Hi everyone,

With the new dimensions of the forums I was considering changing the sig size requirements to 100*450 or 100*500. However, the last time I changed the dimensions I was nearly lynched. So I will leave it up to you, if you think it would look better with shorter and longer sigs we can change them, or if you would prefer they stay the way they are that's fine too. I'll make this a poll and let the members decide.

exactly why I chose 100x500 haha. Although it may seem a little thin, it will definitely be a lot more eye friendly than stretched out posts with a big block at the bottom left of each one.

no problem for more: I'm already under those specs

100x500 for me - wont alter the page size and gives you a little more room for your sig.

I voted for 100 * 500, but also feel that the current size should be allowed as well for a grace period, so everyone who's got sigs can resize/redo them.

Well with a sig at 400 x 53 px It must be pretty obvious where my vote went. I'm glad the staff have decided to revive this issue and seek opinions of forum members.

:)

EDIT: My new temporary "campaign sig" is a mere 400 x 50. Thin is beautiful. My next sig might involve a tastefully dressed leggy blonde. Laying down of course. Or she'd be really really tiny. Tiny leggy blonde is definitely an oxymoron too far.

skinneh and long...... floats my boat and gets my vote 8)

mostly coz my mouse wheel will be greatful for not scrolling quite as much but the longer one would give those arty types a whole nother 50000 pixels to play with! :D

I don't know why this issue is even coming up again except that J must want a bigger sig.

It's getting more and more obvious that some people are no longer actively inputting and others are more than making up for it.
I say leave things the way they are. It's a modding site, and modding should be the main idea behind it. If you have somethin that's so important you need a bigger space to show it off... start a work log.

I'm not really sure what the rest of your post is about however 100 x 500 pixels is smaller than 400 x 150 pixels.

Are you talking about me? "J"? Don't be an ass, read the first post. I'm considering in because of the new dimensions and I'm leaving up to the community. If I wanted a bigger sig than the one I have I'd make one. If you see a thread that you don't want to talk about, then don't comment on it.

I think wider, shorter sigs would look nicer. I don't want to have to make a new one, but hey, who does? lol Time to install dem tablet drivers...

Yeah Ironcat, bear in mind that staff are allowed to have sigs larger than the rest of the forum (however they have to pretain to some tbcs event or something, like when I had my 500px wide sig that was actually two images, and the second one looked like it was part of the first, but it linked to the modcast and said "modcast" on it).

I think the real idea behind this is as it appears: The staff want our opinion on what the new sig dimensions should be. They don't need a reason to change something like this. And obviously they care what we think, otherwise they'd just change it without asking us.

oh, and I voted for 100*500

Okay,
I think there is a happy medium here. I am really liking the slim sigs now, especially with the new dimensions, they look so much nicer. So I am asking everyone who is willing, to change your size to 500*100. But it's not mandatory. You can keep your old sigs if you prefer and I'll update the rules soon to reflect this so new members will be slightly less confused. lol

you could put in the rules that sig dimensions can be either 400*150 OR 500*100, or anything smaller, but no like 500*150 malarkey.

I just had an interesting thought. Since the pic area stretches across the screen anyway on linked pics (the ones not uploaded to the profile), I wonder how it would look for sig images to be even shorter like maybe 50-60px and run across the whole post (which is max 799px). Anyone want to try this and see how it looks? And for the ones who get upset at me when I mention sig, don't worry, I'm not going to force anyone's hand here, I'm just curious.

To be honest I don't know. I've checked every system I can think of and I am still without an explanation.

hmmm...doesn't look very good does it? I doubt this would look too great unless most people used them and if they were even shorter than that.

maybe leave people the choice to either have a normal sized sig (400x150px I believe) or make a slimmer wide one (750x75 or something)

I think A sig will look good when it is wide and slim, but there are some sigs on the board that look very nice as they are (smaller but higher)

yeah, but then 70% of the page is peoples sigs and then other 30% is actual content. I kinda like the restrictions on here, it makes for a forum that is very easy on the eyes.

The gifs I'm kinda neutral about; I don't think they'd annoy me if they were allowed, but a) I don't really care and b) they could increase page loading times so there yeah go. However, this site is still made to be dial-up friendly...

I like restrictions, makes you work harder to get an effective sig.

70 x 700 could look good, but only if it's strictly enforced - 70 x 700 or nothing - that way we get a uniform look that takes up little screen space. Would even work if the rule stated that sigs MUST be 700 pixels wide (no more, no less), and up to 70 high - and all justified the same (left/ centre/ whatever).

That way the sigs all line up nice and neat like.

I really hate forums where some people have a nice little wide sig and someone else has a 500 x 500 monster.

Classy is what TBCS is about (kinda), and I reckon the sig rules should reflect that.

Omega

I think the shorter, wider sigs look good too. But more than that I prefer as much uniformity in size as possible and we are currently are allowing 2 sizes. I've seen how other forums with a wide variety of sig sizes look and I think it's tacky looking. It's too much of a pain to get everyone to redo their sigs and it also pisses everybody off so it's just not worth messing with. Let's stick with the two we have.

You know what would work? Having the option of 500x100 or 700x70, and both are centered. That would make for a very uniform look...

02-10-2008, 08:22 PM
I like the centered idea, but the two size options available at the moment are 100*500 and 150*450. I would have preferred all 100*500 but most of the members had already redesigned their sigs prior to the reformatting of the forums and it was too many people to ask to do it again. If most of the people want to center their sigs then I can nudge the rest to do the same though.

No need, I have no reservations about it anymore. I tried to be diplomatic in the beginning and it got me nowhere but that era is over, permaban is my pleasure now. Thanks for the backup though.

The larger sig for logo idea is interesting, I'm okay with it but we still need some restrictions. Lets say, (and this is only a trial) 100*700 max and centered for TBCS projects, logos, love letters to me, etc..
