How do I turn a LCD display into a Vista compatible auxiliary display? Or am I forced to purchase one of those Vista auxiliary devices? Thanks.

yeah, im seeing an increasing number of wireless Sideshow compatible devices and remote controls and stuff, but I'm more interested in plastering a LCD unit on to my case that delivers sideshow widgets, sorta like those high-end home entertainment units.

Im just curious has any one seen a simple USB Sideshow LCD? I know one comes w/ some ASUS boards, but has anyone seen a standalone screen?

Thanks,
Indybird

Couldnt you use one of thoes electronic picture frames? I've seen some with a 7" screen. I imagine they connect with usb or firewire.

They also have buttons for controlling it, so just an LCD wouldn't work.

yeah thats the bummer on the sideshow devices is that they actually have their own controls/cpu or w/e so they can be on while your pc is off.

I found these three while looking for similar applications for my mod. I want to have a secondary display to run various widgets outside of windows and allow for additional interfaces.

I am currently trying to get some pricing info on the winbond product. I will post when I get that and additional info.

Yeah, I tried winbond, but it appears to be sold as OEM to chip manufacturers, so you'll have to buy'em in bulk :S

Yeah that is what I got back. There is a minimum order of 60 units at $10.53 a piece. If we could get enough people into it we could probably organize something, but I'm not sure if we have enough interest at this point. I am going to try and contact some modding suppliers and see if they would be willing to stock this item? Who knows we might get lucky.

at 10.63 a piece, I'd order 3 myself.

I would be in for 3-5 myself. Also I forgot to add that there si a 16 week lead time for all orders at this time. I guess it is in high demand or still new enough that they haven't built up stock yet. Also I am still trying to get the tech specs on the controller. Not really sure what type of LCD is need or is compatible with the chip set.

pretty sure we could hook it up to any lcd with a vga connector. it'd be nice if we can purchase one of those 4-7" lcds for a htpc setup.

Well I just won an ebay auction for a psone lcd. I figured I will just mod this to fit the computer. There are a couple of methods out there for modding the lcd to fit into the computer. I figure I might be able to turn this into a secondary monitor and have it perform similar to how I want the axillary display to.
