Welcome to my work log. I'll do all the explaining as I post pictures. I will post my resources, secrets and anything else useful I might know. By the way I use www dot FrozenCPU dot com to buy most all my modding supplies. They have a great selection and there just a great bunch of guys. Plus they are local for me so I can walk in and pick out what I need. If you ever call to order from them mention Olaf Berserker referred you. They know who I am. Use this message board to tell me what you think and leave some ideas otherwise PM me if your shy. Images best viewed in 1024x768. Enjoy!:D

(http://img227.imageshack.us/my.php?image=interiorv2000hx0.jpg)This is the beast that I will attempt to tame. It is a full server tower sporting enough room to let your imagination to run wild. It is also very $$$ and is made of high quality aluminum. So light i can pick it up with one finger and not my thumb.

I've don't some work to it already and never took pics of what I did. I do have some recent pictures and thats where we will pick up from.

(http://img167.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pa305905wk3.jpg)All of the above images are the beginning of this project. As you can see I've taped off the top portion in which I will be cutting out 3 120mm holes for the radiator. I made sure to tape off my work area to prevent accidental scratching in case the drill ever go away. It worked like a charm. I found a template online for three 120mm fans and printed it out. After marking my holes on the masking tape with the template, i then drilled small pilot holes to help guide the bigger drill bit that will do the cutting. To cut out the three holes, i used a 4 1/2" bi-metal whole saw and powerful high speed mixing drill. Its important to have a powerful high speed drill to make sure you get a clean cut. Brace the case hand on to the drill and let it rip! Wish I had more pics of the cut but Ill just right into the radiator mounting.

(http://img107.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pc146819sl5.jpg)This is what the radiator looks like mounted with three 120mm fans. All of these parts can be found on eBay. I found my radiator with 3 fans for $65 plus s&h. More pics below will show some up close shots and the rubber c-molding i used to cover the edges to make it look clean.

http://img100.imageshack.us/img100/9348/pc146824yq0.th.jpg

(http://img100.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pc146824yq0.jpg)Top view of the radiator. Back of the case is where the connections are for intake and output. They will run down the back of the case and in through the back.

http://img259.imageshack.us/img259/8116/pc146833qc4.th.jpg

(http://img259.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pc146833qc4.jpg)Here is a front shot of the case with the radiator mounted on top. I used extended motherboard risers to space the radiator from the case. By the way, YES that is REAL Ferrari Stallion emblem. It came off a Ferrari 355 Spider my Uncle use to own. Unfortunately it was involved in a rear end collision when some old lady forgot where her break was !!!! After insurance covered the damage, I managed to steal this emblem off the back before the rear was dismantled and sent for repair. I miss that beauty .. This is kind of like a dedication build for the 355. Ill make the best of it!

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/9516/pc146836mu9.th.jpg

(http://img522.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pc146836mu9.jpg)Top view. The fans really look great in all black. Those fan blades have a cool curve to them too unlike most standard fans.

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/67/pc146832sq2.th.jpg

(http://img522.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pc146832sq2.jpg)Here you can see two different types of wires hanging down. the red and black are for th fans. They are coming down through the top of the case using small holes I drilled next to the radiator. I used small rubber grommets to keep the wires safe from the jagged edge. Better view in other pictures.

http://img177.imageshack.us/img177/3195/pc146827te9.th.jpg

(http://img177.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pc146827te9.jpg)Here you can see the view from the bottom. The holes have c-strip rubber molding around them to give it a professional look and a clean finish. Also if you look close here you can see the red cold cathode light inside the radiator. It accents the radiator and really looks great when lit up. there is one opposite from it also. To fit the cold cathodes in. I CAREFULLY pulled them out of their protective tube they come in. Using clear heat shrink tubing, I put a layer around the cold cathode not only to better hold it in place but also to protect it from breaking. More on this later.

http://img156.imageshack.us/img156/7370/pc146821an1.th.jpg

(http://img156.imageshack.us/my.php?image=pc146821an1.jpg)Here you can see the wires from the fans going down through the top. I used small rubber grommets in the holes I drilled to clean it up and also to protect the wires from abrasions and cuts. All these wires will be extended to fit the fan controller bay bus and they will all be sleeved in non-UV red sleeving. The rubber grommets are just big enough to fit three 22awg wires and sleeving making for a snug fit and neat look.

