The hard drives in the 360 are laptop 2.5" drive with SATA interfaces (IIRC). People have been using WD Scorpio drives to replace their PS3 and 360 drives as they tend to be larger in capacity, quieter and more reliable than others on the market.

I guess you'd use your computer to copy the files from the old drive to the new one. I'm not exactly sure on this one.

I don't know if this has changed, but last time i read about this i read that it isn't quite along the lines of plug in a new hard drive and BAM you have a bigger disk. I read that there are some issues w/ the way microsoft locked down the hard drive on the xbox that keeps one from easily using another drive. It can be done but from what i understood people had to ghost their current drive to the new drive and for whatever reason they didn't actually receive and increase in HD size. The new drive would be seen as the same size as the old drive. I don't know much about it and this could have changed by now. It's been a while since i looked in to it. Just thought i would let you know.

If you change it out, I'm pretty sure it bans your Live account, and doesn't allow you to save content downloaded from Live. Xbox drives have unique IDs, and when Live sees you don't have the proper ID, you're done. Account = banned. That's why when people (like me) put XBMC on their old boxes, they have to give up Live (if they used it).

I said this earlier today in a different thread: Keep the old drive, and just buy an external. Move your media and whatever to that drive, but keep the Xbox drive so you don't have a useless singleplayer box.

I was under the understanding that with the 360's it bans the actual 360 and not just the account. So even if you get a new account your SOL. Maybe I am wrong, but I thought that was what they did. Maybe its the hdd, idk.

That's actually pretty much what it boils down to. Best idea, just don't do it.
