Well, I'm new to map making period but thankfully I have a little bit of 3d animation under my belt so the software so far seems pretty self explanatory...at least from what I've seen in video tutorials.

Basically, my goal is to make a private "mod" which is taking a lot of the maps from Delta Force: Black Hawk Down and turning them into CS:S maps. It's going to be quite time consuming, especially being new at it but to me, it is definitely worth it.

Anyone here experienced with map making? I will pay if needed... I'd really like to get a couple maps done asap. preferably this month.

Please don't PM me about it since I often don't noticed I have messages until days later. Post here and let me know what screen shots you need, how much your asking, and any other information.

Ahhh graphics, the hardest part of game making (IMO). Coding is one thing, I mean, I can work out all the logic and get it working great, but getting decent looking, functional animation and modeling is a whole seperate ball game. Trust me, I've spent countless hours with modeling and jME getting sucessfully nowhere, and then about 6 hours in my VB class with 2D Adobe Fireworks drawings and a fully functional game. Such is life with no proper training with 3D apps.

What software are you using? Hammer? I've never used it, but it looks similar to the UT3 Toolkit, which I've played with briefly. Other than that, the only modeling I've done is in Blender or 3DSM... Unless you use the entities from within the toolkit, you'll have to model things like trees, huts, etc...

I can take a bigger look into it, but honestly, I don't have time right now for this kind of undertaking. Especially modeling them to be like a level already (and for a game I don't have). To start out, I'd just make a level themed like a Black Hawk Down level, and gradually start modeling your favorite levels of the game.

If you don't already know this, download GIMP. You'll be able to make waay better textures for this style of level, and higher res for bigger maps. You'll need to make sand, dried mud, all sorts of stuff that I'm not sure that Hammer has.

Good luck man .

The maps are relatively plain. Here are a few snaps:

You should be able to make something like that no problem. Is this an older game?

... The only long part would be modeling all the buildings. But it can be done.

Ya, it's pretty old... Came out late '02 - early '03.

fun as hell though. It conflicts with my rig though... at start up, one core jumps to 100% while the other ones idle... can barely move my mouse around! So I'm trying to "take the game" to cs:s.

Novalogic Delta Force Black Hawk Down! One of my favorite FPS's of all time. That has a really good map maker. You just place buildings down on pre textured height maps. I have made loads of maps for that game. Those maps will be hard to make in CS:S as the maps are very large and you will have to draw up all the buildings and the land.

damn...

It really is the most fun FSP I've played so far. The graphics aren't too great (maxed out in those pictures...) but they definitely do the job. The game play just can't be explained. The maps are awesome... counterstrike type gameplay but the maps are extremely different. :o(
