Hello Everyone,

I actually got a little time to start on my Playstation 2 mod! I know that usually around this site its usually PC mods but i figured that since this was my first mod you all will forgive me :P

My initial idea was to create a completely acrylic case for my ps2... but i decided that was a little tacky so i changed it a little to have an aluminum structure with lexan (stronger than acrylic) panels. I also am gonna change this from a tray loading ps2 to a top loading ps2, how, I am still working on. I am thinking of making this case briefcase-like with hinges and a handle to lift the top, exposing the drive and such. I dunno... still bangin around ideas. anyways... so here goes:

box of ps2 innards, disassembled nice and neat (not really)
i had already done this before today, helped me in brainstorming.

Cutting the aluminum. Used a dremel for lack of better idea. Sawsall might have been a better choice. i dunno.

Your not modding a computer? Off with his head!

Actually I am not sure it matters what you mod as long
as we can look at the pictures and say "That's cool..." :D

So go for it! I will be sitting practicing my lines...

well, last night I had some free time to work on this, so i thought i would update and tell you all about it... but it really wasn't that exciting. mainly more of the same as above, cutting aluminum to the right size and finally being able to file my edges (went out and bought a file. yay. my first metal file. ) I am using JB Weld on the top of the case to make it look better than having a rivet or bolt through like you saw in the bottom. I am at school and don't have a pic of the jb weld excitement, but will when i get home :P

what grit sandpaper should i use for a nice finish on aluminum? and where to get something finer than 400? stupid lowes and home depot both stop at 400 unless i'm an idiot.

I went to grid 400 with my ALu plates and then used spray-putty. Then again a little sanding with grid 400 and then the primer and color-coats. Also 400 grid sanding between the coats.

Time consuming but it gives a great result. And although it's somewhat boring, it can make or break your mod. So pay enough attention to it ;)
Good that you're serious with treating the plates already. I can ensure you'll see the reward of that later on:up:
