Meh a little backstory. I've always been interested in customization, building, creating things, etc. A while ago I saw the Team Fortress Two Sentry Gun Case Mod. (http://youtube.com/watch?v=2q-k0gbyaMQ) That got my interest sparked in case mods seeing how much I could change, etc. So I googled around a bit and found Paul Capello's Doom 3 Project Mars.

So I googled it some more to see if i could find a in the works thread or whatnot, which brought me to these forums eventually. I took alook around at the gallery and the workthreads, etc.

I read most of the wiki, and now am thoroughly interested in doing a case mod. I've got all the tools (well they are my dads, but same difference, right?) and i have two extra systems laying around half disassembled. I'm looking into creating something from TF2, with a bit of a twist.

Something similar to that, (Don't mind the extra parts of the toolbox it came from, just grabbed the images quick. and when it's "built"(or on) the screen displays how much metal.)

How complex do you think this would be, and what are your thoughts on it in general?

Oh and a little about me, 15 years old and live in California. Ideas are flying around in my head, but i'll be back tomorrow.

-Edit-
Sorry for the low resolution pictures, the bar at the top reads "Provisions"

Sorry + Thanks @ Simon.

@Danthegeek (nice case by the way) Yeah I realize it, but... I dunno. I would be a little lost.

To start off with the preexisting cases arn't tall enough, it's too wide and not deep enough. This would mean a custom frame really which is probably more then I want to do.

I should make it dispense soda. :lick:

The best way to do this would be a scratchbuild: basically build your case custom. I think anyone can casemod if they want to just look around for how-tos and advice threads. If you're worried about starting with such a big project then take a cheap or junk case as a different project and try out some of the stuff in the tutorials on it. You might come up with something good, and even if you don't like the result you will learn a lot.

Getting the supplies would be the main problem really, since I don't drive. My parents would definently raise an eye at me asking for Bondo, Aluminum, etc. (They think all I do every day is play games on the computer 24/7, :sigh:)

It looks like you could create a large regtangle frame, then use uh...Clear Sheet Styrene sheets to build the other parts.

Here's a video of it building itself in a bit higher quality-- Wish I could make a case mod that built itself like that..

Case modding is as much passion as anything else, and so far what I've seen you have that. As far as supplies most are mail orderable and basics like bondo are easy to grab at walmart...we all end up there atleast twice a week. Parents actually don't mind modding so much, as long as you don't take over too much of the garage or burn the house down.

Of course modding is for you.

It's in us all.

I suck, hard, but I still enjoy messing about with the Dremel and what have you (nothing worthy of these pages mind you).

Get stuck in.

And if your parents complain about you wanting more cutting disks or whatever, ask them for some Heroin instead.

There are worse things for a 15yr old to be into.....

The real question you need to ask is, "how can I turn this idea into a real object?" There are an infinite number of ways this could happen. You could hire a company to make everything for you, or you could render all the parts individually and have the models sent to a 3D printer, but those ideas are expensive.

I would try to look at what you have modeled, and then see what actual things are very similar to those you modeled. From there all you need to do is find out what modifications you need to make to the real objects to make them what you want.

Good luck. I think there is a bit of a modder in everyone. Welcome to the forums!

Too bad you're already up to your Eagle Scout project; I would have figured out a way to work this into one of the lower projects!

Meh, there are no smaller projects, minus community service and whatnot.

Now I wanna get this case finished for Bucko, after reading about him. My heart goes out to his family.

Ned, you need to start this case and get it moved in with the worklog's. I know you have a bunch of materials allready bought for this.

Oh yeah obviously. (I do? Was that a not-so subtle hint? D:)
