Okay folks, the time you've been waiting for is coming soon. I probably won't post the entries until tomorrow. I don't think you'll need any special software to view the entries, one of them was done in cinema4D but I think he made it into an mpeg so that should be a problem. One of them is a huge download (around 25MB) so be prepared if you have dial-up. It's best if you make your score cards ahead of time (excel would be great) and judge each mod and each category carefully without taking into consideration any of the other characteristics. Be objective and don't let yourself give favor to friends. Thanks for your patience while you wait for the posting. You will love some of these, they did a great job.
Once you have all of your score cards finished, email them (preferably as excel file attachments) to jdbnsn@thebestcasescenario.com I won't be judging so I'll tally your votes. Thanks everyone for your efforts in making this competition an exciting and successful endeavor.

Hi its haha49 from tbs My design is simple and doable.. my plan is to take a micro atx mb and place a halo head on top i would then make a small case to fit the head and make it blend in so it looks like it wasnt even there. I would then use dangerden water cooling so it would alow me to have a lower profile for the case as alot of air heatsinks need alot of room. I would mount powersupply inside the head and also place the watercooling pump and radiator in there as well as 1 hardrive. I would have to take the powersupply out of its case to mount it inside the head. The water cooling lines would be put through the neck inside it would be more like a stealth mod with me trying to hide everything inside. Thats my current plan to build it. If i win i will attempt to build the case useing the components i won. i was thinking of doing a build like this with water cooling anyways i just didnt have the funds to do so or an idea to do so i figured why not do a halo head case.. i have already talked to my friend and hes willing to donate the halo head to the cause. I already have a mb and cpu i plan on useing that will work perfectly for this mod i just need water cooling powersupply hardrive and fans and some supplys to do this build

Good luck judging I know it will be hard as there are alot of people that can do good designs..

This is my Challenge entry.
modders_challenge_final_coloured is sketch of component layout (individual components are not marked, unless they affect the design of the case/cooling.)

modders_challenge_concept shows what outside of case would look like, also has some info that isn't on sketch.

Thanks, Helix.

My name is Anthony, known as Mysteriphys on TBCS, This is my proposal for the Halo 3 PC design. To Begin, seeing alot of what goes on on-line in relation to the premier of Halo 3 I noticed alot of Helmet Designs, being that the helmet itself was a popular item I decided to base the project on the Helmet. To begin I needed a base large enough to build a Servo activated keyboard tray a motherboard & water cooling into, as well as being structural enough to hold the weight of the Helmet. (img 01 a&b)
The Helmet being the main filling zone, which contains the compact power supply for the motherboard a dvd slim drive an LCD display that forms to the interior face of the face shield, a wireless mouse that is formed to the shape of the helmet in the front and has the charging base built into it's mounting point. most of which would be built into a tight outer surface area, to allow for A projector to be dis-assembled and build into the bulk of the helmet, there will be a servo which opens a port in the back of the helmet, allowing the main projector lens to display the monitor contents on an open wall. all this allows for fewer cables and a very clean and futuristic look, Unfortunately I don't have the resources to build something like this nor give a better 3D type rendering, but as the rules stated a design would suffice I've drafted a few pictures and detailed them with further information to demonstrate the majority of my ideas. Linked resource included to further describe front dispalys ability: http://www.citynews.ca/news/news_11359.aspx - front viewing screen thanks for your time - looking forward to seeing all the other great designs!

I was wrong, forgot that Froop's entries are in sketchup form so you will need to download a sketchup viewer.

***FROOP’S MODDER’S CHALLENGE ENTRY #1, UNFORGOTTEN HOPE***

Model made with: Google sketchup v 6.2

This case is a complete mdf /aluminium scratchbuilt, which should look like a building on the planet halo. This case is designed to stand on a table or raised from the floor in any kind.

#1 Card reader: connected via internal USB to the motherboard

#2 USB HUB: also connected to the internal USB motherboard things

#3 intake aluminium fans (80mm): blow air inside the basement of the building, the air will go trough the hard drive cage (oh look it’s the tbcs logo :D) (check the airflow picture)

#4 passive intakes: mesh on the bottom allows air to enter the support bars and travel trough the case to the exhaust fans on top

#5 flood carrier: standard halo character (which I hate, truly)

#6 bulgin power switches: (f.l.t.r.) DVD drive eject, power button, reset

#7 DVD burner: (could be a HD DVD or blue ray, but those costs $$$) it should be a stealthed one, but it’s shown in the sketch.

