As of right now, who are you leaning towards with the current selection of presidential candidates and why?
I know its a bit early, kind of, but I've been reading up quite a bit this past month or so. So I don't know, I'm just curious to see what you guys are thinking I guess. Most of you guys being exceptionally bright individuals, should be interesting at the very least.

No poll... Zephik failed.
Well, I'm more interested in what you guys have to say, rather than numbers. So no ACTUAL poll, but more of a "I'm polling you guys on what your thinking currently" or something and another.
That, and I didn't want to look up EVERY single candidate and put them up as an option. lol
Btw, the "quick" part was to lure you lazy bums here. :devious:

HUCKABEE! (http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Issues.Home)
And that's exactly why. Although I believe in pro-choice up to a certain "age." (I don't believe a worm is a baby.) My main reason for this is only because there are MANY...MANY slutty, irresponsible, ill prepared, immature, etc etc people (not necessarily kids) getting pregnant and I believe it's better for that worm to not be brought into this world by those dumb ass people.
NOTE: the ones that fall under one or more of those categories^
I am also athiest and it annoys the hell out of me when god is brought into politics.
I really just want the boarder CLOSED and the illegals OUT. Criminals treated as criminals.

Anybody but Hillary Clinton. She is so damn annoying when I hear her stupid voice I want to lock my head in an iron maiden, and stone myself in the front yard.
Yes, I don't like her :D.

I can see this ballooning into a brash political argument, so I am just going to keep quiet.
I have no idea who I would vote for, but I bet it wouldn't be a republican candidate. They have mostly all picked up the party-line (except huckaby- I kind of like him) and have quickly gone from good and moderate to pretty far right with mostly all the same idealogies on iraq, abortion, and cutting taxes and benefits of living here.
But on the other side, hillary (whom i see no fault with, seems like a normal democratic nomination, but i am sure i would learn to hate her along with the rest of the country it seems) while nobody seems to like barack or any of the other of them either.
Huh- seems as if I did share my views... but I am not into politics that much (not old enough to vote anyway) and the system in america isn't really what we think about who should get the presidency anyway, its about what we tell our representatives to vote for is who gets presidents (and they aren't bound by our decision, they can vote for anyone they want, we could "vote in" barack obama, but if everyone in congress just loved bill from bill and teds excellent adventure, they could vote for him in the presidential college. And he would be president. How messed up is that? heh heh... yeah.)
Okay! I have no idea what is going on in this country! i just watch cnn, with a clear liberal bias instead of fox! maybe i am not thinking about anything at all, but am just picking up what another person is laying down! I DO NOT KNOW!

My political views are pretty strange (I've been described as everything from a communist to a republican to a libertarian), bu here goes.
I like to base most of my views off of the Republican/Conservative ideals of the smaller government and citizens helping citizens, as well as a government truly run by the people. I like Alan Keyes' speech that he gives (which is a video on his website) about restoring the true government.
Where I disagree with republican ideals is when the issues of abortion, gay rights, etc. come up, because my beliefs aren't rooted in religious morals. (as I don't acknowledge a specific entity, agnosticism ftw) That and I find it a little hypocritical when the same people that are saying that we need to remember that the constitution says "All men are created equal" and then they go on to say that homosexual couples are destroying the fabrics of society. What I am trying to preach is TRUE equality, without the barriers of race, sexual orientation, age, salary, anything. I say that the rights that a white, straight, married male living in the suburbs with his wife and kids making 50k a year should be the same rights as everybody and anybody else. With one exception.
This exception is illegal immigrants. As non-citizens and criminals by default the moment they step foot on American soil without the intention to legally immigrate, they deserve no rights (except a swift deportation). Legal immigrants? Welcome to America. Illegals? GTFO basically. By being here, that's one law broken. By working, that's at LEAST three. And yet the government throws the CITIZEN'S tax dollars at them. It boggles the mind, really. I know somebody's going to take the "We were immigrants at one point" approach, so I'll say this: That doesn't matter. What matters is now, we're one of the largest nations in the world, and we have an issue of millions of people breaking our laws, reaping our benefits, earning our money and not contributing to society.
The War: I couldn't give a crap either way. The enemy's horribly ambiguious though and I kind of see it as throwing money at a lost cause, but I'm sure there's a logical reason for it so I won't argue.
Gun control: Guns should have less limitations put on them and the general public should be encouraged to own, know how to fire, maintain, and keep guns.
Separation of Church & State: Something that should be upheld imo, in so far as we don't get a government-run church like the UK/Brits/Whoeverthehell. If somebody's moral system is rooted in religion, so be it.
...
I could keep going, but I won't.
Basically, if I could vote... It'd probably be for a Republican. I've yet to scope them all out, so I don't know which one.
I myself want Dennis Kucinich, but he has no chance against the big name candidate though. Rightnow I suppose I'm leaning towards Obama, though I haven't settled on anything yet.