I will take more pic's from now on and post more updates as the work comes along. Now that I have a place to keep a work log I don't worry about keeping a messy picture trail on my computer. I can keep them all here! :D Leave comments!

yeah... looking god so far... the old lady crashed into a farrari xDDDDD she must have been like... "oh f#ck!"

are you planning to sleeve the wires?... would look 100 times better, and why not have the fans pull air through the rad instead?... in that way you would get a better airflow in the case, and wont get as much dust in the raddy. and its more efficient and less noisy:)

thumbs up from here, always nice to see someone with the guts to tear a lian-li:D gl!

Morning guys! Yeah ide have to say granny was a but besides herself. Took her a few mins to realize what she or maybe just exactly what kinda car it was. But anyways alway good to have collision insurance! Well anyways, YES I am planning on sleeving it all. Most likely going to do the red color sleeving and yellow heat shrink to accept Ferrari colors or ill just get paranoid and do all red. One way or another all the wires will get sleeved. Ill actually be stopping by FrozenCPU's local store on my way to work and pick up some goodies. Pic's of that when I get home. And as far as it goes to tare into a Lial-Li.... Well lets just say it took me a full good year maybe more of thinking and deciding to be 110% sure before I took a drill bit to it. But ones you sink a black diamond drill bit in, theres no turning back and ill tell you its like a hot knife through butter! One of the best cases to mod in my perspective. Sometimes to get the results you want, you have to sacrifice a little and run with your eyes closed holding a pair of scissors! :lick: Just Kidding!! But let me know what happens if you do. Till then ill stick to my black diamond drill bits. Ill post pic's of those later today too! To be continued...

To answer your question, Ill have to go back in time. Ive built a few systems with radiators on top for friends and Ive noticed that most systems get warm inside. And all that heat tends to go straight up. What I dont want is those fans on top to pull that hot air out through the radiator because then I get a warm radiator and that's not good. The case is perforated all around so there is plenty or escape holes. Plus there will be one more 120mm fan in the back of the case and also at the bottom. This should take care of pulling cool air in and helping to push the hot out. Since its all going to be water cooled, the concentration of heat will be at the top main radiator. If during the process I find that its better to have it pull air out and up, Ill flips the fans over no problems.

Welcome to TBCS Urban!
(You don't work for FrozenCPU do you?, lots of plugs in these posts...) The project is looking swift so far and we are always excited to see new worklogs popping up so keep us entertained!! ;) As for the pics, I have always disliked imageshack, the photos take a long time to load in a new window and they are posted as tiny thumbnails that have to be opened one by one. Maybe you could try PhotoBucket? I have had great experiences with their delivery system. Glad you joined up and if you need any help I'm certain you will find lots of support here.

Hey JDBNSN! Yes I use to work for www dot FrozenCPU dot com. They are local and are only a 10 minute drive. I do work at a different facility now but I still buy 95% of my hardware from them. Great bunch of guys devoted to doing what they do! I recomend then to anyone looking to do some modding since they have staffed employees with YEARS of modding experience. Plus they do any type of modding you want at their facility. Well almost any. Also thanx for the tip Ill try PB for my image hosting.

Ok so today on my way to running some errands, I just so happened to have stopped by FrozenCPU and picked up some goodies! :D

Zalman ZM-MFC1 Plus:
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii251/urbanlegend_ny/PC166880.jpg

This is the front shot of the bay bus for the fans. It controls 6 fans and does it while looking good.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii251/urbanlegend_ny/PC166883.jpg

In the back you can see the 6 plugs (4 blue 2 white) no real difference btwn the blue and white. Also you can see the hefty heat sinks on those voltage regulators.8) It has a proprietary power plug but Zalman includes a converter. Also another problem I found with this controller is that if the fan you are running does not have the RPM sensor wire or the third yellow wire, then the blue/red LED's in the front will not work. This model MUST have the third yellow RPM sensor wire to allow the LED's to function. Not a big setback but this means that ill be replacing the top three fans on my radiator since they are only red and black wire no yellow. More $$$ down the drain.
http://i266.photobucket.com/albums/ii251/urbanlegend_ny/PC166882.jpg

I also picked up 20 feet of wire. 10 of black and 10 of red. looks like now ill need another 10 of yellow. Also I got some stick on zip tie wire management stickies. They work great and really help with wire management.

