Setup help to follow

How to install Mirc
First off download mIRC from here (http://www.mirc.com/get.html)

once you have the latest installer run it and install to c:\mIRC

Once installed launch mIRC, the first time you will get asked to enter your details, Your nickname should ideally be your screen name for TBCS so we can see who is who. For example i am XcOM on IRC.

Now you need to join the server type: /server irc.rizon.net

After a minute you should see quite a bit of text fly past, ignore this, then you might get the following window open asking you join a room, ignore this and cancel it

You will need to register with the server to keep your username as yours, Type: /Nickserv register PASSWORD EMAIL (Replace PASSWORD with your password and e-mail with a valid e-mail address)

You must use a valid e-mail address as you need to validate your nickname, do this by going to your e-mail and find the e-mail from Rizon, check your junk as some class rizon as spam.

the e-mail will contain an activation code. In mIRC enter your code: /msg NickServ confirm xxxxxxxxx

now your in you will need to identify yourself everytime to join the room, this is done with the command "/Nickserv identify PASSWORD

now you can join us in TBCS,

type /Join #TBCS

and welcome to the fun

Rizon has a lot of good services. To take advantage of these, you have to register your nickname.

To register on rizon, once you're connected, type /nickserv register password email

the password IS case sensitive.

Once you log in each time, type /nickserv identify password

If you're registered, you can get auto voice in the channel.

As the owner of the channel, I require that staff members register me and notify me of their nicks so that I can set them up with auto ops and whatnot.

My IRC name is peer`.

mIRC works for 30 days, then after that, it works after a few seconds of naggs, its nagware!

on a second point... omega... i rly suggest u fix ur auto op... havin it setup for auto op isnt to bright...... my suggestion.... have it auto offer ops to those who r of the staff variety but with a need for a user specific password...cuz well if not.... heh lets jus say it would take about 5 mins to take over ur channel... ban all of u...... and laugh at ya'll heh..... not tryin to sound like a prick... but i personaly have experience with hostile room/server takedowns/takeovers.... TRI made this kinda mistake a long time ago....4x4 evo payed for it with months of server crashes... take overs... u name.... this is more than a mere suggestion... this is a urgent one :P

The auto op only does it to TBCS staff.

I know what I'm doing. ;)

Oh, and if somebody DOES hijack the channel, I can get it back quite easily (~10 secs or so to log into the chanserv as founder and whatnot), then talk to Rizon about getting a Gline (Global permanent kill, basically no more IRC), and talk to the admins here about getting a ban.

Nobody, and I mean feckin' nobody, hijacks one of my channels, and even less so something for TBCS. The wrath of the gods shall be brought upon them.


Also, Power scheme goes like this (numbers will be explained):

9999 - peer` (Me, it's my chan after all)
5000 - Crimson
10 - Other Admins
5 - Moderators
4 - SSA's, Praecorians, etc (XcOM excluded, since he's taken to moderating and helping me with the channel, he's a level 5)
3 - TBCS members

9999 = Owner, Founder, etc. Basically, I started and run the channel.
5000 = Op/Protected. Can't be banned. Basically it's a really high number for something that can be done with 10 access, but hey, Crimson's the big boss, so I figured what the hell.
10 = Op/Protected for the other admins. Same as above, 'cept Crimson has more power. Still can't be banned iirc.
5 = Op. They'll moderate the channel if need be. They can kick and ban.
4 = Half-Op. Saved for SSA's and Praecorians so they still have power. They can kick but not ban.
3 = Voice. This means you can chat when the channel is muted, and this is saved for TBCS members. Non-TBCS members will not get voices. And if somebody steps out of line and doesn't warrant a kick or ban, I'll set the channel to +m and devoice you so you can't chat.

So there you go, the power scheme for #TBCS

Rizon is an international network with servers all over the world.

why don't you ping it and traceroute the IP address? Also, find out what server you're on, like rizon.net, plzhalp.us, xstaticsolutions.com, etc. Rizon has a LOT of these servers.

There's only Me, Calumc, crenn and a pair of bots in there. (Oh, and Omega and noopypoop drop by occasionally.)

I can close the thread if you want. The TBCSchat wasn't intended to kill the irc, but I had recieved a few requests for an in house chat system for people who didn't want to do irc. Plus this was handier for many members to just have a chatroom one click away. Now, if the irc is dead, then in order for you guys who use it to chat with the rest of the members you'll have to use the flash chat. If I remember, your main problem with the chatroom was speed. Just how bad is it in terms of laggyness? There are a few things I can do to speed it up like get rid of the smilies, avatars, status messages, and I think the graphic interface if it is so bad you can't use it. Are you folks on dial up?

lol, theres lag on there for me too. I noticed it the other day. It might be the interface, the avatars can't be helping the issue. And that playlist thing, if its not used can it just be gone? Thats got to be using some resource somewhere:p.

I am on it quite a bit, and so far I really haven't seen an impact, except possibly if I am trying to run another flash app, such as video or a game. Now granted I am not on it while I am gaming, but since you can't really chat in most full screen games anyway, I haven't seen it as a problem.

I already removed the mp3 list so it shouldn't be a problem. I can also lose the avatars but not right now. When I get some free time I'll trim it up and see if it doesn't run a little faster.

I updated the flash plugins, and that solved the "flash-is-crippling-my-machine" problem, but I'm not keen on keeping a browser window open all the time I want to chat. (And I keep forgetting that it's got the chat in it, and closing it....)

And no, I'm not on dialup. (although it sometimes feels like it... /me curses 'Web 2.0' and all it's assorted cruft.)

I may drop into the flash chat from time to time now that flash doesn't slow things down too badly... (although I'll probably end up closing the wrong tab and leaving the chat...)
