I seen the one for the Q6600 and have searched google but it seems everyone is using after market whatever to cool. I am too poor for that and just wondering what temps I should worry about.
CPU- 2400(stock), at 2424
FSB- 1066(stock), at 1077
RAM- 1066(stock), at 1077; 5-5-4-12(stock), at 4-4-4-12; 2.2-2.35v(stock), at 2.375v
I have the Nvidia monitor set at 60*C which when running 3Dmark03 hit and closed it out.
Running Intel TAT (100% both cores) it was running about 65*C

Does seem a wee bit hot. I suggest you get hold of some thermal paste, and remount your heatsink, or save up for an aftermarket cooler.
Whats your airflow like, make sure there is decent air flow to bring cool air in and remove hot air.

I have AS5 on it and I don't think I overloaded. I was able to spread a thin layer across the cpu. Unless I don't have enough?
I have 3 case fans. 2 mid(intake) and 1 rear(exhaust). Plus the PSU and gfx card exhaust. The case fans are about 5000RPM and move about 113CFM. At idle the cpu is 49-51*. Running Sandra Lite it peaked about 54*C during the CPU testing.
Thanks for the quick response
***update***
Took the front of my case off and was about 2-5*C cooler running TAT 100% on both cores. The temp rises and falls quickly, once it peaks, it just sits there. After stopping TAT, the temp quickly drops back down to 49-51* within a couple seconds.

if you want a inexpensive cooler get the arctic cooler freezer 7 pro (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835186134), its only 21.99 it works great too:)

Don't worry too much about it, TAT is usually way off. It's not designed to be used on C2Ds (it's made to monitor laptops).

If you look at the screen shot though, it is only 1-3* off from the Nvidia monitor. Right now I don't have 22 dollars for a cooler. I don't have to overclock at all. For what I do, it isn't necessary. I was just wondering what an ok temp would be for this processor since nobody oc's with a stock hs/f apparently. lol
Thanks guys.
3DMark06
3DMark Score 8116 3DMarks
SM 2.0 Score 3470 Marks
SM 3.0 Score 3640 Marks
CPU Score 2176 Marks
Peaked 62*C at the beginning, then ran about 55-58*. Ran the log in TAT. The temps seem to only be a few *C then the Nvidia monitor.

Some people do OC with the stock cooler, but it is just for fun and not really permanent. If you want to OC, you'll want a new cooler, and just to be on the safe side, probably a temp. probe. That will be very accurate. I'm thinking of picking one up myself.

That's pretty much all I was doing it for for but didn't know what on "OK" temp was under load. I was looking at some larger heatsinks.Compared items on Newegg (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=40000574&Description=socket%20775&CompareItemList=N82E16835185037%2CN82E16835109015% 2CN82E16835118020%2CN82E16835154002%2CN82E16835124 017%2CN82E16835186134&page=1&bop=And). I am not worried if there are any LED's or not since I don't have a window(yet?). I did put the freezer pro 7 on there (as Spawn said is good) but don't know if I want it for the trouble installing it. Sounds like it is hard to get the tabs turned under the fan. I have "fat fingers and don't want to have a clip not secure. I don't want to do a water cooling just because of the maintenance and money needed for a decent setup. Some of the heatsinks listed above may not clear the northbridge on the 680i (from what it looks like). If anybody has used any of the above on a 680i or know for a fact that it will/wont clear, please let me know. Also if there is something better somewhere else, please let me know. I could probably get one of these as a "christmas present" for myself. :D One way to get the wife to approve. lol
Also, so I don't have to make a new topic, does anybody know about temps for the EVGA 8800GTS 640MB (not SSC). I bought this in Feb. Just noticing the temp was breaking 70*C. I was thinking of putting some AS5 on it but read that the heatsink didn't match up perfectly with some of the RAM chips so they just globbed? on the thermal paste. I don't wan't to risk running hotter or frying a chip due to that if it is true. Any truth to this?
Thanks for the help.
If interested, this is the case I use. you can use AS5 on the gpu/core of the card and on the second one on the left of the gpu/core. just reuse the the stock pads on everything else.

The Kingwin and AC should work (AC WILL work), the Tuniq might work, and the Zalman probably won't work.

If I put the hs/f off the card though, shouldn't I re-apply some thermal paste? Can I "glop" on some AS5 or would that cause issues with the silver in it? I think I still have some generic thermal paste which can't be any worse then the crusty stuff that is probably on the card now. Thanks.
Thanks .Maleficus. I was thinking the same with the Zalman, and like I said with the AC, I don't know if I would want to chance it with not being secure. I don't have a problem spending money on something that works (like some of the passive coolers that are $50). Do I wan't to spend that much, no, but if it works that much better then a $25, I will.

when you take off the heatsink clean off the old stuff from only the gpu core (look like this (http://img509.imageshack.us/img509/6771/corelw3.jpg)) and the core (looks like this (http://images.techtree.com/ttimages/story/80561_core.jpg)) to the left of the main core.
i am pretty sure those two are the only things that don't have pads on them. just replace it with AS5 and it will be fine, its like a cpu, just don't put a massive amount on.

Before I really looked at this thread, i ordered the ARCTIC COOLING Freezer 7 Pro 92mm CPU Cooler.
I also have an eVGA 680i, so if your willing to wait a few days, Ill get the package and install it and see how well it clamps in.

oh sorry, i never fully read the post before, i have both the 680i and arctic cooling freezer 7 pro and there are no issues with it hitting anything, just remove the fan then install the heatsink and put the fan back on. here is a picture of it on my board.

Cool. Thanks! +rep... did you guys do any "before and After" of the cooling it does? Like I said, I don't have a probablem paying more for something that cools better.
Thanks again

not sure what temps where before as i never used the stock cooling, but here is what my temps are using coretemp and prime95 for load temps.
Idle 44C
Load peaked at 59C but was mostly 58C.
Celeron 3.11GHz @ 1.272v

I didn't, but that's because I had a Blue Orb II before I got the Freezer 7.

^^ did temps improve over the orb?

I didn't check the temps when I had the Orb.

Last night I was messing around with cooling. I took the side off and put a 8" desk fan next to it. On high, this thing sounds like a turbine, guessing it's spinning about 6000 RPM, if not more from what it sounds like. At idle, I was able to get it down to about 41*C and running 3DMark06 about 61*C. BTW, this was back at stock speeds except with the slight over volt on my ram to run at 4-4-4-12 (2.35stock, 2.375)

Regarding Freezer 7 Pro: I was just looking at Core Temp, and with 100% load on both cores (running Orthos, and after 1 hour) I was at 54C. I'm idling now at 43C. Not bad considering I'm at a 900MHz OC. I'll give you some temps tomorrow when I get this running at 3.4GHz again.

Sorry, been busy with the Holiday and all. Did you get those temps? :D I'm still here. lol

Sorry man, forgot about this :D.
I wasn't stable at 3.4GHz, I need more voltage which I don't want to give it. I'm at 3.375GHz though, so this is what I'm at.
Load: Hanging around the 53C range
Idle: Hanging around the 44C range
