What changes must I make to get the most performance out of my 640MB 8800GTS without OC'ing?

Want the most performance? Set everything to low.

If you change some setting in there you may run into a similar problem to what I had with STALKER. If you set it to "application choice" (or whatever it is) you can change to settings in game and it won't affect your experience. Most of thiee settings there are for 2D and desktop use anyway.
