This was not a pc mod directly, but it directly benefits my modding situation. Unfortunately I do not have a pic of the before, but this was just a bunch of boxes and pcs piled up against the wall.

For this project I build a desk from the ground up.

Materials Used:

2"x2" Baluster Railings
4 sheets of 2'x2' 3/4" plywood
4 1"x2"x4' trim
High density board 1/8" sheets for the bottom shelves
Screws and finishing nails
16 Marble 12"x12" tiles

With stuff. Still have to go through the boxes of pc cables, parts, and modding parts in the left storage area.

This gives me much more room for storage and space to work. Other than cleaning out the boxes on the left I am done with this project. What you see under the chair portion of the desk is a small shelf that I had that i tucked under their to keep my pc games and such. Works out nice.

Its big. 2' deep x 8' long x ~30" high. But gives me so much more space. Built in 2 days probably working about 3 hours a day. Overall probably cost about $80. Very sturdy and I build it semi-modularly so it is easy to take apart if need be and reassemble.

Wasn't meant to be a perfect work of art, just a robust workspace. The tiles make it real simple to replace the top if something happens to it. Just pull up a tile and replace it. You could even replace the whole top with new tiles for a different color. I liked the Marble tiles. On top of that they only cost $.99 a tile at Home Depot, so $15.84+tax for a marble top!

Now I have to clean up the mess directly across from this. My gaming pc area and glass desk. Wire management and glass desks ftl, but I will fix all that.

Thanks man. It did come out nice. I like the idea that for like 15$ I can go get different colored tile and change the look of it on a whim.

And its real sturdy. Its heavy too, but sturdy. Didn't cost much and does exactly what I needed it to.

Well... ... ... lol

One thing I did wish while I was building it was that the hardware I bought from Lowes didn't suck monkey balls. The finishing nails they had were crap, atleast the box I got. The nails were all soft, like real soft. Softer than any finishing nail than I've used.

Well the only answer I have for that is...You should have taken them back and made em eat them, I bet they wouldn't think they were soft haha.

All in all it does look great, plenty of room for everything. A great mod space :).

Ya I should have, but it wasn't worth the drive through traffic and I figured id just cope. Came out in the end.

Thanks for the support man. Now I can get back to Project Nightrain and Project Alb with space instead of just being on the floor all the time.

Don't worry, I already started and made a small update or two on Nightrain. Project Alb will get banged out right for completion somewhere between December 20 - December 25. Girlfriends Birthday and Christmas. It must be done by then. As it is nothing crazy that shouldn't be a difficult task.

one thing, how did you manage to spend $65 on timber for that? I dont know about the US but over here that would but you quite a bit of timber provided you dont go to a DIY place.

EDIT after looking at it some more: planed red deal, you did go to a DIY place didnt you :p

Ya Home Depot / Lowes. Not sure if you have one of those there, or if the prices would even be the same.

~ $40 for 2x2's
~$15 for ply
~$6 on 1x2 tim
~I already had the mdf stuff for the shelf, but that cost me like $4 when I bought it before.

So ya about that much. I bought a little bit more than I needed on everything so I probably spent closer to $100 total instead of $80 but it could be done in much less. I just didn't want to run out and have to spend extra money on gas and waste an hour going to get more wood. The extra will come in handy for something else eventually.

I can safely say you could have easily halved that by going to a builders timber yard :)

Probably. I've only lived here in Framinham, MA for 4 months or so, so I only knew about Lowes and Home Depot. The 2x2's there are probably upwards of 50 4' bars used in the project.
