Hey, registered last night, but you know, then I had to get some form of sleep seeing as how I thought I had to get up at five in the morning. Anyway, I've always been a kind of girly geek and am having trouble think of what to make my first mod be based on. I thought about coming up with something completely original (read: not based on anything really), but then I figured that since it is my very first mod, having something to base it on would make it loads easier.

Also, I'm not even worrying about what kind of computer goes into the mod, it's just the case I'm thinking of right now.

Now, I know I said I was kind of a girly geek but don't take that as meaning I want an all pink computer case with cute kittens and flowers on it... I think I might just throw up if I had that in my room. I was thinking more of something like the fifth element, or maybe Immortal. Who knows, I just need help.

Make some sketches or something that might help. You did say you wanted it to be a original mod. A case designed after the fifth element would be cool.

Yeah, I'm definitely thinking of doing a fifth element type deal. Maybe with the stones, or some of the egyptian tablets on the outside of the case seeing as how I'm just planning on destroying an old tatung case. (Only computer in the house not filled with stuff my mom doesn't want me to possibly endanger).

Sketches will come as soon as possible, but don't expect much, most of my doodles end up being teddy bears weilding samuri swords and machine guns.

Fifth Element is a good theme to go with, because there are a number of directions. You could go with your stone ideas above, and be quasi-Egyptian and that would be really cool. (LEDs in the four stones, a bright white one in the Fifth, any thing.) Also, one of the things about that movie that always stood out to me was the rich use of bright colors - a rarity in sci-fi. Lots of opportunity for cold cathodes and windows.

(Another thing that popped in my head was something involving that regeneration chamber Leeloo is in at the beginning.)

Not trying to design your mod for you - just spitballin' ideas.

Okay so I really had to focus on what I was doing to be able to sketch this stuff without my army of bears invading:twisted:...

Just in case you can't read my hand writing the notes say:
Maybe make models of the stones (and coresponding pillars?) for top or one side. Maybe a model of the temple on the top? IDK.

I still haven't found a good picture of the symbols on the bottom of the tablet... anyone know where I might be able to see them clearly?

I like your theme idea. The fifth element was a wicked movie.

I got a cool idea for ya. You might want to think about slim-lining your parts so they'll fit as flat as possible into a base. You could then have the stones erected on the base, possibly making them into wind tunnels with some fans or whatnot. Find/buy/make a leeloo figurine to stand in the center. Light that mofo up with some colored LED's.

Oh, if your modding skills arent up to par, you could allways lay a normal case on its side and stand the stones on the side panel.

Seems pretty straight forward in my head. Its a shame i dont know how to use sketchup.

Anyway, theres an idea for ya.

Here's a pic of the stones http://www.ketzer.com/movie_props_replicas/fifth.html

Oh, here's a really intresting perspective. You could base your theme on the black planets point of view. Dark and mysterious, wanting to destroy the stones.

A mod off The Fifth Element would kick ass. That movie is awesome.

Just do a single stone, "open" with an LED for whatever element it is. Red for fire, blue for water, whichever one you decide on. Would have to be pretty big, even with a microATX board...

+rep and welcome aboard MrMonroe

Now as much as I love LED's, I don't know why I didn't think of that. Make the triangles out of plexi and then etch the waves or whatever in it. After that, frost the whole plexi piece. Then, dry brush some tans and browns.
Now for more LED fun. Take 3 LED's and mount them in the bottom. Use 2 reds and one orange/amber for fire. Make a circuit so that 1 red is on all the time, and the other red and orange/amber flicker. The water would be super cool. Use 2 blues, and 1 green.

not only that but, since I'm only modding an old case, I think that might be a bit too intricate (especially for my first mod ever) and would end up being gianormous. I'm basically thinking of coating the outside with some sort of polymer-ish clay-like substance and modeling it to replicate the egyptian tablets, and making a little sort of model of the four stones and maybe leeloo to go on top. No great expectations for this one from me.
