Just wonderd what the max and "normal" temprature should be on the memory?

During memtest86 I measured my ram temp to 50 degrees C (122 degree Fahrenheit) This was at the outer ram sitck so I guess that its a bit hotter in the middel of them. And the case was open.

I have two TwinMOS PC3200 DDR-DIMM 1024MB Dual Pack's running at 400mhz 2,5-3-3-7@2.60V(or 2.65V, cant remember)

i dont know what a safe temperature for ram is, but i know you shoukd not have your case open and run it at the same time.

Theres nothing really wrong with leaving your case open ive had my computer running for the last 2 months witht he case open since i have insufficient cooling. The only problem is dust and you can fix that easily...

leaving your case open creates pokets of dead air, possibly frying your pc. Its not likely but its a saftey percaution.

Measuring the temprature with a case open for 5 min shouldn't exactly kill the pc. ;)

well ive never had any probs at my freands shop. he fixes comps and the case is open when its running all the time. sometimes hours np.

Might I ask what a "pocket of dead air" is? I run my case open ALL the time (going on a year now) and I've never had any problems.

I used to leave mine too...the only problem is that it doesn't have as much of an effect as you might think since the airflow gets messed up. Runs cooler than stock though.

the real benefit of having the case closed is that you dont accidently damage the parts inside. you can not get "dead air" in an open case (although this is a common problem on closed (and cheap) cases mostly do to manufacturer's design oversights) since the heat of the computer parts as a whole causes convection currents to form in the air and that would create a constant flow of air through the case. its effectivenss is nominal at best since the main sources of heat would be the cpu gpu and powersupply. all of which would most likely be actively cooled by fans or some other means.
