I just received my Q6600 today. I took out my E6600 so my bro can have it on his new PC and installed my new CPU. I knew this thing would be hotter than my E6600 but these temps seem a bit high. The Q6600 is ideling at about 46-47*C (according to Everest Ultimate). My system is just sitting on my desk due to me still modding my case, it has full ventilation. I am using the stock cooler from my E6600, would this make a difference? I have also re-applied AS5 with no temp difference and check to pins on the heatsink locked correctly. Everything is as it should be. My north bridge temp also rose, is this normal, I would guess so.
Is this just the stock temp of a Q6600? If so I am glad I am water cooling lol.
EDIT: The Q6600 I have has the Kentsfield core so there shouldn't be any compatability issues with the 680i chipset I am using.

There's no issues.
1. It's a hotter running CPU. It just, is.
2. AS5 (and all thermal compound) doesn't work at 100% until about 250 hours into computer use. That gives it time to fill in the microscopic holes that cause heat.
3. It uses more power. More power = more heat.

I know all that and I figured as much. I just wanted to know what temps other people were experiencing, my E6600 idled around 35*C, I just thought an extra 15*C was a bit excessive.

4 cores vs. 2 cores
It just is hotter, nothing you can do about it.

Ok thanks. That's just what I thought but I thought I should just make sure, it is fairly hot lol.

mines at 40*C right now, watercooled @ 3.3GHz w/ 1.525v
Stupid volt hungry cpu...
But that seems fine, mine has hit 80+ before, thats cus i O/C'd too far though, like 4GHz near enough with 1.67v or something stupid like that...

does the e6600 heatsink have the copper core? if it doesn't i believe the q6600's are shipped with copper cores not aluminum ones.

Well the E6600 stock cooler has the copper base so I presume it has the copper core. Both coolers look the same to me.

I don't have the stock cooler on mine, but that seems about right to me.
