My boss bought a new laptop and gave me her old desktop tower. It's got a P3 barely running Win98. Maybe my next mod?
What kind of theme do you think I should go with?

Funny story, I was down in the smoke area Monday when one of our Technical Support agents walked up looking extremely frazzled. He works on our account that does tech support for Staples. Well, he had just gotten off of a call with an end user that was having problems getting their CD drive to work. He asked the normal questions, and everything checked out. OS was recognizing the drive. He went round and round for 45 minutes when finally the true problem came to light! The EU had a system just like the one you have there, and they were putting the CD in the storage area at the top! My reply to him was "You could have avoided that if you had just told them to put the cd in their 'Cup Holder'. :D
Anywho.. They definitely aren't the best cases in the world, but Defyant did some pretty awesome stuff with the similar models, and I bet you will too!

I can't wait to see what you think about doing with that case. Since, I think i have an almost similar looking case somewhere in the storage. lol

Ha thats funny. My Co-Manger was just having trouble with the exact same computer. It just stopped powering up. Well I had her bring it in I pulled MB plug and crossed to the green and black and it started. plugged it in worked fine. But my first thought when I saw the case was, "If I can't fix it I wonder if she'd give me the case and what could I do to it." lol, if we think this when we see a computer do we have a problem?

I have a computer so similar to that one except for the top opening and all. Nice to see another one.

I'm on a computer almost exactly like that one! haha! Its blue instead of clear though. Its definitely crap... but the built quality on mine is superb. This sucker is a freakin' tank!
I would tell you what you should do, but I might have plans for mine. :p
Gotta love Hp's for moddin', they almost always have so much potential...

That smoked plastic is just asking for LEDs placed behind it.

I think you're right :D. I've got one in our office. No CD holder, but otherwise, same case :D.

Wow. I was going to pop in and say I have one of those in my closet and I didnt know what to do with it here. Apparently we all have the same problem. I would trade that and my dell box for a decent mid or full tower.

Well damn! I got the no-CD-holder, one-5.25" version, and have had two of your type in the past...
Maybe I WILL light up that grey plastic...

That could be fun to mod. I have never actually had one of those cases. The only thing that worries me about that case is the PSU is positioned over the CPU. Although if you watercooled it then you might not have that issue, which gives me another idea, somehow turn that semiclear front part into a resivoir. I kinda want to do that now. You could give me the case and I'll make it into a awesome watercooling case.

The older version of that case had the PSU mounted lower, covering up the expansion slots and enabling HP to put a full-ATX board in what amounted to a minitower. Even worse, really.
If I do do something with mine I'll have the PSU on top. :D

I kinda thought other versions might have been microATX, with the PSU originally on top. I think you could make this configuration work with watercooling on the CPU, and adding fans to direct airflow differently. Probably add a blowhole or something. I still like my idea for a resivoir.

He asked us what recommendations we have for themes. I like themes that deal with science fiction.

It looks kind of like a Bug (insect) to me ... all those rounded bits of plastic on the front. So I'd do something bug-themed with it. And that floppy disk surround looks like a gaping mouth. Just needs a few dentures to eat floppies with.
