I took my time with this one (lotsa layers Scotty :) )

http://www.thebestcasescenario.com/jdbnsn/wallpapers/new8.png

I would like to share an opinion of mine about art with you, keep in mind that this is my opinion and should not be thought of as correct or incorrect.

If at any point in your creative career you can't find the answer to any of these questions...

-"why should I do this if nobody likes it?"

-"why should I do this if I'm not as good as everybody else?"

-"why should I do this if it doesn't make me any money?"

-"why should I do this when there are lots of programs on television I could be watching instead?"

....you should go back to mowing lawns, watching sitcoms, or whatever it is that fulfills you and brings purpose to your life.

Hope you like the wallpaper ;)

-Jon

I have often asked myself all these questions. In fact, I pretty much gave up on music because of them.

I realize now that the answers are of course different for everyone, but the just of it is "do it for yourself".

Keep up the good work Jon. One person's views do not reflect the views of the entire community.

I took the "grainy" layer out because I thought it looked a little cheesy and covered up some of the detail on the panels, it looks clearer now.

Thank you. If you want to learn my advise would be to just start trying. I started using photoshop a year ago making front page article for this site, when I look back at them I cringe at their lameness. I've definitely gotten better, but as I look around at some of these other artist's work I see I am still an amateur. The best way to learn is practice and listening carefully to constructive criticism.

Also- Even though the images in that picture may appear highly complex, you'd be surprised at how easily they can be made. It's definitely an illusion to make it looks difficult, but in reality it's not that complicated.

Yup, I could never actually draw something like that. Photoshop makes lots of things possible, however that particular picture was rather tedious.

I use CS2, I tried CS3 and didn't see enough difference to spend that much more. I actually have a copy of 5 I think which I bought years ago. If you want to pay postage you can have it.

I know it's old, but you can still learn alot by using it and it's free and comes with a tutorial disc.

Dont' hate on 5. I used 5.5 For a looooong time before I switched to 6. Also, I've used CS2 and 6 (and 5.5), they're not hugely different. If I didn't have 6 atm, I'd get that disc in a heartbeat.

Believe me when you use alot of the new features CS3 brought and all the new shortcuts and stuff put into CS2 and CS3 from CS there is a big difference in work flow.

Thats why its a pain to use 7.0, alot of the features it doesnt have that CS3/2 have and most tuts are made using them, so im stuck trying to make effexcts that i dont have the features to do.

Nice stuff, true what Omega said about photoshop. The only copy I have of photoshop is 6 or something thats installed on a win98 laptop. I can't afford better versions.
