So Monday night at Midnight, Dell closed all 140 Dell Direct Stores in the USA. Which really sucks cuz there goes my money. Everything I have bought in the past few months were all based on my pay there. ($10 per hour + commission) (FYI: its illegal for me to tell you but I don't care)

All that happened was that the mall gave us a letter saying "HEY YOUR GETTING KICKED OUT!!" (you get my jist)

All of these "analysts'" say "its a good move for Dell. Well what about the roughly 1000 people, thats ONE THOUSAND people, now have no jobs. All Dell is doing is putting in a good word for us at like Best Buy and Staples.

WHAT KIND OF CRAP IS THIS????

I work my arse off for a company and they don't even give me the common curtsy to say "Hey, your going to be let go soon!"

But the thing that kills me the most.... is that THE FRIGGEN MALL KNEW FOR 3 WHOLE MONTHS!!! And they never said a word to us....

So I guess I'll just work on my case this weekend... and hopefully find a job next weekend.

Man am I p***ed

Dude, really sorry to hear that. That was weak of them not to give you guys notice, I mean jeez, how are folks supposed to prepare getting dropped like that? Business can be ugly for sure, what's good for the company can often be bad for the workers. Wish you good luck and hopefully you'll land on something better. You aren't alone though, I'm about to lose my job too.

BTW-Why would it be illegal to discuss you wages? Do they have some sort of silence contract to protect them from hagglers know that prices can be reduced?

Dude.. thats a raw deal. I know how you feel. Its like they say .. when one door closes, another one opens. Hopefully you will find something soon, and who knows, it may be way better then before!

Hang in there!!

Sorry to hear about that man. I've been there a few times, it's never easy. Think about why they didn't tell you though.. if you had known a month ago, would you have worked as hard to sell systems? Would you have thrown in freebies that you normally would have? Would you have tried to raid the stock room? Maybe you would have performed your job as usual.. however, there are some that wouldn't have and would have done everything they could (without getting caught) to somehow screw Dell over. I'm researching job postings. My company covers your area.

Jon - I'm with ya on Dubai. I'll establish perimeter security and LP/OP's (listening and observation posts) throughout the city. Synchronize watches on my mark.. 3.. 2.. 1.. Mark!

That is ridiculous. A mall kiosk seems to me a very good sales strategy. Although I guess they will be going through major retailers like Walmart now. This is very disappointing, we purchased my parents last computer through the Dell kiosk at our local mall.

On a side note I'd be interested in finding out what is being done with the now closed kiosks, I'm pretty sure most were custom for Dell.

I hope you find a new job because that is totally unfair.

Good luck with the job search. It sucks getting canned for no reason. Or more correctly for someone else's screwup or misstep. I have been laid off so many times, I can almost smell it coming. I just sucks when you have no control over it.

BTW: in the US they cannot keep you from disclosing your wages. The most they can do is put in your employment contract that sharing your salary information with co-worker's can result in termination. Guess it's too late for that. Also the employment laws only force a company to pre-announce a layoff/termination if they are cutting 10% or more of the workforce. Hell, one company I got laid off from didn't tell anyone they were getting the axe. We just showed up for work one day and our badges didn't work. We had to be escorted one by one to our desks to clear them out.

Where are you located at?

Nice! I love it, people on the boards looking out for their fellow modders!

+rep just for looking!

If anyone is in the Bay area (close to Sunnyvale), I will also have a JR. position opening up within the next 3 months. Position involves assembling SuperMicro servers, custom workstations and server racks. Plus training on SUN and SGI equipment and the different OS's.

Fuganater,

It may not seem like it now, but in 6 months at the most, this will seem like the best thing that has ever happened to you. Keep you chin up and a positive attitude and something even better than Dell will head your way.

That's the same thing that Gateway did. Brick & Mortar locations can really kill a company

I beg to differ. Brick and Mortar locations without proper planning and management with experience in B&M operations is what can kill a company, as can opening an e-commerce site without proper planning, management, etc.

Regardless, I had a Gateway location near me that closed. They have to pay you whether there are customers or not. There's also rent, electricity and taxes.

Thanks all for the support and suggestions. I'll find something sooner or later... The job I'm applying for is going to be my career job. But it won't start till probably October so I need something to get me to there.

@Sgmt would you like me to send you my resume?

Hehe, I agree! I kept expecting to see "Mr. Clean" (http://dolphin.upenn.edu/~ultimate/void/Rosterpictures/mrclean.jpg) in there...

Dell just closed a call centre in Edmonton Alberta, laying off 800 employees with no notice. This is AFTER they signed a contract with the city to GUARANTEE 20 years of work.

Anyone have any suggestions for a new supplier for me? I'll no longer be purchasing Dell workstations/laptops/servers/equipment, due to their recent actions.

Besides Apple who has stores or physical locations anymore? Everyone sells through larger retailers such as Circuit City, Best Buy, Sears, Walmart, etc. Kinda disappointing, I liked the Dell booths they were conveniently placed. SgtM and Airbozo, mad props for trying to help out. If I was looking for a co-op I'd be all for that position Airbozo, unfortunately it's to early for me to get a co-op.

Dell probably got a sweet deal, tax free for leasing some property. They should charge them back taxes and fines...

We are unfortunately tied to Dell due to FDA restrictions on one of our customer. We sell SuperMicro's to everyone else.

I just wish that big companies would learn that loyal employee's are not just found wandering the streets. You have to treat them with respect to have them respect you.

Does dubai even have an army? We could "acquire" their assets in a silent coup, the progress would keep going on, and we could skim some money (see: embezzle) with our newly acquired positions of power. Take it over without anybody but the high levels of the government (who we would brainwash and release into the ukraine.)

I call first secretary of money-touching and buying computer parts!
