Ok, I have lived with my grandparents while attending school. They have this old router (don't even know how old it is). i think it is an old school US Robotics router. Well, lately It's been getting annoying since my auntie would always complain that it is either slow, or the internet would just go on and off (im sick with the cold, i can't think straight). So if any suggestion I would like to thank you guys for the time you've spent reading this. Thanks

P.s. before i forget, i am willing to throw in $50 for the new router, don't know how much my auntie will throw in. Oh, it has to be able to go through at least 5 walls and be able to give wireless internet to about 50feet. I hope that isn't too much to ask for. Thanks once again.

Don't go with linksys. Everything I've bought that was made by them only works intermittently (i.e. my crapass wireless camera, a cable router from them, and a wireless router that I couldn't even get set up.) I would go with D-Link if I were you, specifically this one (http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?skuId=7650455&st=d-link&lp=1&type=product&cp=1&id=1134699413343).

It works pretty awesome and seems to go farther than my stupid linksys one. It also costs less and looks cooler.

LinksysŪ WRT150N Wireless-N Home Router (http://www.officedepot.com/a/products/323762/WRT150N-Home-Router/)

If you need the range Linksys wireless-N for $10 more. (I haven't checked reviews)

Matthew

ps checked one review:

The good: Linksys makes setup easy for newbies; great throughput at long range; offers the latest security features; low price for an 11N router.

The bad: Linksys scaled back the warranty for this product to one year.

The bottom line: The Linksys WRT150N is a great router option for those who want the range improvement of 11N but don't need the other features--or the steep price tag

That's Draft-N. You might want to avoid it for that reason. I don't get how so many router making companies are getting away with calling that the new N when in reality it's only almost the new N... :p

If you just need to get a signal to one computer without running wires, how about a couple of these (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=250201330038)?

It functions. Enough said. The draft spec is almost finalised and any subsequent changes will be implemented in the router firmware releases. All products based on the N spec are clearly labelled as being based on a draft spec however they have been on the shelves a long time already. Absolutely no reason at all to avoid it.

Set up is easy with the CD's they come with and Linkys has better security than D-Link

I had the linksys draft-N router, and although it worked great for me, it wasn't a great match for the rest of the family. Having it set to long range worked awesome with all my wireless cards, but many of the families lower end wireless cards, some of which from different companies, did not work at all.

Turning the router to mixed did allow all the cards in our family to work correctly, but the router did not have any more range than our old router. I played with the settings for a couple days trying to get it just right. But in the end, if you wanted compatibility with other brands/lower end wireless cards, you had to go mixed and not get any of the range benefits.

Great router if you get the N cards from linksys, or have a high quality card. But other brands cards and lower end ones simply would not work/work well on long range setting, rendering it useless for the rest of the family.

Just my experience with it. Get the right cards and its awesome. Don't and your no better than the WRT54G that can be had for 39.99 some places on sale.

Your local Best Buy may have some. If I recall correctly when I used to work there they carried a few Buffalo products, not sure about if they have that particular model or not.

If you have a BB or Circuit City or something around you can always check. But newegg might have better prices, who knows.
