Lets set the scene. I live in a nice area and have always felt quite safe going to sleep at night with my car parked right outside.

Now my car is by no means a great car, in fact the car itself is pretty average, a pug 206. I used to be quite into modding it so it has the obvious alloy wheels, spoiler, bucket seats etc etc. Nothing special.

However one area of car modding I used to really enjoy was sound offs, who has the loudest bass and nicest sound system. So over the years I built up quite a system, five 12" subs, five 1000w amps, power caps, expensive wiring, many component speakers etc etc, I had so much kit in the back I had the back seats removed and it all built in the the rear of the car.

Now all of this was kept fully covered up unless it was at a show and I never ever played the music loud around the streets, yet some pathetic low life scum decided, last night, to bust my doors open and take the lot, everything - they didn't even leave the screws holding it all in.

I'm not into modding cars anymore and had no use for the system, but it was still mine and words cannot express how angry I am right now, propper low life scum I truly wish great pain and suffering on them.

And don't get me started on the police, useless bunch of ****'s !!!!!!

Needless to say I am not a happy chappy right now, nice to get it off me chest though.

ya my brother had his setup taken, not as nice as yours but still taken. he followed my brother around and managed to get our address. thankfully he didn't steal his cd album (200+cd's). never having a car, i haven't had this happen and hope to never. i know the police take there time but still worth a shot.

hopefully karma does work and he gets something jacked from him that he loved/enjoyed.

People who steal stuff are low life pieces of sh*t.

I can't stand them. I've never gone and seen something and gone "Oh I have to steal that" and I don't see how anyone can. Work and make the sacrifice for it.

GODDDDDDDDDDDDDD those people piss me off. Dude I'm heated for ya. Not many things get me really heated but theft is def up there. I wish the punishments were like what they used to be...these people wouldn't steal much more than once.

I agree police are **** these days. They would probably arrest me for saying that yet i could get away with murder in front of them.

Hope you get the stuff back though. My dads car was broken into a few weeks back maybe months, they did it all for a fiver... Thats how low life they really are.

Yet if you try to defend yourself against theft by putting tazers on your lawn (hey what an idea) or hit someone after they start on you its your fault, the law is always on the criminals side, this is why we have a government, the law is on their side.

Did you have an alarm? I have one in my car, but i took the fuse out because it is just so annoying having to do deal with it (it auto-arms so you're always in fear of it going off after being in the car too long after turning it off) but its parked in the garage. I don't worry about it in the school parking lot because the nicest thing i have in there is the crappy deck it has.

Yeah, it probably wouldn't have helped anyway. Bet hey, you learn from your mistakes. I don't know how expensive they are, but you could put a little money into a simple system and have the better peace of mind. And karma will get that guy (he will probably be in jail soon, because that's the way it happens).

man that sux. its not always about just the expense its about what i call personal value. i remember i had a bike that was all busted up. front forks were bent so bad the front break calipers were the only thing stopping from folding right over and snapping off. neither derailer worked. no breaks and believe it or not some guy took it. now i know what some of you may be thinking.. that bike sounds like its junk anyways. big deal. well your right, it is a peice of junk, but its MY peice of junk and i like it. thats personal value. i hope somehow some way they either get busted or some other nasty thing happens to them for ya dude.

3 years since Dime passed. Damn the time is flying.

On topic now. Getting **** stolen from you is horrid. Buddy of mine had a custom made horse saddle get stolen a good ten years ago. He spent nearly 10 grand on this work of beauty. I'll never forget how broken he seemed after it was ripped off.

The good news is, by stroke of providence, a close friend of his found it a few years back in a pawn shop in Topeka. The custom saddlehorn had been sanded flat, but other than that, it was intact. Authorities were informed, paperwork was filled out, and now the saddle is back in his possession. And like the day it was stolen, I'll never forget how elated he was when he finally got it back!

They'll get theirs. The conscience and mystical forces working on it won't let whoever did it get away with it scot-free. Something will happen to them, and be happy that you still have everything you DO have.

Not only am I offended by the blatant racism, but I know a black kid at my school who's probably the biggest metalhead there and Pantera is his favorite band. Hell, he made a clay model of Dimebag because he was bored one day.

Yes stealing is bad but people who steal can also be violent to. So leave the Police to deal with it. That does suck though. If you can't put your car in a garage then maybe put a car cover on it.

maybe put an ELECTRIFIED car cover on it.

Actually... that sounds pretty cool. REALLY cool. okay, this idea is goin somewhere. GOIN SOMEWHERE, BABY!

Along the outside rim, it could have magnetic clasps that would correspond with magnetic clasps placed on the car, and on the magnetic clasps there would be a small electric current running from the car battery into the carcover computer (where the capacitors would be), and when the electric current is broken, the computer (with a circuit board printed on a flexible sheet of silicon so it can bend with the carcover) knows that someone has pulled off the car cover without permission.

It then shocks the unauthorized puller with 50,000 volts of high amperage electricity. In the deluxe model, an electrified net of wires would burst off the car, and around the unauthorized user. He would totally shocked, like out of his mind.

The cover could be disarmed by an RFID chip in the users keychain, much like the discovercard "tap and go" credit card, the user would just have to touch the RFID chip to a specified spot on the carcover, it would go "beep" to let the user know it was disarmed, and then we he would know it is safe to take the carcover off and stow it for further use.

the car with the cover would only have to have the wiring from the carcover battery (located on the car) to the magnetic clasps that would be installed on the car.

Wow. That idea is awesome, i need to get right on that.

Better figure out some way to not let a short or a ground happen. Cause if it does, you'll end up with an electric car cover permanently fused to your car.

