Wow.

I was JUST thinking about posting the same thing today! :p

Smash Lab is absolutely horrible. I am very surprised that it is being aired on the Discovery Channel. I've actually emailed Discovery about it, telling them to at least google "Smash Lab Sucks".

http://smashlab.blogspot.com/2007/12/smash-lab-sucks.html

The comments are kind of funny in that blog. They all, including me, found it by googling "Smash Lab Sucks".

Yeah, to me it seems like a bunch of college preps got together and said, "Dude, lets run cars into stuff. Then we can laugh and give no explanations."

They act like geniuses, and talk like geniuses, but have no common sense. Like that arrestor bed, lets drive the cab right over it, but hit the brakes on the bus to make it look like it works even though it doesn't; Brilliant one, Issac Newton!

You just cant learn anything from this show. Its garbage and I wont be watching it again. So what if they demolish junk. Who cant? Besides, my favorite part of mythbusters was not smashing stuff. Its how they give explanations and actually complete a task.

Sorry, but im p=issed after wasting an hour watching that junk hoping for something good to happen.

They even fail at demolishing stuff if you ask me. Thats practically the whole basis of the show is to demolish stuff. I've seen better material on youtube, and that is the truth sadly.

Well, I wont say anymore. That article I posted sums my feelings up very perfectly.

...I still don't see how you can fail at making things go crash, bang and boom though. Even I have done more exciting things as a kid...

...also I find myself constantly saying things to myself like "why are they doing that?" "Why aren't they doing this?" "etc etc". I'm a better "scientist" than they are! I'M ONLY 20 YEARS OLD WITH NO REAL LIFE EXPERIENCE! lulz!

Boo Discovery Channel, Boo! ...yay Discovery Channel for everything else, yay!

Yep, Smash Lab really, really sucks. It's just an excuse to use dumb people to do dumb things, and use dumb ideas to keep things from breaking.

Can't wait for tomorrow night's Mythbusters. Airplane on a treadmill. (Let's not start that debate here though. Please).

I like the idea of it. Because its a different premise than Mythbusters. Its taking real things, not speculation. But the people dont really have any personality. And then just spout facts, they didnt really teach anything. I'll probably watch it again. I DVR the show and watch it when nothing else is on. Because that is better than watching people lose weight or get fired from their stupid jobs.

And get paid for it, they sound like geniuses to me.

Even the few mythbusters shows that I have seen haven't been impressive, in terms of accuracy.
In particular, I am thinking of the episode where they blow a safe up with water, and the episode where they catch an arrow in midair.

They fill a safe up with water, and it starts leaking. So what do they do? They try patching the holes on the outside of the safe. Anyone that has ever worked with boats, fishtanks, dams, etc, would know that you have to patch the holes on the upstream side, not the downstream side

And the arrow catching. They shot the arrow from about 10 ft away, and couldn't catch it based on human reactions. So they concluded that it was impossible. They didn't even think about doing something like, oh, I don't know, maybe backing up?

Maybe its just me, but I don't place a whole lot of value in any "scientific" tv show, especially if the "scientists" aren't actual scientists.

"I am thinking of the episode where they blow a safe up with water"

Um they were trying to re-create a scene from a movie where they did that ot get into the safe, I'm assuming they were patching the holes up on the outside b/c if it was a thief in real life that'd be their only option to make the water stay in....I could be wrong however and they just weren't thinking.

If they could patch the leaks from the inside, there'd be no reason to blow up the safe, now would there? You'd already have access to it's contents...

You know what the show's for? Entertainment. If you want deadly accurate scientific explainations for everything, go take a physics class or something.

That being said, I've seen people catch arrows, but more importantly, you should have paid more attention because I'm positive that when they reached their verdict, they did say that it would be impossible FROM TEN FEET.

Also keep in mind the accuracy issues -- Arrows don't fly straight and I'm sure it'd be a huge pain in the ass to try and calibrate a rig that's say, 30ft long.

Mythbusters is a thousand times better then smash lab. SL is just a bunch of jackazzes blowing stuff up for the heck of it. smash lab has 3 guys, and a chick...seems familiar. Mythbusters is a lot more scientific and the personality's on the show are pretty funny. Plus Kari Byron is smokin hot.

I would have to agree with the general consensus that Smash Labs sucks. I'm kind of glad it sucks though, because if it were good it would probably slowly replace Mythbusters. Either way Mythbusters is probably going to end too. Jamie and Adam had a very successful business before all of this and probably would like to get back to it sometime. Thats just my assumption though. And they are on like their 7,000th season. I will be sad to see them leave though.

Anyways, did anyone see the second episode of Smash Labs? Probably not because you got enough of it with the first 10 minutes of the first one. Me too... but I was bored so I ended up watching the second one. The premise was hurricane proof a mobile home with kevlar. Long story, short they ended up covering the whole mobile home in the stuff. Probably the stupidest idea ever. I don't know exactly how much that stuff costs but I know its expensive. It certainly isn't an economical thing to do for someone who lives in a mobile home.

They may have had a successful business, but I guarantee they're making more money now than they ever were before. That's the benefit of being one of Discovery's most watched shows.

Yea I don't like it either. . The experiments i've seen were very poor.
For instance the Hurricane building test with 1ply wood and tennis balls; Give me a break.
The Carbon Fiber wrap used on that Mobile Home cost more than the mobile home itself.

Best thing to do is change the channel. .maybee it will disappear.

Okay, well I feel like I have to give credit where credit is due.

The Anti-Earthquake episode was actually fairly enjoyable and I only found myself rolling my eyes during the first half of the episode.

Now that said, they did copy an already in use system that was built for skyscrapers, but they made one that was for a house instead. The results ended very well, but again, they did copy something that already exists. So...

Smash Lab still sucks, but congrats on creating an episode that wasn't painful to watch and was actually fairly educational. :)

Now bring me another heaping serving of Mythbusters! Thats where the money is at afterall. Mmmm, goes down smooth. ^_^