#8 modified PSU: windowed 1k watt PSU with a cryptic haloish window engraving, illuminated with blue/UV leds

#9 Tribal overkills reservoir: intake/outlet through the holders (won’t be visible in final built)

#10 LCD: show stats like temp, free HDD space ore halo 2 multiplayer frags ;)

#11 watercooling: radiator with exhaust fan (120mm) and a custom self-made halo3 fan grille

#12 cortana model figure: attached to the fill port cap, with built in speech ability (e.g. kitt from night rider, know what I’m talking bout?)

#13 unique connectors: if some1 steals this case, he... has it, but cant use it, because there are NO standard connectors (check both versions, differs)

Paintjob:

Basecoat is a dark grey tone, the halo logos and the “finish the fight” writing and the halo like patterns are airbrushed and dry brushed.

Watercooling kit:

2 120mm radiators with ½” fittings
1 asetek Antarctica
1 Liquid evolution reservoir
1 danger dan fill port
1 Liang DDC 12V

***FROOPS MODDERS CHALLENGE ENTRY #2***

Hey guys, this is my second entry to the tbcs modders challenge.

This is a complete aluminium scratch built, small form factor (µatx, I guess a SFF mod?)
This case should look like the halo character 343 Guilty Spark, which is alternatively known to the United Nations Space Command (UNSC) as the Monitor and to the Covenant as the Oracle; his primary role left by his Forerunner makers is to maintain his ringworld, Installation 04, also known as 'Halo'.

This small thing should sport a full working 2 120mm rad water-cooling loop (cpu and video card) with a T line dD fill port res, I made the sphere green so you can see the hardware (sphere will be out of fibreglass or some sort of styrene (the one NQ|Squelsh used for his “the orb”) with some windows in it. It will held by model car springs (monster truck size) so there are no vibrations on the outer case, which is made out of bend aluminium sheets. The spark eye contains a motion tracking webcam, BUT there is a circuit that moves the eye around because the webcam is dismantled and only the camera itself is in the eye, the rest of this circuit is under the DVD drive, next to the DDC pump.

Sorry for the short description but this was a fast one

Dear Sir,

Please see enclosed my entry for the Modder's Challenge #4: Halo. I hope it is to your standards. I would like to take this time to thank you for running the contest and giving me- and indeed everyone at TBCS- this opportunity.

My account on TBCS is under the name Vision, and I trust my profile is in order.

THE BEST CASE SCENARIO

Modder’s Challenge Four
Halo 3

Entry:
Forerunner Terminal

Design By:
Vision and KramMarkio

December 30, 2007

Inspirations

When given the theme for this project, my focus instantly moved to the Forerunners. The ancient race responsibly for the “Ring Worlds”, the Forerunners’ architecture and technology are predominant during the story of “Halo: Combat Evolved”, and indeed, “Halo 2” and “Halo 3”. The simple but monolithic geometric styles make for impressive in-game locals, and became this projects main focus. Furthermore, the mysterious “Terminals” found in Halo 3 became a centerpiece of this case modification.

Starting Point

Stock Case: Cooler Master Stacker 830 EVO

The Cooler Master Stacker 830 EVO is quite a case before modification. It’s unique styling is what drew me to it, as it is geometric in nature and has a look slightly reminiscent of the Forerunner Terminals. The hexagonal mesh on the front of the case mimics the door of the Terminal Unit. The curves on the left and right side of both the front bezel of the case and the Terminal Unit also match. The feet of the case also mimic Forerunner geometric architecture.

The inherent likeness to the theme material makes the Stacker a prime candidate for this modification.

Direction

During the progress of this project, I wished to achieve certain goals:

o Incorporate aspects of the Forerunner Terminals.
o Tying into the last aspect, create holographic effects.
o Strengthen geometric shapes and Forerunner architecture.
o Keep the case functional and realistic in application
o Pay homage to the Halo universe

The Design

Design Elaborations
(Refer to Design pictures)

Front Bezel
The main focus of this piece is the Terminal node piece. To achieve the effect of a hologram being emitted in the case, two layers of acrylic would be cut into the appropriate shape and curved to finish the basic the shape of the Terminal. One piece would be the first blue layer of the hologram, and the other the second yellow layer. To replicate the “circuitry” designs found on the terminals, etchings would be applied to the acrylic. To finish the effect, l.e.d.s of the respected color would be mounted and hidden discreetly around the circumference of the center hole and the out side edges. The etchings will reflect the light and pronounce themselves. The two layers give the design depth, and allow the viewer to circle around the piece and see the layers of “hologram”, as one could do during Halo 3. The center hole would house an Aerocool Gate Watch II 4-Channel Fan Controller LCD screen. This give the “terminal” function, and further round out the look. Finishing off the bezel are 3 vents cut above and under the hexagonal mesh and terminal assembly, blue accent lights, and a gun-metal grey paint found on the rest of the case.

