View Full Version : It's Going to be a Another Cold Night

My heater works fine minus the blower. No blower, no heat circulation. I just discovered it yesterday afternoon and then I had to go to work.
One company came over today and told me that it's the motor, but the unit is still under warranty. Except they won't fix it because they weren't the ones that installed it. I then called the company that did install it and they told me the earliest they could come is tomorrow night. So for now I have to spend another night in the cold. I woke up to 45 degrees this morning so tomorrow it'll be in the 30's.
It seems like no company works at all late on these things. It's all because of stupid unions. If it hadn't been sooo union-ized down here I wouldn't have to wait to get this damn thing fixed

That sucks dude... OC the crap out of all of your computers (not enough to kill them of course) and leave them on running benchmarks or something where they're on load pretty good and put them in the room you sleep in. It may be a little loud but it'll be warm. ;)

I bought a space heater and I'll have my daughters shack up the same room as me tonight, so we'll get through it, but it's still annoying

My condolences to you and having no heater. And since this is your rant thread, I'll bite my tongue regarding unions.

Inside your house?:)
TGS, I feel your pain dude. 2 winters in a row I've had to call a furnace company to come look at our furnace. Last year, it would light and then go out a couple of minutes later because of a faulty limit switch. This year, the flame sensors were acting up and not sensing the flame. Even though they fixed it fairly quickly both times, it killed my natural gas bill ($350 for one month). Oh, and it was really cold when our furnace crapped out (-40), so the furnace company responded very quickly for us. I'm hoping you get some heat soon.

Yeah, it's 10 degrees outside and -5 with windchill. Currently it's 42 in here and a balmy 58 where my daughters are sleeping. I decided to let them stay there since it is a small room and it does warm up very well. I have a mattress warmer and will be fine tonight. Then I work from morning to early evening and then HOPEFULLY the repair man will come.

What you complaining about 30? I'd be sweating in that heat!
(Yes I'm bored, and know that it's 30f and not 30c)

At least it's not peanut butter jelly time.

Ya know, in the arctic, peanut butter jelly time is all the time! You are supposed to eat like 4000+ calories a day to keep energy levels up in extreme cold.
Totally pointless piece of info, I know.

I woke this morning and the house was at 37 degrees. I had my daughters eat their breakfast in their room where the space heater is. I'm still waiting for the repair guy to arrive....

Yup.. when I went to Norway, the MRE's (meals ready to eat) we were supplied with were 1500 calories each. Glad to hear the good news TGS! Keep us updated.

The guy came and pulled out the bad motor and then left to get a new one. The previous guy told me the switch inside was bad too, but this guy told me he doesn't know if he can get one of those today. So I wonder, if the heater has a new motor, but no switch will I have no heat all night? Again?
Not sure about that, but I say if they can't get the part, then they need to set you up in a hotel until they get their heads out of their a$$es and fix it properly. C'mon man, use some Jarhead persuasion on these idiots. Better yet.. you're in S.Il. Come on over to Ohio, I'll put you up for the weekend. Bring your dremel and some paint, and we'll have a party. The kids can have one giant slumber party.

Hmm. Maybe sometimes its good not to void those things?? Nah, modding is more fun. Good thing on getting heat back though.

To continue this thread;
Ok where I live is like at 700' above sea level. Granted we are in the Santa Cruz mountains and it is a rain forest but I had ice on my car a couple of times this year already. I drive a really scenic route to work (HWY9) and it reaches max 1500' if that. Ok in the previous 13 years I have lived here and commuted on that hwy, it has snowed probably 5 times at the summit and once at my house.
Just this year (since the REAL start of the year and not the rainy season) it has snowed at least 6 times at the summit (I say at least since I have taken a few days off) and it was snowing again this morning. They are expecting the snow level to reach 1000' tonight and tomorrow, which means we will probably get snow at my house! For those of you wanting reference, I am about 15 minutes from the beach. WTF!?!?! I moved out of Colorado because I was tired of commuting in the snow...
Also what the hell is taking global warming so long. I mean I don't drive that polluting 7mpg Landcruiser for nothing... Jeez get warm already...
(hehehe JK about that last part)
BTW we got 8" of rain just this last weekend and 8-10 the previous weekend...

OK Airbozo the snow you are getting is due to global warming. What happens is that it is melting the ice in the north and the freshwater screws up the density of the water which then starts diffrent currents in the ocean and from there it moves the jet stream wich brings the cold air from the north... So if you dont want snow at the beach start getting peps to drive hybrids and better MPG cars... Just saying.
I hatez the cold to and I live in WISCONSIN...

Hey Airbozo, from another thread:
Hmmm, Good jobs, winter sports AND hockey! Be right up...
Current temperature outside my house -40'C. If you add in windchill -54'C, and we have about 3 feet of accumulated snow. Still tempted?

Only on vacation...
And Luke, I bet not many people know about "plugging in your truck". I had to do that a lot in Colorado.
