How many people here have Xbox live, and use the marketplace to download/watch movies, tv shows, clips, etc?
Show of hands..
Ok, now, How many of those people are in the US?
Lots right? How many movies/tv shows do you have? 300ish movies, and tons of clips/tv shows right?
In Canada, we have.... 22 movies on the Live Marketplace, and 2 tv shows, with a few episodes of each. Not only that, but maybe 5 of those movies are decent, 4 are available in HD, and the rest are all B-movies or old junk.
I called MS today to ask about this, and the response was:
"Content in Canada is licensed differently than in the US, and we are still pursuing licensing to offer more in Canada."
That's pretty much the biggest brush off in history. If I had paid for my Xbox live membership, i'd be truly pissed off.. since it was a gift, I'm still pissed, but what can you do? I registered my complaint, and went onto the xbox live forums to vent, and saw an entire thread full of mad as hell Canucks.
There are more of us out there I'm sure.

Like Gaz said, we get the screwy end of the stick too.
The official line is 'We treat Europe as a single market, and have to work on translations, etc.'
It's a load of balls, and everyone knows it. Why they still use these lame-ass excuses is anyone's guess. They use that line when trying to defend the 200% price hike in the UK too.

Its the same with iTunes, look at the US version of the store, Movies etc etc, the UK version? Not a single full length feature film at all. Not that i use the store, but it's stupid why offer it in the US and not the UK.
Then they have the cheek to charge those in the UK MORE than the US... Who are obviosly using more storage space and bandwidth because of the movies...
Hell the price on anything in the UK. Is lame.

Wow. I didn't know it was hard for outside USA customers. But if you were toprogram your 360 to say you live in USA, would you then get the USA content or would they know by your ISP?

They wouldn't know by the ISP, they would know by the IP.
And, unless you're an extreme hacker, I don't think that would even be possible. Even to the extreme hackers it's pushing it.

Even if you set your location on the console to the US, the points cards that you purchase are region specific... I've already tried this. :P

...and surprisingly enough, people still play regular old Halo 1 multiplayer on PC all the time. Kind of funny imo.

Dude.
I still play UT99 and HL: DMC all the time, and those games are 9 years old.

I totally would but all I have is Doom 2.
I need to find my Quake 3 Arena disc. That was a fun game.

Heh, I have the Doom Ultimate Edition (Doom 1, Doom 2, Doom Whatever it is). $10 at Walmart. I still play TFC, a mod which is what, 10 years old now? Or almost 10...
Oh well, I'm ordering my 360 in about 10 minutes.

ooooo is this the rant about xbox live thread! Why do they have to abuse their customers w/ endless amounts of horrendously priced DLC! And i really don't want to pay for content that is on the disc either. It makes me so mad when companies come out and say they want to give us free content but MSoft says no.
Stopping milking me, I'm not a cash cow.
And another thing:
Msoft needed a way to make the gold membership have more value. Instead of adding features to gold what do they do?
Take features away from silver users. I now have to wait a week after demo's come out to download them. Now i usually just forget about them by the time I'm actually able to download them. Way to add value to gold. And i love the MSoft sheeple who just let it go and hand down stupid comments like "Get over, stop being cheap and pay for gold!" Maybe i don't need gold. This is lame.

Hey... at least you're not suing Microsoft because XBox live was down for a couple of days.

I say that if you want to watch media on your 360, just network it to your pc and get the media off of itunes or from a store or something. I'm sure that you guys in europe have a lot more movies in stores than you do on xbl.
Also: Microsoft screwing people out of money for xbl gold accounts = bollocks.

We did that my last year of highschool as well. At any given time there was tons of students scattered through out the school in different classes playing. It was wonderful.

We use Ut2k4 on Gentoo LiveCD's. It's ownage. Oh, and UT99 over the wireless. Maniacal clicking in the middle of class raises suspicions, though.
Oh, and Deathmatch Classic is tons of fun too.

We had a science teacher who had a quake server set up for the science department's computer room.
His entire class, while failing their exam, got very good at quake.
(Which is possibly why he got promoted out of the way and is now head of science somewhere in the country. You know who you are, Mr. C. ;) )
