I've got a quick question. Well, actually a few.

Has anyone ever tried to disassemble a Dell Optiplex GX60? I picked this up at a garage sale a few months ago, brought it home, booted it up and it worked great! I was hoping to use it for my mod project, but I looked inside and went... :?.

I'm used to regular towers and such, but this is a really slim one. It's got some funky ribbon cables too. They're not the normal ones I've seen.

Oh, and if anyone needs any pictures of the inside or any other information about it, I can post it here.
Thanks!

Okay, Pictures are added in.

(If anyone needs better ones, just say so.)

Edit:

Well, I think I'm just going to go for it. After looking at it for a good long time, it actually doesn't seem all that hard.

So I guess we have 2 Omegas now.

Can I put in my request now to ban any Gr3co101's? :p

Anyways, I'd definitely go with a paint job... I really can't stand that black on gray anymore after seeing hundreds of them haha. Someone did a white on gray(black?) version a while back and it looked amazing. I'll try and find it for you but no promises! :D

Couldn't find it...

since you have pictures i would start by pulling all the cables out and then look for the screws and take them out.

If the ends on the ribbon cables are the same as standard ones (which it looks like), then go ahead and replace it with a normal one.

But yeah, I agree with the above... just pull all the cables out, then start disassembling.

Yikes ... :hurt:

After taking out the ribbon cables, I noticed something. Due to the slim CD-Drive in front, there's special ribbon cables for them. So, I've got to keep them. (At least for the CD-Drive and Floppy) But, the HDD has a standard ribbon cable that can be replaced. Also, I think the USB ports and audio port in front are also run off of standard ribbon cables, so those could be replaced too. So, it's not all that bad, I guess.

Oh, and thanks guys for your ideas! I do plan to do a nifty paint job for it and probably a window. Lighting too, of course. My worklog is coming soon. :D
