View Full Version : Doctors List?

Well, I'm sick. Not that weird, except I don't get sick. I just don't. I haven't had anything more than an upset tummy from eating too much to a headache from doing too much in more than three years. Thats just as far as I can remember, its been so long that I don't even remember when the last time I was sick was.

So heres the problem. Since I'm never sick, I have utterly no clue what I have. lol I mean, I know what headaches are, all different types of flu and of course some of those really hardcore ones that are pretty rare to get these days. But I just can't even begin to figure out what I have! lol

So I was wondering, for patients who can't really describe what they have other than by one or two symptoms, is there some kind of check list that doctors have to narrow down the possibilities of what someone could have?

Just in case we have some kind of professional "what sick do you have" person here, I'll tell you what I can.

I don't have a sore throat, but it feels like something is there in the back every time I swallow. Like I said, its not sore, but its not like its all that comfortable either. On a scale of 1 to 10, where 10 is something like strep throat I guess (never had it) its probably a 2 at the very most.

Symptoms below may be due to having of just woken up. (I guess I always kind of feel this way, but idk, its not like I keep a diary of how I feel every morning and I can't really remember how I was feeling last night aside from the "lump" in the back of my throat)

I have a slight headache, nothing painful, just a very tiny one. If someone were to punch me in the arm, I would probably forget I had one for the time I could feel my arm hurt lol. But it is consistent, I think I can remember having it since last night before I went to bed. (around the time I started feeling sick was right before bed, a few hours after game night with the relatives)

Somewhat congested nasal cavities? My nose is kind of plugged in other words. Again, nothing too bad, I can still breath out one nostril and kind of out the other. This could be and probably is due to just waking up, my nose always generates lots of mucus during the night and its always on one side, since I lay on my sides.

Last but not least, my temperature isn't normal. Its not uncomfortably hot, but its definitely a little warmer than usual. Its not as bad as it was last night, where the whole hand to the forehead test would of easily told a person that I was sick.

Well, thats about it. lol Any ideas as to what it could be?? I'm only asking, not because I'm freaking out or anything, but because if I don't tackle it while its weak (at least, I think its weak?lol) then I could very very easily get a lot of people sick. Friends, family, relatives and countless unknown random people. I don't want that kind of responsibility man! lol

I tell you right now, the end of the world due to a zombie break out is NOT going to be caused by me just because I didn't bother to take the precautions to finding out what I have so I can better tackle it. Although, saying that, some people are probably going to be less prone to helping me. I mean hell, who doesn't want a zombie breakout? I just know we have at least three people here on the boards DYING to bust out their "Zombie Survival Kits". :D

Anyways, thanks for the help if anyone can. I know this isn't a medical forum, but seriously, I just don't care enough to go register at some other site that would probably laugh, ban and bombard my email with 3rd party spam in all about three seconds. Besides, we all know that registering at another forum is like sticking your car keys into someone else's ignition. Ew?? :)

Holy shmoly! lol I wrote WAY more than what I was originally planning on. Sorry! :D

.............
Grawh! lol

So I call my mom to see if she knows what I might have. She doesn't. You know what she tells me instead?

"Well I hope its nothing serious..."

Thank mom, thanks. lol

So then I ask one of my good friends. You know what he says?

"Hey, if you go zombie on us, can I be the one who chainsaws you in half?"

"Yea yea, your hilarious. But no seriously, what do you think I have?"

"I am being serious! Do you know how freaking awesome it would be to chainsaw a zombie in half!?"

*sigh*

I need new friends/family. lol

the last I was sick like that it was sinus infection coupled with sinus drainage.nothing major but going to the doctor would be a good plan.last time I didnt go to a doctor when i needed to (had knee problems) I had to walk with a cane for about 8 months and go through some pretty horrible poking with rather large needles. you will get better though.

I have something similar... I'm really freakin' tired all the time, have an occasional hacking cough, and it feels like something is stuck in the back of my throat (it's supposedly really sore and crap, at least that's what the doctor said)...

I'd hit up the doctor for some meds... that's what I did and they help a little. The sad thing is I've been sick for three weeks now... guh. Good luck and get well soon dude.

Sounds like a sinus infection to me, other than that you'll likely not ever get a definitive answer to "what do I have?" because the infection could be from any one of the thousands of different viruses. That's really not important though, the main question to be answered is whether it's viral or bacterial. If it's viral you just have to wait it out, if it's bacterial then antibiotics will help. Trouble is, beyond doing a strept swab on the back of your throat it's tough to answer that question as well (because if the strept test is negative, it could still be any other of the bacterial that one would normally find there cause your symptoms). You really just need to stay well hydrated and go see your doc who will likely put you on a penicilin type antibiotic anyway. Your list is a great way to explain your symptoms to the doc because it's always hard to remember everything when you are in the room. Just take what you have there and he/she will have some more questions to add. Don't worry to much about spreading the illness to others as most infections are not that easily transmitted (flu is a big exception). Just avoid sharing drinking glasses, shaking hands, coughing in someone's face, you know, the obvious stuff.
