So I'm starting to think about a computer for my girlfriend. Honestly its ridiculous how much she likes pink but oh well. So she is needing a desktop cuz her laptop just isn't cutting it. So I'm starting to look for parts and ideas on a pink computer for her. Its not really gonna be a case mod, more like a lighting mod cuz pink is hard to come by.

Now this is gonna have to kinda a budget system. So I need to get the best I can for my money. $600 would be sweet for everything.

Case - $84.99

RAM - $39.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115031

HD - 54.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822152022

PSU - $25.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817182006

CPU - $129.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819115031

MOBO - $44.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813130131

GPU - $94.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814150230

DVD Burner - $24.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151161

Speakers - $38.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827151161

Keyboard & Mouse - $29.99
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16823109144

Monitor - $239.99
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824252008

Total - $809.89

I should have her pitch in on this. At least have her buy the monitor... hmm...

The thing that puts me over is the monitor. Ya its a 22" but its kinda worth it when some 19" are like $189 and the 22" is only $209 after rebate.

But now that I think about it. Maybe I don't have to worry about the pink lighting. I can get Pink UV reactive sleeving and put that in it with dual 12" cold cathode lights. hmm... anyone help with finding it in the US? I found a site on ebay but it was for UK only. +rep for it. I can get Pink LED's from here (http://www.ledtronics.com/ds/l200-tpp/)

UV Lights - $9.99
http://www.crazypc.com/products/8240UV.html or
http://www.frozencpu.com/products/2998/lit-46/Dual_12_Cold_Cathode_Kit_-_Ultra_Bright_UV.html?tl=g6c75s133
I bought some stuff from them before and they are really good with it.

Ya so UV lighting with UV reactive sleeving on the cables, and.... fans...
http://www.performance-pcs.com/catalog/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=117&products_id=20664

This stuff looks cool. I could just get good clear fans and spray them and they will show up pink. Not too shabby. The case takes an 80 and a 120 so I only have to buy 2 fans and the $14 for the paint. Anyone see this stuff before?

This is gonna be like a late spring/summer project. I'm just looking for ideas.

Let me know!!

I don't really know much about about finding this stuff in the US, but just a note/suggestion with the lighting... I have pink lighting in my case, but if everything was pink it'd just get way too overwhelming and it can hurt your eyes after a while. I have one blue fan on the side and a blue fan at the front, it complements the pink nicely without getting too blinding.

Just my $0.02

Yeah thats a good point Elenril you don't want to much pink otherwise it looks garish. Maybe some nice contrasting baby blues and pink. It is a really nice gesture you are building a pc for her.

Well I'm back at it. Price for it has gone down but I'm working on the parts as we speak. So far she likes these 2 cases:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156213

Not gonna be a lot of modding to the case except for lighting and probably cable sleeving. Need to talk to her first.

The 3870 I have has gone way down in price... it's around $120-140 now after rebate and I think it's worth the upgrade from that 8600 (which has been deactivated by the way). Here's the link in case you want to take a look:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814103050

EDIT: And you may want to get a more substantial PSU than that...

This is just my opinion, but I would take a some of your left over budget and get a little better power supply. Looks like there are quite a few bad reviews on it. I know just about everything will have negative reviews but you don't want something that is more likely to fry or fry your computer.

Suggestion? She needs at least a 500-550w.

A pink computer eh? How about this monitor? It's a little pricey, but it does fit the theme and doubles as a TV!

Hmm. Noted. Only thing is the reviews aren't great and the resolution isn't too great.

AC Ryan makes UV fans that glow pink. In fact I am using some for one of my cases. They say it is red but it really glows pink/purple.

Agreed. That "575w" power supply might do 300 watts.

If you can deal with mail-in rebates, there's some good deals going now, such as this Enermax (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817103447), this OCZ (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341010), and if you're looking to save a bit in the short term, this Topower (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817342011) isn't bad either. I'd probably go with the OCZ, personally.

Those are good PSU's but too expensive for her. That last Topower isn't too bad on price.

What do you think?

Looks good. Channel Well built (same supplier as older Antecs), as long as the fan's reasonably powerful it should perform up to about 500w. Solid PSU for sixty bucks.

If you want some more pink light, i just had an idea... you could get some white CCFLs and spray them clear pink or red, and i'm sure they'd shine pinkish...
just a crazy idea i had...

Red CCFLS are not necessary pink. I ordered purple ccfls and got pink. Just dependeds on the maker of the cathode really. And I actually did a pink one for myself one time.
heres the before paint:
