A nice man in a yellow truck from DHL dropped these off today.

http://img408.imageshack.us/img408/4961/image021nb4.jpg

A Q6600, Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3P, Gigabyte 8800gt, Corsair Twin2x 4096MB 2x 2gb sticks and a Antec True Power 650w psu.

The 8800gt turned out to be a good deal as it came with NWN2.

I already have a nice Lian Li case for all this along with HDD and optical drive to go with it. I am gonna mod the Lian Li a bit so stay tuned.

Yay more overclocking haha. Nice order mate, I am looking forward to this mod of yours.

So interesting times. I opened up the Lian Li case and found it had no mobo tray in it. I bought it in Singapore 6 months ago and they must have taken the mobo tray out. So my dad bought me an Antec 900. I love my parents so much. I guess I will now mod this case some . Might do something to the top of it. A little character LCD mod.

After the case problem was solved. I spent six hours putting my system, together there must be a problem with the mobo or the ram as it doesn't boot at all. No post just powers on for a second then goes off. Completely re put together together the system and trouble shooted the whole thing part by part. At least the seller will give me replacement parts.

That sucks about the Lian Li mate, they are fantastically versatile cases. The Antec 900 is a great case as well, you can do a lot to them.

Look and see if the heatsink was making contact with the CPU... I had a similar problem and that was the problem. It wasn't making contact so the computer would only stay on for up to 15 seconds.

It was making contact I reseated it. But the computer would only be on for a second. I hate the Intel boxed heatsinks. I don't trust the push pins. I would rather screw something down.

When I was putting my heatsink on I was worried about snapping the mobo in half... those pushpins suck.

I'll try to think of what else the problem might be...

Try booting with one stick of RAM (sometimes furthest slot from CPU works only) Then you need to update the BIOS and stuff.

If you can access the BIOS make sure that your RAM and CPU are getting enough volts. Check what the boxes say.

If that doesn't work, remove the RAM then turn it on, if it beeps it has detected there is no memory, so shove it back, then try the same with the video card.

Also make sure all the power cables are plugged in and that your CPU fan is too.

If your using Vista the first time you boot the PC you can only use 2GB or RAM. I had that problem while making my brothers PC. When it boots past BIOS you can switch off and install the other 2GB or wait until the install is complete.

I tried all that Scotty.

I never even go the system to post so the OS didn't matter.

+reps all round

Could be a powersupply, CPU, or motherboard issue.

Have you tried resetting the CMOS, sometimes that helps.

sometimes motherboards have problems with higer voltage ram, and you have to stick something low voltage in then set it manually in the bios

It's Alive!!!!! Yah!!!!!

Yeah so my dad drove like an hour and got the place I mailed ordered it from to look at it (Don't I have great parents). Apparently the intel supplied heat sink was bad. Boy is that something to watch out for.

When my dad got it back home it was doing the same as before and I was like .

I furiously switced the psu switch on and off and kept pressing the power swtich and it booted sixth time. Like starting a chainsaw. It mostly now boots first time. Sometimes though it boots second try.

I have gone through and made sure no cables are loose. Any other ideas maybe the thermal paste needs to heat up and spread across the cpu a bit or something :?. I will report back on system temps when I get windows installed. So far eveything seem to be running pretty cool. Due to the great cooling of the Antec 900.

Windows is now installing so a big thank you to everyone for your help more reps+ for every one.

maybe you should get a better heatsink and eliminate that variable. Good to hear that it's running now. Thanks for the +rep

Yeah he swapped it for another intel stock one. At the moment I don't wanna tempt fate and touch it.

When possible, change the heatsink. I truthfully didn't bother with the Intel HSF. But that sounds like a bit of a worry.

All those push pin coolers are bad, they bend your mobo like a banana. I will be glad to remove my stock Intel cooler when I finally get around to water cooling my rig.

crenn

Also with heavier heatsinks, the push pin design isn't effective... the weight of a Thermaltake Typhoon VX was greater than the strength it was held on by. It fell off the HSF during transport.

Nice stuffs! Looks like you about to have a sweet setup. Soon that will be me getting a visit from the delivery man except more of the AMD/ATi variety, I just need to place an order.

It could have possibly been a heat issue, or the CPU spiking because of the crap ass heatsink, i didn't even get the Stock Intel HS out of the packagin for my build, same with my GTX, i stripped the cooler right off.

edit: your rep gave me my second light green rep box yay :)

Yeah the intel heatsinks are dodgy. Are there many after market heatsinks for the GTX allready?

Well that is what happens to helpful people. :)

Also the computer now seems to boot first time.

Scotty has water cooled his 8800GTX (like I will be doing shortly) so there are heaps of 8800GTX blocks or adaptions on the market. I know Zalman makes an air cooled cooler for the GTX and you can get an additional RAM cooling plate or they have a passive cooler of the same design. Thermaltake also make their DuoOrb that from what I have heard does a fairly good job, they based their up and coming CPU block on the GPU coolers design.

Scotty

Yep, watercooled ^_^

There are many blocks out and heatsinks, remember its over 1 year old now, unlike the GT.

Just a bit off topic, what temps do you get on your 8800GTX Scotty?

Scotty
01-17-2008, 01:16 PM
Idle 45ish, load under 60*C. Unless my room is really warm, most of the time my room is around 20-22*C.

Anyway, back on topic.

The boy 4rm oz
01-17-2008, 07:12 PM
Thanks mate, I was just wondering cos mine is at around 60*c idle and hit 90*c in a 3DMark06 test. Just seeing what it should be like with W/C.

Back on topic.

K just off topic again, i uber clocked my card. 660MHz Core, 1500MHz Shaders, 2GHz RAM ^_^ For 15mins load on ATiTool artifact scanning it hit a max of 70*C. That was with fans on 5 v, every fan that is. Upped the fans to about 7v temps went to about 67*C. Lovely tbh, gotta 3dmark it, and crysis to check its stable.

As soon as i touched 666MHz on the core it artifacted, im scared, i think the devil has possessed my card. But that explains why i pwning all these n00bs who think they're god.

GPUZ confirmed (http://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/3ncp7/)

Very nice, I hope to do some overclocking once my system is all done.
