As some of you may know... it's been a major train wreck since my moms identity was stolen... forced to rent a house (wasted money every month instead of owning) lost my car, forced to hold off on college... can't get a job without owning my own car... etc etc etc
well, my mom received mail from the County of San Diego : Department of Probation.
"The above name defendant has been convicted of 1 PC530.5(a) USE PERSONAL IDENTIFYING INFORMATION OF ANOTHER, for the crime committed on 01/25/2007, in which you were victim."

Woot! I would tell you to hunt him down and beat the living **** out of him, but getting due justice should be enough. Enjoy it.
Just goes to show you that America's Legal System isn't (completely) jacked.

That and the fact that we don't advocate violence (or profanity) here right?
Greco-
Really glad to hear the theif was caught and hope his punishment fits the crime. Do you know if you two will be able to recover any of your losses?

My mom has to file for compensation from the "state victim compensation program" but all of the money will most likely not be paid back "through the criminal court process" but "provides a foundation for establishing civil liability against the defendant." It also says their "will be an automatic lien against any of the defendants real property/ wages." if she gets probation.
...PROBATION... for committing multiple federal offenses....HA!
Basically, what it boils down to is my mom will get some of her money back from things we lost/stress she went through... but most likely wont be anywhere near what she lost. To get that, she will have to sue HER (defendant is a woman) for the remainder. My mom is planning on doing whatever she can to put the ***** on the streets like the trash she is.
My night vision system should be here soon where I will be able to monitor outside with a camera attachment so I can snap some clear photos for hopefully more lawsuits.
I really don't look kindly to people that make a living on lawsuits but in this case it's much different. We're not looking for them. People just wont leave us alone and it's about time at least a small percentage of justice will be served.

"Whoever appeals to the law against his fellow is either a fool or a coward. Whoever can not take care of themselves without that law is both. As the wounded man shall say to his assailant, 'If I live, I will kill you. If I die, you are forgiven'. Such is the rule of Honor."
From "Omerta", by Lamb of God.
I thought it fits.

I'm glad to see that the law is coming through for you, and actually doing something to help. Situations like these really destroy my hope for humanity, but having someone actually do something about it really brings a bit of cheer to my day. :)
Check out Crenn's post "Something clever.." for a bit more "feel good" stuff. :D
Greco: Hurry up and get that GTO back now!!!

I was thinking about the GTO and I don't think I'll ever be getting another one. I loved the car but the insurance for me was out of the roof... I can't believe my mom was paying it and I've come to realize how selfish I was to let her. Although it was only recently that I found out how much it was, I should have known.

I...but the insurance for me was out of the roof... ...
I am old enough to get the best discount, married, drive my car less than 10k miles/year, ticket and accident free for the last 5 (or more) years and the insurance on my Mustang kills me. Not sure which is more expensive, the tires or the insurance...

It's crazy. I got a general idea of how much it'd cost for me (16yo male) to drive my Porsche ('74 914), and it was INSANE.
I probably won't be driving soon.

You kids crack me up. You get your licence and think you'll be driving around sportin your fancy ride at 16. Your first car(s) are suposed to be clunkers held together with spit, bailing wire, and an overbearing amount of duct tape. Its not untill you take full responsibillity for all the costs associated with owning a car that you come to realize that $750 geo metro you wouldnt let your friends catch you in was a bargain.
Hey Greco, congrats for taking responsibillity. Good luck with your litigation.

If you had seen this 914, you'd probably understand.
It sat in a barn for 14 years. It was dented, rusting, the transmission linkage hated everybody, it squeaked if you did anything, it needed to be dipped in a vat of WD40 and you'd be lucky to find the gear the first time.
But I loved it. It wasn't even really that quick. It's just the fact that it's a Porsche that a lot of people think I'm rich or something. We got it for $1000 =/

I must live in awesomeville then because everyone I ever knew in high school were driving around in either semi-brand new cars (the cheaper ones, granted) or old muscle cars that were usually in good shape and condition. But then again, everyone I have ever known has also known how to use their brains and muscles, so they could afford to have nice things, such as nice cars.
So I guess it depends on the person. If you want nice things, such as nice cars to cruise around in while picking up chicks, then you better work your ass off. Otherwise, you'll be like me, sportin' a 96' minivan with rusted out rims and a broken dashboard. :D
...I haven't quite gotten it to the duct tape point, but its getting there. :p

My first car was a 1985 Volvo 240DL sedan and quite possibly the ugliest color ever. It was the old yellow color, but with 18 years of fading and sap on it. It sucked arse. But looking back now, that was probably the best car I've owned.
1985 240dl -> 2g slammed n turbo'd eclipse -> 2000 Mercury Cougar -> 2003 Dodge SRT-4
The DL was cheap, cheap insurance, was a freaking tank, and drove beautifully.
On the insurance concept, technically I am under insurance of my uncles ford Ranger because it is much cheaper overall lol. My uncle is under the SRT-4. If I was to be under it, it was close to 5k a year just for insurance, and I have a clean record.
I want to sell it and pick up a late 80's 944, or a 60's/70's muscle car. But we will see. Cars are so expensive.