Thought of Day:
WARNING! If you are in the market for a Digi cam, DON'T and i repeat DON'T buy an Olympus. In particular the Stylus 600, they are nicely built but the software would make you think they were mass produced in china... oh wait they were.. Buy Cannon and you will never be disappointed. This is my lil review. Hope it helped!

Till next time,
UL_NY

Oh Oh but its so pretty! Yes very true I can run through a small relay and just power them wit the same power the fan gets or pull from the PICO but the thing is that the LED's change color after a certain RPM range and It would take simply too much effort to keep that option. Seems like the reasonable thing to do is just get RPM fans and use these in the lower part of the case.

I couldn't agree more about the cams. I bought my ex a Canon Rebel and it made ME jealous! Now I own a cheapo digicam (didn't even bother to memorize the brand) and it certain is a piece of junk.

That's good to hear man sounds like you've put some time into your case becaus emost people dont bother to sleeve the small cables and such. I dont know what I'll have time to work on my case again but i'm hoping soon it needs to get done. Also money is growing short so i'll have to take some time to recope.

Hello all!
Sorry there havent been any updates. I've been working so much overtime lately I barely find time to rest! I hoping to make it to my mod store and pick up some parts and continue modding but its been hard lately. By the way I have a Gigabyte N680SLI-DQ6 and 2 gigs of corsair dominator mem if anyones interested.. Is that allowed? Too tired to put it on eBay.. email me if your interested.. Ive had a constant headache for the past two days and its starting to drive me up a wall now.. Trying to think about what kinda mod I should do next.. Want to continue with the water cooling.. need to buy some pumps.. By the way I have a 5x8" area on top of my case to work with. Any ideas? Cant drill down because it will interfere with the 5.25" bay below. Too tired to think so leave some ideas and ill try to jump back on the modding band waggon ASAP!

We used to have a trading post, but had some trouble with it, and closed it down. You can put it on eBay and then put a link in the hardware deal section, but no direct selling/trading via the forums anymore.

OK fair enough I can see the reasonable point in that.. I guess an issue does arise. Ill Probably throw it up on eBay sometime next week as a bundle. See what happens..

Update!!
So early this morning (About 4:36am on 12/24).. I purchased a Sapphire Radeon HD 2900PRO Video card! It has 512mb, 512bit GDDR3 memory.:D The speeds for the GPU and Mem are not shown so I will not be able to tell you until I get it up and running. The best part is that I only paid $165 for it with free shipping from newegg! The video card will be cooled with the Koolance VID-290 Liquid Cooling Block. It was a hard decision since I was choosing between this and a XFX 8600GTS card with only 256mb, 128bit GDDR3 Mem. XFX is overall my fave choice for video cards. They have never let me down. But this was a hell of a difference in performance and more memory is always better! PLUS the ATI card was about $4 cheaper. So I ended up getting the HD 2900PRO! Ill post pics when it gets here.

Till then Cheers!

Oh and btw, I still need input on a good water pump! I would greatly appreciate it if someone with experience could guide me in the purchase of a good water pump. Preferably Eheim series such as Aqua Computers but I'm open to ideas so let em rip!

The Danger Den D5 variable speed pump is used and trusted a lot these days. A good Laing (I think that's how it is spelt) is also good. Basically the good Danger Den and Swiftech pumps are just re-badged Laing pumps anyway.

Well I'm a bit disappointed because only one of the two cards arrived today. I've been trying to get some benchmarks but its pointless with just one card. I'm planning on getting two Koolance liquid cooling blocks for them because the fans on those suckers get a bit loud. I've been playing some games here and there with the one card I've got and its just ripping through pixels like bullets through tissue! Can't wait till the second one arrives so I can get that %75 increase. Ill post some pic's soon as the second card arrives. Ive got no problems with nVidia but im going with ATI because they've never let me down plus there red which goes with my case theme.. More to come soon! Keep tight!

