I'm so tired of this chain reaction of **** my computer is taking me through. Now it's running fine, and haven't been seeing any problems except now...

When I click send/receive, it takes like 10 seconds per email address to check for mail. Before it was instantaneous. Is it cox? Or is it my outlook?

I'd run a virus scan, adware/spyware scan, defragment, etc... and if it still messes up you may need to reformat.

I've found that with Outlook express is greatly dragged by antivirus software. I run Bitdefender and it takes 5X longer for Outlook to function. It scans each message as in comes through. Try disabling (assuming you have one in the background) the software and seeing if that speeds it up. If so, maybe turn your spam filter off if you'd rather have celerity over selectivity.

I tried uninstalling through windows component wizard but that thing is a POS!!!

It has a mind of its own and will install or uninstall what it pleases without telling you until it's already in the process. You then go back in to reinstall what was just accidentally deleted and it will install or uninstall whatever you did before hand.

I don't think you can uninstall it, as far as I know you can only revert to outlook. I could be wrong though (and usually am).

I don't run any AVs since I do very little downloading and no porn.

well, that's not the only route a virus can travel, they are often transmitted through email. Infact, nearly every virus my Dad's comp was infected with was an email virus. Some of them get into your address book and send emails to your contacts, though I haven't seen one like this in a long time. How full is your deleted box, have you emptied it recently?

The only other thing that comes to mind is try deleting the account and setting it back up using the instructions step by step from your provider, maybe that would fix it. Might want to back it up first if there are meassages in there you want to keep.

I never liked Outlook Express. Thunderbird all the way. Fast, easy, nice-looking, tons of extensions...

Thanks for reminding me. I just installed Thunderbird because I always hear about it... I just never used it because I don't like change but it's really not much different than outlook.

Nope, it's not too different, but Firefox isn't much different than IE is it? :D

I think I'm going to look for some new themes. The old one is boring me.

Everytime I use outlook(express) my system gets a virus. I have stopped using it all together and now use webmail at work and Eudora at home.

I have been using Eudora since about '94.
