Hey, I am just curious what your opinions are. Is the nvidia 8800 GTS video card worth the money?

which one? the new 512 G92's are, they almost beat GTX's i believe. i was going to get a 8800 Ultra but i'm thinking i might just get 2 8800 GTS's and sli them.

here (http://www.techspot.com/review/79-geforce-8800-gts-512/) is a review of the 512 version

Personally I don't think so. The best "bang for your buck" is the EVGA 8800GT 512MB Superclocked (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130319)

Here (http://enthusiast.hardocp.com/article.html?art=MTQxMCwxLCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA==) is one site that compares the GT, GTS and GTX. I can't access the other ones from here at school but I'll try to find them tonight.

My buddies and I were recently having this same discussion, and our general concensus was that the GT was/is the way to go.
CPU magazine in it's recent issue was rating and testing some of the current GT's out there and the winner was the ASUS EN8800GT Top. I don't remember the exact numbers but the core clock was around 675 or 700 and the memory clock was at like 2000.
They tested it against an 8800 GTX Ultra and said it was consistently benchmarking within 100 points on 3DMark and very close on all the other tests too...
It was only 279 and came bundled with Company of Heroes.

I am perfectly happy with my 8800gts 640mb. Crysis on high, playable frame rates. As soon as the price drops again, I will get another and sli them (that was the plan all along).

Hmm, yea, but the BFG 512 8800 GTS is only $40 more on newegg. Is performance pretty much equal?

I heard that the G92 GTS was about 5-ish% better than a GT. They both have advantages and disadvantages to them though.

GT - Cheaper, almost as good, single slot.
GTS - Only slightly more expensive, slightly better, better cooling.

GT - Inferior cooling, not as good
GTS - Dual slot design, performance increase worth the money?

You may have problems since NVidia has discontinued the 8800GTS 640MB if I recall correctly.

Personally I'd recommend the 512MB 8800GTS over the 8800GT because of the cooling... but that's just me.

it depends on the card manufacturer for the cooling design, some brands have put some nice aftermarket solutions on their cards that are quieter and better than that dumb single slot design (imo stupidest thing nvidia has done in a while)

I have the 640MB one and without a doubt it is worth it. And I don't even game.

Even though I am an ati guy, that is a sweet card. Even if you do just get the 512, it would probably still be great.
