This is more of just a curiosity. Yesterday my daughter (3) wanted to play an old tetris game I had on the desk. It was marked for Win 95/98. I was like it, probably won't work, but to satisfy her, we tried it. It worked without an issue. I didn't have to do the compatibility mode or anything, just click play. A few weeks ago, I was in the mood to play Warcraft II which was from the same Win 9x days. It installed fine but wouldn't play at all, even with compatibility mode. With the Win 9x games, is that all hit or miss if they work or is there a trick to get them to work? Looked up a few posts on google and they come up with the compatibility... I was more just curious. If nobody replies, no big deal. Being here though, someone is bound to post. :D

Thanks for any replies.

Aren't those prior to 9x?

In fact, WC3 is from 8.1, so 2 must be from there or lower.

But old game usability is hit or miss at times, i think there may be a workaround. good luck!

It was from 9x. I started out in Win 95, that is the only reason I remember that... I'll have to find the disk again.

I had WC2 working on my PC. I didn't do anything special either. If anyone figures anything out I would love to know.

I do not have WC2, but all of the games I bought for win95/98 do work on my winXP system with no issues or configuration. I will check with our local WC guy to see if he has any issues.

hmm....I'll have to make sure I check the disk this time when I get home. Maybe it is just one of those things where it won't work... Thanks for the responses.

Do some searching online too. Some games have updates that allow them to work on XP. The game "Red Baron" is/was like that. They eventually released a version that would work on XP, then made it free.

I think the disk is at my old house. I can't find it here. I looked on a forum and they said to get the battle.net edition which is about $15. My urge to play isn't worth that.

9x games and other programs that were for Win95 usually won't have a problem with XP. Old MS DOS games usually have problems.