I've had great luck with ATI cards, but I've never used NVIDIA so I can't make a comparison. I know what you mean about the fans though, before I watercooled you could hear those two cards whirling down the hall. Especially during start-up, it sounded like a jet revving up for take-off.

That's what my 8800GTX sounds like. The fan doesn't start straight off then spins up to maximum speed for a second before the thermal temp sensor kicks in and adjusts the speed.

No prob at all guys! I like to read feedback its important for me too so I can make future decisions.. If you guys get carried away on a good topic then go right ahead ill read and ill stop it when i feel its gotten outta hand but other then that its good to talk about experiences. When I first installed the HD29 card the fan spun up so fast that it picked up some dust the motherboard and blew it out the back visibly! Maybe I should vacuume that out soon lol hasent been vacuumed since I got that mobo.. Ones the drivers were installed the fan speed dropped to below ambient sound and when not gaming I can barely hear it but when I get to gaming that sucker gets loud.. Deff not a HDPC video card. Ive noticed that the heat sinks on the cards get a lil warm. Might add an extra 120mm radiator in the back of the case just for the video cards.. Heres a pic of the one card in the mobo sitting on the desk because it wouldn't fit inside the micro atx case.. :p

Also This is the plate where ill be locating my water cooling reservoirs. As you can tell there are two 80mm fan holes in the back. Those will most likely be cut out and replaced with a plexi cover and two reservoirs inside. Anyone got any ideas on what kinda reservoirs look nice drop me a hint. Ive got an idea on what I want to do but ideas are nice. It has to be clear though.

You could fir two of these. With this one you could cut the grills off, mount the plastic then cut holes so these would fit.

You could also use these:
Alphacool Cape Coolplex Pro 10 External:
http://www.chilledpc.com.au/store/product_info.php?cPath=108_148&products_id=434
I like these reservoirs (they have bigger sizes) Same as the other res, use 2, remove grills and add clear plexi, mount these to the plexi on either the inside or the outside of the case (either would look cool), you can mount these anywhere.

The Coolplex has an advantage over the Bullseye. The bullseye is designed to be mounted with the front (plexi part) in plain view i.e. side panel, top panel or drive bay. This means if you mount is as I suggested you wouldn't see the coolant, they are also more expensive than the Coolplex.

That card is huge, I think it's about the same size as my 8800GTX (28cm). I like the red cooler cover with silver flame graphics, that's what I like about the current ATI cards.

EDIT: The Bullseye holds 197ml of coolant so two of them would bring capacity to just under 400ml, with tubing, radiators and water blocks full capacity should hit 1 litre if not more.
The Coolplex holds 150ml of coolant, two is 300ml, as with the bullseye the total system capacity should be around a litre.

I like the second tube style. Your right It wont be very visible from the back and I think that from the side is my best approach. I was looking as some tubes like that accept with clear plexi end caps too so i can just plexi weld the two pieces of plexi together. I will prolly go for a liter if not more of fluid. Ide rather have extra in the reservoir then not have enouth or let the coolant get too hot. Also I wna use one reservoir for just the radiators and the use the other reservoir to draw cooled fluid from the radiator reservoir. This will involve two pumps but the second pump that will move the fluid to the radiator and back to the reservoir will be much smaller. And as for the ATI cards.. well the red and the flames is mainly why i chose them plus i like ATI alot too.. Gunna draw up some templates for the holes so i can get them cut out soon..

Well they do make the ones you like in a 250ml version but I think they will be to long for your case. If you make your own you can make them as big as you like, if you aren't quite sure send a PM to tribaloverkill, he should be able to help you out a lot. If you want two reservoirs you should take a look at tribal's split res that is basically two reservoirs in one tube.

Ive got SketchUp running right now im gonna sketch up what ive got in mind and get a basic idea. From there we can decide what will look best.

Here is what ive done so far in the back plate. Ive removed the grill and made it just two holes. That's where the reservoirs will go. From there I will make two plates 80mm by 80mm and onto those plates, reservoir tubes will be glued. Heres the sketches so far.

PS. I hate Googles SketchUp I think it sucks compared to AutoCAD thats on my other computer. Don't expect many more sketches in SketchUp. I wont be making them.. Ide rather draw by hand then use that ****ty program.

