I really do hate to be "that guy", but we had this sort of thing going on before (people ranting etc) and the admins (and myself iirc) politely reminded you all that this is a case modding website, not a soapbox.

Now, I'm not trying to be too abrasive, and don't get me wrong, we do care, but as the admins have said before, if you want a place to rant, get a blog or something. It's not hard to make one, it's a place for you to rant, and it doesn't clog the forums. Put a link to it in your sig or something, and there you go.

I find this true. The people who blog on popular sites like a news site juust piss me off(never been to one but sometimes they show the responces on the news)

I mean really, i dont need to hear from some pissed off middle aged single loner woman who is pissed that her favorite american idol contestant got voted off when im waiting for that one news story they hook you on every report that seems interesting.

I agree if your just ranting for the sake of ranting.

If you have no where else to turn and this forum seems to be your only sanctuary, I have no beef against it.

I find this post to be largely useless and unrelated, mainly because we're talking about two different things.

I'm talking about here, on TBCS. People need to watch what they do here. The admins have said (before you showed up so you probably haven't seen it) that TBCS should not be a personal soapbox for people because that's just not the type of site we are. The rants and complaints about life subdued for a while, but they're back now, and they're just about as useful as they were before.

It sorta has to do with it. Im saying i dont like rants in general.Unless its a rant about sonething is broken and how to fix it. Thats fine since it has something to do with computers.

Yeh, but your thread was comical and related to computers (and I didn't really think it was ranting). I'm talking about keeping blog-worthy stuff in the blogosphere and keeping forum-worthy stuff in the forumosphere.

The way that you related our arguments was tangential and proves no use for the intended purpose of this thread.

Ha! I TOTALLY knew this thread was going to show up here sometimes soon with that exact title. I was actually going to create it myself... but I didn't want to be "that guy". Thanks Omega! :D

But no seriously, you guys need girlfriends or something. ..if your married, then you can post here about your daily issues all you want for all I care. Funny how that works. When you are dating someone, you tell each other everything. When your married to someone, you yell at each other about everything for a couple hours, call it good, and go to bed. ...then again, I have a feeling that my parents aren't the perfect couple (cough football star married most popular girl in school cough) lol yea.. apparently "hey, your gorgeous!" and "hey, thanks!" was all it took to get these two hitched. lmao

So theres my rant for the day as well. Sort of a combo "enough with the rants" and "why the hell am I not popular, a football player, or good looking" (like my parents were at least). Must of been that wildcard gene pool or something... my middle name is after my great grandpa afterall. *sigh* skeletal white skin and slightly red hair is not very attractive at all...

I put my rants in the form of a blog and I never get any real input. I have... probably two, maybe three, people that read them. The more personal stuff I leave out by PERSONAL CHOICE, but the tech stuff I put in. It helps talking to people, it really does. Holding it in or saying it but getting no response isn't helpful at all... that just serves to make you more and more stressed and eventually explode. Just my view of it.

Ahh, society. How you pressure people into ignoring problems they have and just dwelling all together in a craphole. Hence why I avoid you. Let people speak their feelings and help them improve their mood... don't smack 'em on the face and tell 'em to f*** off because that doesn't help anyone. Living here is a group/team effort. Everyone should start treating it as such.

I agree with Omega. Let's not let these get out of hand again guys. I'm not handing out infractions or anything, but I will start locking them if needed.

I will refrain from posting personal information/things. Simple.

My thread I only tagged it as that because thats how others were being tagged. I could have worded it all as a question on what to do, then have slowly let out though multiple posts and no one would have known the difference. I understand the point, so I will not do it again.

Just perhaps then the description for this section of the forum should be changed from
Just post whatever the heck you want, within reason. to "Just post whatever the heck you want related to pc's and modding".

I completely understand, simply didn't know.

Perhaps a suggestion, less it is there and I overlooked it. Instead of waiting for rants/personal things to occur, then creating a rant on one's own...maybe someone should add something to the rules section?

Just a suggestion though. :D

EDIT: I'm staying out of this as well.

But I'll just say this: I don't believe this is an issue that needs to be added to the rules.

I would say that it is more of a suggestion than a new rule (from the way I see things, i'm stating this as an opinion and not a fact) but this IS the offtopic forum. Whatever.

Looking at the front page of Chatterbox, honestly nothing directly pertains to modding or pc's, and isn't in a rant type fashion, except Microcenters post.

Everything else on this first page could be considered "useless" although I've seen plenty of admin/mod posts. People are interested or entertained.

Actually going through most pages, most everything is useless.

