ok guys. The wife has screwed up and gave me permission with some tax money to rebuild the comp and make it future proof. So that being said the only thing I really have for a limit is less than a $1000. I have decided on the board, proc, and the other pieces and parts but have still yet to reach a decision on the memory for the system. The parts are as follows.

MB- Asus striker extreme intel skt 775
PRC- Q6600 2.4 quadcore sckt 775 G0 stepping
Opticals- Asus sata dvd-rom and Asus sata DVD+/-rw

I already have the hdd's, a 800watt ABS power supply, Zalman 9700 cpu cooler. and dual 8600gt 512mb cards. So.....my next decision is which ram to go with. it's either this set of G.Skill http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820231122

or this set of crucial http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820148070

or 2 sets of this crucial
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820148076.

As soon as i figure out the memory then i will be good to go. Thanks guys

The G.Skill ram would be a good choice, if you set it to a 1:1 ratio, you can proberly get your Q6600 upto 3.6GHz (depending on cooling). Depends on how much RAM you want. I would say only get 2 sticks max unless you don't plan on overclocking.

my original was the ocz and I plan on overlcocking. My main question is whether or not to get the 2 2gb sticks of ocz at pc6400 or the 2 1gb sticks of tracer at 1066.either way one set is coming home with me.

How far are you planning to overclock? It's choice really, the 2x2GB of DDR2-800 still provides some good overclocking ground.

Striker Extreme + Quad core = failure in overclocking.

You could get lucky but most people have issues pushing 3GHz. A mate of mine bought one last week, then sent it back because he couldn't get above 2.7GHz, no matter what he did.

Also Strikers are very picky with RAM, Id say go with the Ballistix, much better stuff.
