.
Controls are...ok. You can tell it was meant for a Console. *Cough* Xbox. I'm really disapointed that game developers haven't figured out howto make PC "feels" and Console "feels" at the same time. I figure, if it's for PC, it should have a PC feel. Not a Console feel. Adjusting the controls to something completly custom helped out a bit. For example, any PC gamer will be able to tell you that mousewheels change your weapons. Pressing the 1-9 keys was strictly for certain circumstances. Call of Duty 4 does not have mousewheel functionality by default and when you change it in the custom controls, you can only select either mousewheel up or down. Kinda bothersome. Another quick example is the M203 grenade launcher. The M203 is an attachement for standard military assualt rifles. To switch to your Grenade launcher, you have to press the number 5 (By Default.). Still bothersome :/. I have played COD4 for Xbox 360 aswell and the controls feel much "Tighter". You might have to deal with some button changes with the PC versions.
Graphics are pretty amazing. Crisp and clean all around. Nothing really more to say. Very good looking game.
Excellent voice acting and sounds really put you into the fight. Friendly AI screamed the correct locations of enemy when in sight. No broken voices. Lipsync was VERY well done. Much like graphics, not much to say except very good.
I really think that anyone that enjoys a good FPS should purchase this game. Great story, Great Graphics, Great sound, and Good "Feel" really make this game worth getting and playing more then once.

How is the duration of the game?
I bought MOH Airborne, LOVE the game, but SP was WAAAAYYY! too short.
This game is on my list, but I really want to know how long the SP part is.

The length of the game is probably...5-6 hours worth. It definitally wasn't short at all.
Although if your playing on "Greenhorn" youll fly through it.
At the beginning of the game, it puts you through a test to see what your difficulty rating should be at. (Pretty innovative)

what a stupid piece of *** ****! what the hell is the point of a game when the computer kills the computer. i like to explore the worlds a bit in any game and with this if you lag behind at all your teammates go kill all the enemies. on teh ship we finally get to a relatively big firefight and the ****ing chopper comes it and blasts them all with a .50 cal, WTF??? once we get into the second part of the ship i'm trying to get ahead and your dam teammates won't friggin move, i got pissed and shot them
the really bad thing about all this stupid AI crap is that i really like the guns and feel of the game, there nicely done. there is no selection for attachments, like in crysis, which is annoying but livable. i loved the first part, the weapons training and such.
is there anyway to make your teammates stupid or will that effect the enemies as well?

Play it on a harder setting, makes it a lot more fun. I got CoD2 for Christmas last year and cranked it to the highest difficulty straight off, finished it on boxing day :D.
It's not that the AI are stupid, it's just they are programed to do something when you do something. You destroy a target and they will instinctively move in to clean up the remaining enemies, It's just what they do. I know it can get annoying but personally I love the feel of the game and I have only played the demo lol.

i gave it a second shot and it wasn't as bad but the ai completely ignore you, they waited for me one time when i was sniping, as told to do, 5-10 minutes go by and there are still enemies. i turn around and no ones there, they left and continued on.
i really liked everything else about the game, accept crysis has made the graphics for COD4 not very impressive, its just one big piss of, thankfully this is just a friends copy, time to uninstall this crap and get to the real game, crysis!

5-6 hours is a pretty short game these days, I really dislike playing a game where I can beat it on a weekend casually playing, I'd rather just rent the console version in this case.

Yeah, 5-6 hours is a very short game. The Half Life 2 Episodes were about that long, and they were 1/3 of a game each. I mean, if RE4 can be 24hrs+ then any game should be able to be at least 10hrs.
(And I remember complaints about Condemned: CO because it was only 8hrs.)

ya the fastest time i got for re4, not really trying for speed was 22 hours.
if you want a long game go for a rpg, like final fantasy i'm playing XII right now and i've racked up 70 hours and i'm about 1/2 to 2/3 done. i spent alot of time leveling up though, according to where the guide says i'm about 10 higher.

One HL2 episode is 1/4th the total game. You get HL2 (which is actually a decent length), then three eps.
Thank god, my dad bought CoD4 on Steam. We share a steam account. He also go the orange box so I can enjoy HL2: EP1 and EP2, as well as TF2.
I'll let you all know what I think of CoD4 once I play it.

I must say the SP is pretty short.. I ended up starting and finishing it in doses on Saturday :( .. But I must say it really is fun to play. Once you finish it, it unlocks an "Arcade" mode, its still the same game but you play for points, and you get X amount of lives. Which has drawn me to play again. There is one mission that isn't particularly hard, but I had a blast with it. Its titled "Death from Above". Those that have played should know what I am talking about. I hope the multiplayer makes it worth the money spent.

I just played through the first two levels on SP and started the third before my computer locked up. Locking up aside, It's amazing, and I'll write a review once I finish it.

I need some pointers on the Ghillie Suit level. Me and that Cpt. go into the big field where the apc's and soldiers are walking around, yet no matter where I go, they always find us. Any tips on where I should be?

is it the part where you have to "lay low and don't move?"
or the part where theyre dumping the dead bodies?
If its the latter of the two. You have to pick off the walking scouts really fast, then pick off the body dumpers real fast aswell. we're talking 1 second between each killing, so keep a steady aim.
If its the "Lay low part", what I did was hug the cpts rearend. lol. That seemed to work for me.

How're the strategies of the other players? If there isn't any hopping or any unrealistic bullcrap I might look into it.

It's mostly pretty good. People will hide behind corners and kill you, 'nade buildings to clear them, snipe well, etc. It's a lot of fun, even if at first the difficulty is like running headlong into a wall. But once you get a good gun (you can make your own "class" btw) you can start having some honest to god, realistic shooter, down-to-earth fun

Sweet. It's too bad Crysis wasn't like that. One of those instances where having your own server and clan are a good thing. When I get a new video card I'll look into that.

I think half the reason i love this game so much is because it is short.
With a lot of FPS games, they just get tiresome after a while, and there are quite a few i never even got around to finishing, But cod4 is just the right length for you to be able to play through and be left wanting more, which i think is a brilliant tactic. i dont know about you guys, but with a lot of fps games i have found myself relieved that its finally over, but with cod4 i wanted more, so i played it again!
Although for the length of game play the pricetag is pretty high.

ya, i think thats why i still haven't finished crysis. though with resident evil 4 i played it at least 15 times (start to end, on gamecube, ps2, wii) (about 20 hours the first couple of times then maybe 15 after) for the unlockables as it is such a wicked game.