This thread has me thinking on my previous votes for President:
1996: Ross Perot
2000: Ralph Nader
2004: Ralph Nader
A family friend (who happens to be one of those ultra conservative types) called my Nader votes "protest" votes.
My personal take on it (in 2000 anyway) was that he was the lesser of SEVEN evils on the ticket (Montana had Republican, Democrat, Green, and 4 independents recognized that year). Here's the funny thing (and not much was ever said nationally about this either): Nader won 8% of Montana IIRC. His biggest slice of the pie in any state.
Sounds like a lot until you realize that Montana has less than a million citizens, doesn't it?
Edit: FWIW, I was raised in a conservative voting household. In fact, with the exception of Jon Tester, my House/Congress votes have gone to Republicans, as have my State Government votes. A serious question: does this make me 'middle of the road'?

@Omega. I'm just going to copy and paste what you said for myself. We have pretty much the same views. I guess we're just cool like that. ^_^
I'm going with Ron Paul by the way. Not because it seems to be the latest internet fad (although, that is pretty much how I was introduced to him, digg is getting retarded with him lately, but with good reason I suppose). But because he honestly seems like the best choice imo.
Here is a small quote, it doesn't sum up the reasons why I'm probably going to vote for him, but its the first thing that I read about him that turned me on to learn more about him.
He has never voted to raise taxes.
He has never voted for an unbalanced budget.
He has never voted for a federal restriction on gun ownership.
He has never voted to raise congressional pay.
He has never taken a government-paid junket.
He has never voted to increase the power of the executive branch.
He voted against the Patriot Act.
He voted against regulating the Internet.
He voted against the Iraq war.
He does not participate in the lucrative congressional pension program.
He returns a portion of his annual congressional office budget to the U.S. treasury every year.
If you want to know the reasons why I'm probably going to vote for him, I'm not going to tell you, because I wouldn't be able to do it any justice. But you can do what I did, check out his videos. I particularly like his @Google (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yCM_wQy4YVg) speech. Its an hour long, so save it for when you have the time. You can actually skip the last 10-15 minutes imo though.
Anyways, you can get to the goods about Ron Paul here (http://www.ronpaul2008.com/issues/). To be honest, I can't imagine someone else becoming president after watching basically all his videos on youtube and learning about him through his website and wiki. To me, he really does seem to good to be true. Just my opinion though.

As a Canuck, I have no clue wtf is going on down there. Personally, I'd love to see either Hilary or Obama in there just to see what happens. A woman president, or the first non-white president.. hmmmm
How about this Obama and Oprah scandal? Kinky!

This coming presidential election will be the first I will be old enough to participate in. The last one I just barely missed.
I will have to do some research but, even with that, I never feel confident in any of the candidates. No one truly speaks for the people. No matter which one wins they aren't going to uphold half of what they promised. I can never find a point in choosing one when within 2 years, they contradict most everything they were supposed to uphold and cherish when they were in the running. Sometimes it seems futile and pointless to me.
I've been thinking more and more about moving to another country. Not because I don't love America. I do. Or atleast I did. I don't know anymore.
During Clinton's duration as president I was too young really to understand much of what was going on. Bush senior, I was but a babe. And W. Bush has left me confused and lost, and honestly making me question my faith in my country.
Ive seen my friends go to war and not come back. I've had friends go into the war believing in a cause, and coming home and questioning their president more and more, but would never say a bad word because he was their leader, so they have to believe in the cause. At one point I was going to go into the armed forces to find out for myself. I was stopped by my medical condition, and my family as well, many of whom had served in years past.
I love the freedoms my country allows me. But I do not believe in many things we are starting to stand for/become.
To me, this country doesn't speak to me the way it did when I would sit and read the constitution and other historical documents. Leaders spoke to me by what they DID. What laws were past, what freedoms they gave us. Now, all I see are politicians wearing masks, just waiting to be elected to take them off and slowly derail from the path they lead us to believe they would walk. I am afraid to chose a leader. None of them seem to follow what they promise to do.
I don't know.
Honestly, most days I just sit confused.

Who ever wins has a 90% chance of being hated anyways. If I could vote It would be Rudy Giuliani.
Im not going to explain why, as you can just read up what he supports and the majority of it I support, plus I need to scrim on css D:

I think the war was a big mistake. The terrorists were in Afghanistan, not in Iraq. I think our president just wanted to go to Iraq to finish what his dad started.
Personally I hope that John Edwards will be our democratic candidate. I think he will be the only one with a chance against the republican candidate. Obama sounds too much like Osama. Most people will also remember the embarrassment that Bill Clinton gave the country.
The thing I like about this place, is there seems to be a healthy dose of both conservatives and liberals here, yet we all seem to get along well and it's a loving community.

Is it possible to be both conservative and liberal? and republican and democratic and just about everything else for that matter?
I always seem to agree with everyone. Maybe not on every little thing, but for the most part.
If you took all the mascots and combined them, that would be my mascot. ...lol its all deformed and freakish looking...
It's possible to be whatever you want. You should never limit yourself to one ideal or group. There's no need to apply a label. Ideas can change, opinions can form. You're still an individual person, not bound to one man's rules.
