As I'm sure you've noticed, I'm adding alot of new features to our forums. Many of these are things we have wanted to do for some time but the bugs and tweaking the new site had taken priority. Since I have been able to get most of that taken care of, I am getting around to adding these features to give them their day in court. If they don't work out I'll remove them.
I just added two new BB codes for you to use in your posts, a google tag and wikipedia tag. When you surround a word with either of these tags if makes the word a link which will be automatically searched by the respective search pages instead of members having to open the pages and manually search.

I seem to recall someone requesting expanded profile pages with the ability to add media and other info, am I correct or was I trippin on orange juice? If so, I'll see what I can do.

Isn't that something Dave has lined up for his test site?
Regardless, it sounds like a cool addition.

Glad you like the new features guys! I've been wanting to try some of these out for a long time. I've just added one more until we get a universal media player installed, google video.
Below is a picture of the icons so you can get a good look at them, they might not be so obvious because it's tough making a picture that small that looks like anything but a squashed bug. Starting on the left, we have the same youtube tag as before, next is the google search, then wiki search, then ebay search, then google video. Enjoy.

EDIT- Maybe next I'll install a couple of billion smilies ;)

Oh, I forgot to mention this. I am considering trying something that might get me in trouble. We have never allowed avatars here because frankly they are tacky and look stupid. Most of the TBCS members I have met are perfectly capable of expressing themselves with their articulate nature and well composed ideas rather than a little picture of Master Chief or Darth Vader playing air guitar. However, that little avatar switch has been sitting there just asking for some attention so I propose this. I'll activate the avatar option and provide a list of every national flag that is in my library. Then you can post an avatar of your national flag ONLY. This would be a cool way of seeing where everyone is from, or for people like me who know less than Jack about flags, it will give us great conversation starters ("what flag is that?").
What say you?

I know this is getting a bit piled up but bear with me, I'm going to get a newsletter type announcement which clearly explains all of the new features but I wanted to list them here first (probably so I don't forget). Two more additions, a quicktime movie BBcode, and now when you post a reply using the "go advanced" option, there is a field available for you to directly upload your photos through imageshack. The option is also available when you are starting a new thread. This should be a huge convience for some of you using imageshack, but honestly I haven't tested it so if it doesn't work let me know.

I added two fields to the profile section and I cannot test either of them. Can someone test them and verify that they are functioning? If you have a myspace or deviantART account, go to the right side bar and click "userCP". Then, while in your profile, click "edit profile" on the left side. At there very bottom of the page there are two fields to add your account #'s to and an icon/link should show up in your posts. Thanks.

On the "All videos" front there is a php mod for simple machines forums that automatically parses all video links and embeds them on the page from the http:// link with no BBcodes. It's really safe because it stops all scripting etc. Here it is (http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=977) - maybe you can mod it to fit :)
"Features
o Supports 50+ Video clip sites
- 123video.nl, Aniboom, AOL Uncut, AtomFilms, AtomFilms Uploads, Biku, BrightCove, CellFish, ClipFish.de, CollegeHumor, DailyMotion, Dave.tv, dv.ouou, ESPN, Gametrailers, GameVideos, Glumbert, Godtube, Google Video, Guba, Hulu(US Only), IFilm, Koreus, Libero.it, LiveLeak, LiveVideo, Megavideo, MetaCafe, MSN Live/Soapbox Video, Mofile, MThai, MySpaceTv, MyVideo.de, OnSmash, Revver, Sevenload, Stage6, Streetfire.net, Tudou, Veoh, videotube.de, Vidiac, VidMax, Vimeo, VSocial, Yahoo, Yahoo HK, Youku, YouTube (including Playlists)
o Safe from security standpoint
- They can't just embed ANY object hosted ANYWHERE, it only works for trusted supported sites.
- Properly validates/sanitizes/parses the video id before including it in the url
- Disables script access (allowScriptAccess="never")
o Use bbcode to prevent links being converted to embedded clips
o Hard-coded limit to number to converted links per page (to prevent flash overload/browser crash)
- Only applies to links converted by this mod (not other video clip mods)
o Disabled for Printer Friendly pages
o Disabled for Signatures"

As a matter of fact, that is exactly what I was looking for tonight. Thanks! There are a couple of diff systems that work similar to this and make integrating vids into the forums a snap regardless of the format (to an extent) and i need to sort through them and figure out which is going to fit the rest of the layout well. I haven't even figured out how I want to build this video section yet but in the meantime I can switch to the broad range player. I placed those BBcodes there because they are a snap and I wasn't sure how long it would be before I actually got the other stuff going. I'll look into this one tomorrow, I think I've had enough for tonight. Thanks again.

EDIT- I just noticed that the creator shares my last name, I guess I have to use it now :) It doesn't seem to handle iFrame but I am not sure I want to do that after all, i have no idea what security risks are involved with that.

Thanks, I thought it might be cool to try. I'm not a fan of social networks myself and have been banned from deviantART for some reason so I cannot test these functions. But i wish someone would so I would know if they are working.

Account numbers for myspace? I tried adding both my screen name and the direct url to the bottom. There's no link though, I'm wondering; will html code work there?

There should be a numerical ID# somewhere on the page, it may be part of the url actually.

I don't think this is compatible with vBulletin, and I have tried 4 others that are and none of them have worked at all. I'm not sure why either because installation is rather straight forward and I followed the directions to a T. We do however have many customized templates which may be interfereing with the software but I don't have time right now to figure out a work-a-round.

That's too bad, I use AllVideos on my site and it works great.
