So about 5 months ago I bought an HP DV9000 with a 17" screen, Athlon Turion TL-58, 2GB RAM, 120GB HD, GeForce 6150. I still love it, but an opportunity has come around that I would be stupid not to get.

My in-laws are in town. They're the ones I built the SuperBee PC for. My mother-in-law visited me at work and expressed interest in a laptop, more specifically a 17" one.

There's an insane deal on a Gateway M-6824 (http://www.notebookreview.com/default.asp?newsID=4149) right now. The specs are Intel Core 2 Duo T-5250, 3GB RAM, and a 250GB HD, ATI Mobility Radeon HD 2400 XT @ 15.4 inches. It retails for $1049. The one we have in store is the last one, so when selling a display we subtract 10%, plus my discount is 10%. That's 20% off! But here's the real news: there's a $400 mail-in rebate!!

So, it'll be $845 in store plus TAX. After rebate it'll be $445!!

What we're planning on doing is selling my current 17" laptop to my in-laws for $400 making my new laptop only $45!:eek::eek:

I have a Gateway M-6817, got it in August. It has specs just a little bit under yours. Basically a toned down version of the same thing. Same processor, 2gb of ram, the graphics is the main difference i think. I like it a lot, the media card reader has come in handy more than I would have though. The biggest issue is that the finish can scratch a little on the easy side. Really wish I had the ATI graphics because I game a lot.

I like the finish too, but hate how quickly it gets fingerprinted to death. I love the media card reader also because my SD card locks in under the spring tension just like in my camera. I've found that other readers that just have to card pushed in don't read as well. I have yet to test the graphics.

Yeah, the card reader is nice works real well have used it with a few different cards.
I also like the screen casing real solid and it protects the screen well, much better than my ThinkPads. Can tap the back of the screen without disturbing the lcd most laptops have a slight ripple effect. I generally prefer ThinkPads because of the great compatibility but this is well built other than the smudgy surface, also got a few small scratches.
