Currently I have a Kodak V603 and it's been great. Recently I went to my daughter's winter concert and was very frustrated with my crappy zoom, so now I'm selling (http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230206606504) it. I played with the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LZ7K (http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Customer-reviews-for-Panasonic-DMC-LZ7K-Digital-Camera-Black/sem/rpsm/oid/179789/rpem/ccd/productDetailReview.do) at the store and was blown away with the zoom. It's only a 6x, but it's still very good. The zoom to tiny things and to things very far away are clear and concise. I just bought one online for $130.

What camera do you have and what's your opinion?

I've got a Panasonic DMC-FZ8 (http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonicfz8/). I havent got a huge amount of use from it yet but its quite a nice camera. The only thing that annoys me is the little joystick thing for manual focus

Nikon D40. I spent about $650 on everything when I first got it.

Here are two examples of photos I've taken with it.

Canon S3 IS - 12x Optical zoom
Canon 5D

The S3 is a good little camera, with an amazing zoom on it.. the only catch is the sensor size is quite small, so if you are shooting in low light, you get either grainy photos (high iso) or blur (low shutter speed).

5D = $$$$$ so its amazing. Even on auto it'll take great photos, but get into the manual stuff, and prepare to blow people away.

I have the Cannon PowerShot S3 IS as well. My wife uses it more than I do. I purchased a SanDisk Extreme III 2.0 GB memory card for it and she says that it makes the camera perform better.

Yes the Extreme III is the fastest available on the market right now. The classes I, II, and III are rated by the speed the camera can save a pic to the card and be ready to take another photo. I just bought an 8GB SDHC Class III for $55!

Canon PowerShot A40 (http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/a40.html). Point-and-shoot with a manual mode, two-megapixel. Good enough, especially since it was free.

Backup camera's a Kodak EasyShare CX4230 (http://www.steves-digicams.com/2002_reviews/cx4230.html), which is also a 2-megapixel camera, but doesn't have nearly as many features.

Yes - I still use a five-year-old camera. They were free (one picked out of the trash, the other given to me two years ago), so I can't complain.

The Kodak's got a standard 128MB SanDisk SD card; it takes a while to save, but can take another photo while it's saving. The Canon's almost instant with a 1GB Lexar CompactFlash card (Platinum II), and for that matter, it was back when I had a Toshiba 128MB... which died.

For serious photography I use the Fuji Finepix S5700 camera I got for christmas. It's a semi-SLR because my parents couldn't afford a full SLR, but it's great. I'm still learning my away around the controls, but so far the quality is great, fast response time, very clear images.

For happy snaps and everyday used I bought a camera just in time for new years, a Samsung L730 in red. It's damn sexy, and although it takes a while to save photos, it's 7.2 megapixels, shake reduction, massive LCD viewing screen, and it's small, perfect for taking out.

Some low rez webcam... after I move out and get settled I'll probably get a real camera.

For a late christmas present I got a Sony DSC-H9 8mp. It absolutely runs circles around my previous camera: a completely outdated 4mp Minolta.

Its got a 3" LCD that can flip around, has amazing 15x Optical zoom, and a lot of other features I am loving.

I haven't taken any cool pictures with it yet, but when I do I'll post em here.

Olympus E-volt E-500 digital SLR. Absolutely amazing piece of machinery, no doubt seven times the camera I need but who knows what the future will bring? :)

I have:

$200 generic 3MP camera. It's ok, suited for sunny days, the picture quality is ok, a little bit grainy, but it doesn't take much to clean that up.

Samsung V4. 4MP camera which is automatic or semi-manual. Proberly my favourite camera. Picture quality (when I use it proberly) is great. Photos require no clean up.

Olympus FE-210. 7.1 camera which is fully automatic, there is no options to change except for the picture quality. Picture quality is very very noisy, I'm not sure why, I may email to see if it's normal. I'm semi disappointed. I've found that the in built panorama feature only works with an official Olympus xD card. I found a little trick to get my camera to think my Fuji xD card is an Olympus card. Lots of clean up required.

Canon Rebel XT dSLR. I spent about $500 when I got it a few months ago. Picture quality is great compared to the Canon SD1000 which I just bought my gf for Christmas. Point and shoots are great for most occasions. But when I take pictures I need higher quality, because I'm fussy.

I probably never would have switched from film if they didnt change the way they were developing photos into a digital process. I just always felt digital was worse quality than film. Until I used my dads Canon EOS20D. Then I made the decision to switch.

My favorite camera I've had was a Canon Powershot, the picture quality/zoom was great. And it worked beautifully for my needs, it was stolen a couple of years ago though, and I've been using a Sony Cybershot 6.0 Megapixel since then, and I'm honestly not too pleased with it. I mean it works ok, but I've never been happy with the clarity of pics with it, esp in auto mode.

I switched from Kodak to the Panasonic Lumix LZ7K. It has a 6x optical zoom and 7.2 megapixels. I could zoom in on fine print that's 20 feet away and read it clearly.
