Hey guys, just wondering how much you recommend buying a
jigsaw. I have dremel already but a jigsaw seems like it would
be a whole ton easier for the big cuts that im going to be doing.

Actually I just used mine over my dremel to saw through the massively thick case material. It's a useful tool to be sure. :)

are you talking a jig saw (http://students.washington.edu/lum/projects/house_projects/images/jig_saw.jpg), or reciprocating saw (http://www.powertoolsuk.co.uk/webcat/pics/dewalt/dw008k275.jpg)?
if the metal can take a reciprocating saw i would take that. but i have never really given the jigsaw a full shot at it, it seemed to be more noisy. but ya for big cuts i would grab either over a dremel. jigsaw would be more precise i think then a reciprocating saw too.

Get a small angle grinder (~100mm) and use 1mm cut off blades, like a knife through butter.

hey i know this is kind of random but i didnt want to start a new
post just to ask it. So here we go: If i want to secure a mesh or plexi
window with bolts do i just drill a hole in both the panel and mesh/plexi
and put a bolt through it? Ive heard people talk about threading their holes or
something like that.

If your just trying to hold them together you can just drill the holes through both pieces and slide a bolt through and throw a nut on there. Thats the easy way.
Say your trying to affix a piece of plexi to another thick piece though and don't have space behind it then you might consider taking a tap and die set and threading the hole.
But for what your doing it sounds like you just want to screw a few holes and throw a bolt through and affix it with a nut. Yup it will work.

You shouldn't pay more than 40 bucks for a good, long lasting jigsaw.
Make sure you buy blades designed for metal & not wood for case bashing!

What Nil said about the saw blades. Blades made for cutting metal _also_ work well in plexi so long as you go slow to prevent melting...