The line is way to fine I think, and is interpreted differently by different people. Technically anything with a negative tone could be interpreted as a rant. One could find a subject that is negative or a rant that interests them, so there wouldn't be an issue. Yet a subject one doesn't care about would get flagged as rant and bad.

How is a post about riddles, or what drink you like, or your photo, any less "useless" than any of the other posts around? Its only less useless because it interests you or someone.

I love the riddle thread, but is it useful in any way to modding or pc's. Simply "No". If anything it distracts us from what the site is about, modding pc's. We can't be modding while we are answering riddles. This isn't the only thread, this pertains to every thread I went though on chatterbox.

What it comes down to is that a person doesn't want to look at or hear about others problems or issues or ideas or whatever at the time, and dubs it as useless, when in reality, just about everything posted in this section is useless.

Im not justifying my post, or anyones for that matter. Just under the notions put forth about what is considered bad or useless, just about every post falls under that category.

Edit: And I can see why no one thinks it belongs as a rule. Because it is so vague. Just about everything in this section could be deemed as useless. Posting a rule would have to make mods/admins determine what was useful. And that isn't possible to be fair in doing.

Like I said, I will refrain from my post/any like it. Just expressing my ideas here. lol

Actually... isn't it a bit hypocritical to talk about how people need to stop posting rants in the form of a rant?

NightrainSrt4: That makes a lot of sense. Riddles, Rants, Videos, Random News Articles... they're all in the same boat. So if you punch a hole in the hull, they all sink, not just one of them. No life jackets on this hurr boot, yeh kin?

I think the issue is to keep it to a "dull roar" lol. And Keep pertaining threads together.

You can't limit speech under a rule/suggestion that negates everything. It just doesn't work. And its not fair to put admins/mods in a position of devil's advocate.

Thats why I won't post another like it again. But you damn well believe i will go trying to solve those riddles :p. But really, how different are the posts.

Some people will find riddles just as useless as a post about towing or drives not working, or beef jerky, or whatever...

Edit: As for the clutter issue, how about one rant thread to combine them all. Seeing as how they are all useless and they all are under the same premise: Frustration, life, stupid stuff :) This doesn't discriminate topics, and yet keeps all the "useless personal" stuff together in one place where if someone is looking for that type of thread knows where to find it.

We're not saying that it's useless personal stuff. Believe me. I've posted personal stuff before, job announcement, purchasing my house, birth of my daughter.

It's just that there was an issue some time ago with the forum being cluttered with rants, and the same thing happened. Some members were unhappy about it. All we're saying is let's not let it get out of hand.

I can play the other side of the card as well. If you dont' feel like reading rants, don't click on the link.

No matter what, this is still a great community, and I for one, am glad to be part of it.

I only meant useless as it didn't help modding/pc etc, as was the way I thought the word was being used earlier as well.

I think the best thing would be to make a thread called "Rants" or whatever. And everytime someone wants to post a rant like subject throw it in there. People who want to help peoples issues or whatever can frequent that thread, and posters have a SINGLE place to post that stuff.

This way the forum doesn't get overrun with personal threads. They are all in the same place and it doesn't create clutter on the "same" type of issues.

Got a rant type thread, add it to the content in the Rants thread. Easy to find if it gets burried. Just search Rants.

I think this solves most all of the issues. People who don't like rants only have to deal with one thread getting bumped to the top not a whole page of rant threads. And if someone posts a thread that should be there, mods don't have to worry about the content, just delete the thread and have the poster put there, or add the content to the Rant thread. Think it fits everyones bill...does it not?

Anyone else like this idea?

Most of the _last_ round of rants were, depressing, life sucks, no purpose to go on, sort of rants, or creepy medical stuff that I personally do NOT want a visual image of. Most of the rants I see here this week are similar and I feel that I started it with my rant about the Trainee's I had on site. I tried to keep it entertaining and comical with no creepy visuals...

BTW: I am married (for over 18 years now) and I have NEVER yelled at my wife (unless she was in the other room and Hockey was starting...GAME ON DUCK FAN!). I have way too much respect for her to go that path. And yes, it was love at first sight.

I think sometimes people need to talk to others about issues in their life. This community is so good that we can do that without negative feedback and that can help others out alot. I for one know. I felt like **** this morning when I quite my job but after talking with some of you about this I feel better about what I did. Im sorry if that pisses people off that I need opinions or support once in a while. Now, I can see complaining about the next hit video game not releasing yet but lets be honest. In general, are most of the rants like that?

Im done.