I don't think you would want high amperage electricity. What does it take, 6 milliamps across the heart to kill someone? You would want high voltage, extememly low amperage for that kind of shock I would think. You don't want to go killing people, least I hope not.

just get an electric fence for cattle, those things will fairly give you a hop!!

.1 amp of 50000 volt electricity, in a web of small filament-like somewhat-high resistance wires, so that when they spring away from the car and touch the thief he is electrocuted, and doesn't want to ever steal again.

Totally awesome.

Quakken
12-11-2007, 11:38 PM
okay, okay, just .001amps... a 10th of a milliamp. that shouldn't kill him... right?

Sure, you'd have to put a warning on the outside (danger! High voltage! no touch!) to avoid frivolous lawsuit, but hey- this thing could work. a flexible capacitor in the cover, that had a controlled discharge so it could be done 4-5 times. Be kick-awesome.

lol i was gonna say something about using electricity too, but it would probably run the battery dead, need to implement a switching system or smth.

my car, alls it has is a headphone jack wired up to the speakers to plug in my mp3 player with. (im a poor bastard lol)

sucks about the system though

Theft is the lowest of low. My headunit was yanked from my SUV parked in my lit driveway early one morning. Smash and grab... wasnt a really expensive unit by any stretch, but cost me more to repair the glass than what the damn unit was worth. I'll replace it with a better unit *after* I wrap up on my Deuce mod, that will allow me to clean up the garage enough to park the vehicle inside the garage.

My sympathies bro....

Thats really messed up. People who steal are really low life scum. One morning some idiot smashed my dad's car window and I bet he was planning on stealing my dad's beat up station wagon which survived more than 1 accident. But the only thing that stopped him was a brake pedal lock such as this. http://img155.imageshack.us/img155/6070/rodi1979258214273bd3.jpg

I almost think that they should go back to punishments such as cutting hands off for the more major thefts. That'd deter people from stealing stuff, hahaha. All jail seems to be for some of these people is a minor inconvenience and a free place to stay at. At least that's from what I've seen...

I know it hurts when you have something taken away from you, I have plenty of experience with thieves. A couple of things I would like to mention here:

1) People who make statements like the police are against you, or corrupt...etc...clearly have never walked a mile in their shoes. I have worked along side them and I did not encounter any single one who had values different than yours or mine. They deal with all of our problems that we can't deal with ourselves, and the worst of the worst when it comes to abuse and general prejudice. So after dealing with murders, child abuse, spousal abuse, rape, etc..., don't be surprised if they don't get all choked up about a non-violent burglary. It doesn't mean they don't care, but they have seen worse that day. Does that mean all police are saints? of course not, but use your brains when you look at a group of people before you decide what they stand for.

2) Although I totally understand the desire for revenge or pre-emptive punishment such as electrical shock deterrents, keep this in mind; if you build it inaccurately and it's too powerful you will be tried for murder (arguably premeditated). It is not legal (in most states) to protect your property with deadly force, ever. And two, what happens when a little kid crawls under your car to get his/her baseball? Oops, killed a kid.. bummer eh?

This is why I'm having reservations about leaving Montana in the near future. It is legal in this state to defend yourself in your home with deadly force--but that's the key; you have to be home, and there has to be reasonable evidence that the perpetrator is going to either cause bodily harm or try to kill you.

Which brings me to my home security system. I stole this idea from Dave Navarro of Porno for Pyros/Jane's Addiction/Red Hot Chili Peppers fame: A 12 gauge shotgun with a maglight attached to it. I hear someone in my house, they're gonna hear the all too familiar ka-chink and then see the floodlight come on.

And then I'm gonna call the cops.

Tech-Daddy
12-18-2007, 03:36 AM
"Ka-Chink".... it does not matter what nationality you are or what language you speak...

*EVERYONE* knows what that sound means.
;)

Shotguns are actually the safest home security device. Most shot will not fully penetrate both sides of a wall (rapidly decelerate), and give you a better chance of hitting what you are aiming at jumping out of bed. A pistol is a single bullet that can and will pass through a wall/out of a house and have a much higher probability of hurting/killing an unintended recipient.

My Dad was law enforcement (street Cop then Federal, retired now), and I have all the respect in the world for them. I take them food and goodies every year @ Christmas time and shake their hands any time that I can.

yeah, I'd imagine 12ga to be good and reasonably powerful, if you're worried then use birdshot, lots more pellets, smaller ones at that, more thorough spray, probably won't kill the person but they would not walk out uninjured.

One of my pals in high school (who was a dumb ass extraordinarie to begin with) got hit in the behind with rock salt load while out in a small town smashing pumpkins on haloween. Ya know how the testosterone levels of high school guys make it a general cardinal sin not to cry infront of his buddies? He was way past caring.

Hahahahaha... rock salt in the ass!

I work with the police here also, and yes, though I dont agree with some of the things happen (including someone running a red light and hitting me, and not getting charged), I do appreciate that they have a job that I couldnt/wouldnt take.

Sucks about the theft, I know tons of people who have been hit the same way. I'm lucky that I've never been robbed (*yet*.. I should knock on wood now), but then again I only have the stock system in my main vehicle, and my little car has nothing.. just a hole in the dash.

Best of luck with the investigation, hopefully something good will come from it. :)

Oh the stories I can tell about growing up on a ranch regarding rock salt and shotguns.

I'll give you the cliff notes version: Very effective pissed off bull deterrent.

If anyone does decide to try this at home, be sure you clean your barrel immediately, as rock salt is not the best thing to be shooting out of a gun.
