at least in the eyes of my girlfriend.

For months she has been wanting to adopt a cat. She volunteers at a cat adoption shelter/clinic every weekend and has been wanting a cat ever since her dog passed away. But... our apartment doesn't officially allow pets. The lease states that you need written permission from management to have a pet. This is so they can allow pets for medical conditions and the elderly. And pretty much thats it. The ad when we got the apartment months ago stated "NO PETS".

I promised her for Christmas months ago that I would get the information for her to have a cat.

So off I went to polish up my social engineering skills. Got the rent check ready a week+ ahead of time(its not due till the 1st of January). Baked me up some brownies. And headed down to the management office. Gave them the check. Then pulled out the brownies. I had softened them up to this a few months before by seeing how they reacted to cookies. They loved them. So I knew I had a chance here. I cracked a few jokes about why I put them in ziplock baggies and not wrapped up. Then I brought out the big question.

She looked at me like "ahhhhhh", and told me that they normally only let people who have medical conditions and such have them. I said "ohhh" and dropped my head a bit. I told her about how the girlfriend has wanted one and that I wanted to come and do things the right way. To ask for permission. I pointed out that the lease just said I needed written permission.

Needless to say, I got permission to have a cat. When we are ready to go down to the clinic Jaqui works at I just go down and she will write me up permission to bring to the clinic.

I told the girlfriend just now. She was in the shower. Now I am covered in water from her leaping off the bathtub ledge at me like a flying squirrel. But through my wetness, I am extremely happy as this might just be the best Christmas gift I have gotten her.

Merry Christmas everyone(or whichever is your chosen holiday!), as I probably wont be around tomorrow. Hope everyone has a great few days. Hope everyone can make someone as happy as I have. It is an amazingly good feeling.

Anyone else get that great gift for someone special to you that you wondered if it was even possible?

I told the girlfriend just now. She was in the shower.:pics:

Heh, nicely done. :bunny:

My sister works at Woodgreen animal shelter (http://www.woodgreen.org.uk/) and loves cats. Her hubby recently allowed her to bring home a third. If it were up to her she'd have a houseful.

I didn't have the camera with me when she jumped at me lol.

Thanks. It really is a big deal for us because she thought she'd never be able to get a cat here. It is a huge load off of me as well.

Lol that has yet to be seen. I just finished wrapping all the gifts and printing pictures for the families. Off to cook up a ham and some mashed potatoes for us among other things.

Anyone can feel free to post any great gifts they got for anyone. I know there won't be much till after tomorrow though, for fear of the person seeing the gift here before they get it lol.

Well, I didn't really have to pull any strings for it, but I got one of the girls at my school (whom I'm quite fond of at that) a leather jacket (I overheard her saying she wanted one when she saw me in my leather trenchcoat one day), when she opened it it's like she latched on to me like a lamprey or something =D

I wasn't about to complain about her jumping out of the shower at me though ;)

Heh heh. That's awesome dude. Cats are pretty cool... if my mom wasn't allergic to them we might have one... or twelve.

Ya, we are pretty excited. It will be nice to have a little guy to come home to. Seeing as we live a couple hours away from our families now. It will be nice to come home to something that loves ya and shows affection and such.

Yeah. I think my favorite family member has to be our dog, lol. He doesn't nag or anything, just wags his tail and goes to take a nap.

I would like to get a dog someday, but its just not manageable in an apartment. Less I could teach him to never bark, and to go in a litter box

A cat is much more apartment friendly in our case. I can't wait. It will be good to see her happy. She has been pretty down since I told her we couldn't have a cat here. Now she is happy

Her happy = good for me :p

Nice dude! Always good thing to make the gf happy. Its great when a plan comes together so well like that. Not to mention now the landlord likes you as a tenant, thats worth something too.

This thread is full of win.

If things were different (house instead of apartment) I would have gotten my wife a lovable mutt from the pound this year. None of that puppy mill BS for me, thank you very much.

However, I did manage to spark some modding interest in my wife's uncle. We share a love of old video games (along with computers!)...and I'm going to leave it at that, as where we're heading with this idea is somewhat murky water.

Well, it didn't take long for Jaqui to find one she would fall in love with.

She went home today for a doctor's appointment tomorrow morning and they brought her to a friend of the family who's cat had kittens like 9 weeks ago.

Apparently she found a little black short haired kitty (female) that she fell in love with. She seems so happy. I am very happy my Christmas gift turned out well for her, and us.

I will get pictures up asap once she and the new baby gets home tomorrow afternoon!

You guys will have some pictures soon.

Well I got to see her this afternoon at around 2pm. She is the most adorable kitten in the entire universe. Within half an hour she had fallen asleep on my chest! Gosh they are so unbelievably warm, its crazy.

She cleans herself often, so thats a good thing, as I have seen some that weren't very cleanly. She also went right in the litter box right away, first time i put her in it. She is great, and I love her.

I named her Haley, after Haley's comet. Something that is great and wonderful, and yet only comes once in a lifetime (for most people). But for the most part she will just be called random cat nicknames anywho :p

Here she is:

These were quick snaps by the girlfriend. I will try to get some better ones once she settles in. She seemed quite scared of the flash so we didn't use that yet.

But not to forget our other baby! A Great pic taken by the girlfriend of our oldest baby, Alb.

Thanks guys. She is adorable. She slept on my chest for a couple hours. So warm, its crazy.

Now that she has slept she is all awake and is into a playing mood, so shes been playing with me for a while. She has already taken the tour of the apartment, checked out my modding area, and aparently didn't find anything she was interested in as she hasn't been back since.

Her favorite spot so far has been my chest and behind the couch.

Awww, this thread made me smile. It's nice to see someone out there who cares about there GF enough to sweet talk people into letting her have her wish lol.

The pictures of the kitten are so cute, I used to have a cat, even though I'm allergic. I still miss her =(

Thanks. Jaqui loves the kitten to death. Haley is so cute and so amazing.

One of the best things is she LOVES computers. So far I have caught her exploring two of my works in progress. First she was crawling around inside Project Alb. By the time I could get the camera she had hopped out.

Then today while I was in the shower Jaqui found Haley in my other rig. The whole rig is intact except the power supply because I was using it on another project. So the only way to get in was through the empty whole in the back where the power supply was. Apparently jaqui found her in their with little head poking out the back. She was standing on the Heatsink poking her little head out. I asked her if she got a pic and she said she was too worried about Haley cutting herself or something that she just wanted her out. :(

One of these times I will get her while she is in the act of exploring the pc's!
