Well, while I'm just sitting, staring at my empty desktop, I keep getting pop ups from internet explorer. Even when I'm using firefox, internet explorer magically opens and I get even more pop ups. I also Installed my newest copy of McAfee virus blocker and firewall and it just happens. For some reason, all of the pop ups are about office supplies.

This should probably be in fix it shop but I'd start by checking your processes. How many do you have running? Screen shot perhaps?

It may be spywareGet SpyBot. It searches and destroys sypware. It won't hurt to do a manual virus scan and see if there is anything that might not belong. Hey at least the pop-ups ain't porn. (Happened to my grandma.)

Go to www.grc.com and run these apps:

Shoot the Messenger
Unplug'n'Pray
Discombobulator

Then go get Spybot search and destroy.

http://security.kolla.de

These are all free apps too, so no worries about that.

Make sure you get all the updates for Spybot, and try to run it in safemode if you have troubles.

Download a program called "Ad-aware" it helps a lot in finding spy-ware and other such things.

I've also found that if you go through your processes, find the process that you know isnt legit, and open up your registry and find all of the strings attached to that process, your paralyze it.

Moved.

Can't really add anything other than what the other guys are saying. Sounds like spyware to me too. Follow their advice, and you'll get it fixed.

The weird thing is, my virus scan isn't picking anything up, but anyway, thanks for the help, I'll be sure to take all your advice.

EDIT:
Now, my firewall is asking me a bunch of questions.

Application Wants access to the internet
The program kernel.exe is requesting access to the internet. Do you want to allow it?
Path: C:\programfiles\kernel.exe

Application Wants access to the internet
The program b122.exe is requesting access to the internet. Do you want to allow it?
Path: C:WINDOWS\b122.exe

They seem suspicious, are they? What should I do?

"KERNEL viruses target specific features of the programs that contain the "core" (or "kernel") of an operating system (3APA3A is a DOS kernel virus and is also multipartite). A file infecting virus that *can* infect kernel program files is *not* a kernel virus--this term is reserved for describing viruses that utilize some special feature of kernel files (such as their physical location on disk or a special loading or calling convention)."

Yeah---It's really not the end of the world.

I would also recommend going to:
Start-> Run-> MSConfig go over to the Startup tab and remove anything that you KNOW is not manditory for system boot. If you have any questions about any startup processes, please post here.

Best Regards,
Casey

hi,
kernal.exe is a trojan as shown here (http://www.justtext.com/processes-tasks/kernel-exe.html) and spybot should remove this.
b122.exe is also a virus, here, (http://www.greatis.com/appdata/d/b/b122.exe.htm) but again spybot should remove this. Is your anti-virus software upto date as i would have thought it would detect at least one of them.