I like that idea, sounds simple enough and should look great, especially if you are using red coolant, from what I have heard the coolant that Danger Den sells is the reddest you can find.

When I worked at FrozenCPU I got the chance to be around allot of modding supplies which gave me allot of good ideas. one of which was how to color the tubing without compromising the cooling fluids integrity with coloring. Now I don't know if its original or not but I haven't seen anyone do it yet. So if credit is due then heres my idea. Now when we have wires all over the place what looks nice is to sleeve them. right? Well what about the tubing? What if while using my 1/4 inch tubing, I just so happen to put some sleeving around it too. Trust me it looks sweet! Ad since il be using Innovstek's coolant I wont have to worry about block corrosion because their fluid is the only fluid on the market with a patented anti corrosive heat exchange fluid. So that's my idea. Sleeved tubing. Ill get a few pics up of what I mean so you guys can get a better idea. Ive never personaly seen it done so I hope its original. And if not and I just missed something then ohh well itll deffinetly be a rare occurance! 8)

Ok so today I sat down and made up a sketch of the reservoir that I will be building. These are rough sketches and will include some extra holes for LED's. Also around the flat part I will be using SMLED's (surface mounted). I will drill in a recess and epoxy the SMLED's into the side of the plexi.

Let me know what you guys think. There will be two fittings in the back of the tube. One most likely will be capped or an LED and the other will feed the pump. The single fitting in the front of the reservoir will be for the inlet from the radiator. I have a good bunch of guys locally that run a CNC shop and I will try to get a bunch of parts CNC'd there. Yes I will be making more then two if I can get them to CNC for me. Use two keep some for backup/future projects and maybe sell a few. Who knows but this is my plan so far.

OMG twins lol, should get fantastic performance out of them. Your tubing idea sounds great, I can picture i now.

On to the reservoirs. I like that design, from what I can tell you will be mounting them on the existing fan holes. Depending on how long you make them they may interfere with the system components. I think it would be best to mount them vertically and make a cool bracket to hold them. You will save space and see more of the coolant/reservoir.

Well the reservoir holes can always be moved too. If the holes in the back end up being vertical then the bottom hole will be a plug with an LED and the top will feed the pump. If horizontally, then the two inside holes (one from each reservoir) will feed the pump. The tubes are gonna be 6 inches long which will give me tons of room for the PSU which will be right under the reservoirs.. I don't like that way that sounds too much but it'll have to work. The way the back plate is designed, I can flip it over and make it so that the reservoirs are on the bottom. Either way I'm fairly contempt with the design. Another design I'm thinking of involves a single reservoir that splits up into two 80mm ports. That will be what I make if the tubes fair to please me. Also there will be ALOT of fluid in this system. and I'll be adding an extra radiator to the back of the case right above the reservoirs. Gonna get some pic's of the sleeved tubing in a bit.

Ok so here is my idea for tubing color. Since I will be using none color fluid for performance reasons, I will add color my way.. Ive had this idea for quite a while now and have never seen anyone do it so I'm assuming this is original.... and if its not well i still win... here they are

well... they are very silent when u use the resistor that makes em go 5 volt, but ive heard they werent so god at pulling air trough a radiator... but with that rad i think u should have a pritty heavy heat system to overheat:P

so i like them:P but there is fans that are better i guess... and they are kinda expensive xD
someone adviced me Nexxus D12SL-12... they should handl backpreasure well:) but sadly i cant get em where i come from...

I know what you mean. I hate how fans are either expensive and noisy, expensive and quiet or just cheap crap. All I want is a pair of 120mm fans that push 60-75cfm, are only 20-25dba loud and only cost me $20-$25AUD to buy. From the limited range I can chose from I am looking at the AC Ryan fans ($20AUD each) or Antec Tri-Cool ($30AUD each), I am leaning towards the Antecs because the fans have a built in 3 speed switch which I have found useful with the fans I already I have from the series.

Plus its got sweet batteries and an LED to light up the work surface! Not bad for a $200 drill.. Ill show you some pics of my black gold carbide tip drill bits. $75 and they will drill through just about anything.. Well accept superman of coarse.. 8)