Behind the front case door are the drive bays, per usual.(Not shown on design) Occupying two of the 5.25 bays is a XSPC Dual Bay Reservoir with Bubble Window. This window will have a Forerunner symbol etched (ever so carefully!) on it. The coolant is Fluid XP+ EXT, UV blue, and lit by two A.C. Ryan Twin Overboost 4” cold cathode lights (4 tubes in all, 2 per) The front fan is a 120mm UV blue illuminated fan.

Top Panel
To turn on the computer, the user will have to activate what appears to be a holographic panel. The effect is achieved through slightly different means than that of the Terminal on the front panel. UV reactive paint will be painted on a piece of clear acrylic in a design resemble that of the bridge controls found in the second level of “Halo: Combat Evolved”. This will replace the mesh in the middle of the top panel. Beneath the “holo-panel”, tubing for the water cooling system will be run back and forth in a uniform layer, to give the effect of looking a forerunner machine. To make the UV reactive paint glow, 3 UV laser led arrays will be hidden in the top paneling, on each short side shinning down the case at the other arrays. Two UV laser leds will also be hidden in the tubing to ensure the holographic piece will glow bright. Furthermore, the acrylic piece will be rigged to the power switch, so when pressure is placed on the “hologram”, the machine starts up. On the front part of the top panel, where the power button used to be located, will be a original Xbox controller port. The Xbox controller wiring is notoriously easy to be converted to USB, rather than the Xbox port. This port will be wired to the system. This allows a Xbox controller to be used on the computer as a gamepad easily.

Side Panel
The side panels for this project were reserved for a mural of sorts, used to portray geometric patterns of the Forerunners. The side panels are made of two layers. The back layer has a milled design in the metal (refer to diagram). The second layer consists of a decorative design and a custom fan cover. Seen as red on the design, laser cut pieces of polished metal sit upon the first layer. These pieces are anodized dark red. The middle oval design covers the water cooling system’s radiator and 120mm fan, but is raised from the rest of the design to still allow the fan to cool the radiator effectively. The pieces comprising this are anodized the color seen on the diagram. The fan used in the radiator is UV blue illuminated, and this light glows out of the oval design.

Finishing touches
First off, in the interior of the case, on the hard drive cage, is scratched the number “117”. Master Chief is Spartan 117, and his number was scratched in the war monument at the end of Halo 3. The interior of the case is painted the same gun metal color as the exterior. Along the top most support beam of the case and the back support beam of the side panel are mounted two 12’ blue cold cathode tube lights. This will illuminate the interior of the case, and glow out of any opening available. This gives it the appearance of a glowing power being held inside. Last but certainly not least, along the gold anodized piece of the side fan cover assembly, will be the words “TheBestCaseScenario Modder’s Challenge #4” heavily engraved.

Conclusion
I’d like to personally thank you on behave of our partnership for taking time to read our proposal, and indeed for running the Modder’s Challenges and running thebestcasescenario.com. I’m new to your community, but I look forward to being a part of it.

Cheers,
Vision

Great job everyone. Thanks to all the sponsors, Paul Capello, and the judges for this great contest. Even though I didn't finish my project, even with the extension, it motivated me to finally learn more than just the basics of blender. (http://www.blender.org) Now I'm hooked! I can't stop modelling/animating. When I make something I'm willing to share, TBCS will be the first to know. BTW, now I've got plans to build myself a render farm (lots of mods:think:). I enjoyed every second of it, and I'm already looking forward to the next challenge.

Visual aids aren't everything, as I recall you design ranked pretty high as well. Ideas are more important than pretty pictures. The idea behind this challenge was a fluent, representative tribute to Halo that implemented as much of our specifications as possible. The winner could just have easily drawn it on a napkin. I read the judges comments on each category and they faithfully separated the style points from the design points. This was an excellent competition with some very skilled thinkers. Makes me proud...sniff.
