Hi there. this is a really simple quick question. didnt see anything reliable on the net so i figured i would ask arround

i got some cold cathode tubes but the wire between the tube and the inverter is not long enough. i know these inverters most likely output some serious voltage. i knowticed that the wireing between the tube and the inverter seems to be insulated in silicone (however thats spelled) wich is likely for the elevated voltages. i wanted to splice in some other wire to extend the lenght of these but im a little concerned about this causeing a problem due to the voltage insulation diffrence. has anyone here ever done this before?

Are you talking about a case cold cathode? If so (and anybody correct me if I am wrong), you should be able to do it. I have done it with the ones for my car and they have worked without a problem since installing them over a year ago. Just make sure that you use the same gauge (or as close as possible) wire when doing it. Also make sure where you connect the wires, that they are connected securely and are not exposed. As we all should know or have experienced, bad things can happen.

thats what i wanted to hear. that someone has done this and it didnt burn them out or catch fire or do some other nasty thing because of improper insolation. awesome. thanks for the answer.

can you just move the inverter?

You could always get one of these:

Its just an extension cable for the white CCFL cable, at least this way you won't void your warranty.

You can. And it would be a lot easier. But if they are like me, I look for the cheapest feasible way to do it. It also depends if the cathodes they are using have those connectors. That looks like one for a monitor type cathode (if I'm not mistaken.

BTW, was this for a case or monitor? I did make my post if it were for a case cathode just make sure you are aware of that. Monitor cathodes are different.

nope cant move the inverter. just want longer cables.

thats a good find. i dont mind about voiding the warranty i just want to know if its possable to extend them without going and buying stuff and then waiting for shipping and all that nonsense. if its not posable that looks like the way to go really.

Those extension cables are for case cathodes. You should be able to extend the cables. I accidentally cut one of the white cables while I was removing a zip tie from one of my CCFLs. I just got out the old solderer and joined the two cables back together, add a bit of insulating tape and hey presto it works once again.
