I'm typing this from my laptop (brownouts + blackouts = bad for the pc) and all I can say is that blackouts are freaking annoying. We've had two so far today. And it's only 9:30am. I'm about to go to bed for a few hours just to pass the time (no pc = nothing worthwhile really) before I have to vacuum the house (please god let the power be out THEN) and carry wood upstairs (sadly power doesn't affect this).

Anybody else going through annoying storms atm?

Move out my way. I'll make sure you have power.

Feel your pain Omega. 6"+ of rain overnight and the big storm is just now coming ashore. The power at my house has been flickering on/off all day (according to the SO since I am at work) and now she tells me that we have a tree down closing the only road into my 'hood. The neighbors are looking for me to help them cut it out of the way. Hehe too bad I am warm and dry at work. Free firewood anyone?

Sounds like it's time for a neighborhood bon fire.

Remember the east coast blackout little while back...

ya, I was on a plane when the power went out.

It took 4 hours after landing to get off the plane.

After that large Ice Storm we had.. we are still cleaning up. Its supposed to be nice this weekend so I will probably have to spend all of it with a chainsaw cutting up more tree limbs.

As for Power Outages, I hear ya! Its only been a month since we went 8 and a half days with out power. Luckily I was able to snag a 5550W generator so hopefully we won't need to do that again..

Yeah, I need to get a UPS or something. Or two. One for the network equipment (a small one, they don't take much power) and a huge one for my rig. Power flickers? No big deal. =D

EDIT: I also basically spent the day sleeping, woke up and the wind + rain is gone for now so I figure I can use the PC for a while, but the moment the wind picks up I'm going to go back to the laptop (which is right next to me, on already, charging). That sucks because the laptop doesn't have working speakers. =p

Ah well.

Quick update;

Power was finally restored to our little housing community last night. Crews came up from San Diego (and other places) to help with the mess. They were great and once they found the problems, they quickly fixed them (there were several issues). It helped that our little 'burb had already removed the fallen tree's and cleared the debris for them so they had plenty of room to work. The residents were practically fighting for who got to offer them warm drinks and hot snacks! They even moved their trucks a couple of times to let people in and out (we live on a one lane mountain road...).

GREAT WORK PG&E! THANKS!

Power ROCKS! (and heat ain't bad either)

My area is a disaster zone at the moment, it snowed who knows how many inches last night. My power just got turned back on. It snowed so much and so thick and so wet that it knocked over power lines. The snow plows are still going at full force, they don't really even stop, they just refuel and head back out onto the streets.

In other news, my younger brother had a snow day today. Not that big of news, but around here, thats impressive. We don't really believe in snow days, I guess. The last one we had was the Ice Storm of '96.

In news that annoys me, my generator is the spawn of satan and I'm pretty sure its possessed by evil spirits. I miss my Honda (http://estore.honda.com/pe/asp/landing_nodealer.asp?RefID=PE&RefModelId=EU3000IS&ProductSeriesId=P4GG_SUPER&ProductCatId=P2GG). Man, you talk about quiet, those things were a whisper. I highly recommend them for those of you who are in the market, they're amazing generators. They're also good investments in that if you ever need some quick cash, they sell pretty fast on craigs list.

Good luck to anyone else who is caught in this snow storm!
